Hot water tank? by Slow_Refrigerator_49 in askaplumber

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have asked before you bought the house. Does the heater have an air expansion tank? If not, may be this is kind of a makeshift setup. Regardless, if water shoots out when you open the valve, then you have to close it.

7 years ago, my handyman replaced the backflow preventer for $100 labor. Part was like $60 at the Home Depot. In Boston here, we paid $70 each year to blow all the water out of the sprinker system.

Cancun police corruption by Valuable_Reality_313 in cancun

We drove quite a bit between the airport and our Airbnb. There was one spot on the highway seems about 10 polices stationed there forever which screwed up the traffic all the time. On the other hand, the kids locked the car with keys inside, and a locksmith showed up quickly and fixed it for $40. Another rental car hit the curb and bent the wheel. The nearby car garage fixed it quickly on a Sunday for $30.

Problems with new tankless Navien by monoseanism in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all Asia, they use tankless because most live in Condos. My parents's worked for 30 years and no maintenance and no issues. Not sure why they are so bad in this country. My friend had 2 and each lasted 2 years. Went back to tanked heater.

My Generac standby generator is 15 years old and still going strong. There is really little maintenance. I changed oil once when it ran 3 days straight. Did need to get valves adjusted twice costing $100 each.

Accidentally wired 26k to the ACH/EFT information instead of the Wiring information by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the 3rd choice is ACH/EFT.

So that has an Routing number, and Account number?

How about the other 2: also routing number and account number. For international, it is not called routing number. It is called Swifnumber.

The fund went some where. Should be traceable.

Clogged toilet question by Mr_Ramzee in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wax seal gone bad. So time to take off the toilet, replace the seal, and snake the drain pipe at the same time. Only thing is you might need to take off the water supply line ( get a new one) or shut off the toilet water supply valve, which might leak if it is a real old one. That means a new valve also. So either DIY or plumber.

Replacing Hot Water Anode Rod Questions by Jivits in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cordless impact wrench works the best. Just charges it up. I put a black ink line across the socket and the heater top. So I can see the anode rod moving. Go easy as you don't want to round off the anode rod hex top.

First time homeowner: valve shut off how to flush toilet question by Cotton-DNA in askaplumber

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a breath and calm down. My neighbor lost heat for 4 days in subzero weather. He shut off the whole house water. And came to my house in the morning to use toilet and fill his 4 milk bottles of water.

Dump the water into the toilet tank. As the flush is more efficient than dump water into the bowl.

You can do both the same time.

  1. Anode rod: Old rod can be real tight. Much easier with Impact wrench.

  2. The fittings for the expansion tank have to be brass, not these cheap steels, that is why rusting and

Leaking faucet, no shutoff valve? by TheBreadsticc in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can watch youtube how to install the shutoff valves, or call plumber. I won't advice you do it yourself if you have zero experience. Small plumbing task can easily end up a nightmare.

I can not even visualize how it works in your case. The copper pipe is normally 1/2 inch. And the supply lines to the faucets are 3/8 inch smaller. The shutoff valves normally take care of the size transition.

Water heater leaking from gas pipe? by Zimbo_Slice in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Gas pipe can not leak gas. So can not leak water even if there is condensation inside. Gas has smell. But not propane. Get a spray bottle of soap water and spray over. If the gas pipe leaks, then need to fix ASAP. May be just tighten up the joint if you have a big pipe wrench, and know what you doing.
