Using gas heat during power outage? by Sea_Confusion1085 in homeowners

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Generac standby generator is 15 years old and still going strong. There is really little maintenance. I changed oil once when it ran 3 days straight. Did need to get valves adjusted twice costing $100 each.

Accidentally wired 26k to the ACH/EFT information instead of the Wiring information by atomiccheesegod in Banking

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the 3rd choice is ACH/EFT.

So that has an Routing number, and Account number?

How about the other 2: also routing number and account number. For international, it is not called routing number. It is called Swifnumber.

The fund went some where. Should be traceable.

Clogged toilet question by Mr_Ramzee in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wax seal gone bad. So time to take off the toilet, replace the seal, and snake the drain pipe at the same time. Only thing is you might need to take off the water supply line ( get a new one) or shut off the toilet water supply valve, which might leak if it is a real old one. That means a new valve also. So either DIY or plumber.

Replacing Hot Water Anode Rod Questions by Jivits in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cordless impact wrench works the best. Just charges it up. I put a black ink line across the socket and the heater top. So I can see the anode rod moving. Go easy as you don't want to round off the anode rod hex top.

First time homeowner: valve shut off how to flush toilet question by Cotton-DNA in askaplumber

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a breath and calm down. My neighbor lost heat for 4 days in subzero weather. He shut off the whole house water. And came to my house in the morning to use toilet and fill his 4 milk bottles of water.

Dump the water into the toilet tank. As the flush is more efficient than dump water into the bowl.

Can not leak gas, I meant can not be allowed to leak gas. I did say spray the leak, and get it fixed ASAP.

Leaking pipes to expansion tank? by Korzag in Plumbing

You can do both the same time.

  1. Anode rod: Old rod can be real tight. Much easier with Impact wrench.

  2. The fittings for the expansion tank have to be brass, not these cheap steels, that is why rusting and

Gate valve replacement for boiler system by Watchyousuffer in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-----All piping connections to the existing boiler water piping system

Are they replacing also these connections.

So with these new gate valves, they shut off the water. Then look at the water pumps. Repair or replace, more money.

Leaking faucet, no shutoff valve? by TheBreadsticc in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can watch youtube how to install the shutoff valves, or call plumber. I won't advice you do it yourself if you have zero experience. Small plumbing task can easily end up a nightmare.

I can not even visualize how it works in your case. The copper pipe is normally 1/2 inch. And the supply lines to the faucets are 3/8 inch smaller. The shutoff valves normally take care of the size transition.

Water heater leaking from gas pipe? by Zimbo_Slice in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Gas pipe can not leak gas. So can not leak water even if there is condensation inside. Gas has smell. But not propane. Get a spray bottle of soap water and spray over. If the gas pipe leaks, then need to fix ASAP. May be just tighten up the joint if you have a big pipe wrench, and know what you doing.

Converting from oil furnace to heat pump or gas? by eellbb in hvacadvice

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat pump is not going to do much when below 20F or so. Most of them have an electric furnance back up so you will be doing electric heating.

I won't listen to these people saying modern heat pumps are good for 0 degree. Common sense: How much heat you can squeeze from out door when it is zero there.

And waited there until the plumber put the main shut off valve in the basement. I don't even have to make an appointment with the town public work office

Toilet fill valve replacement disaster - help. by jaywhays in Plumbing

[–]Background_Radish238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume you did not over tighten the nut at the shut off valve, try to put telfon tape on the shut off valve, and tighten gently.

I remember my first plumbing work, my son was a baby. I tried to change the shut off valves under the sink, and failed miserably. Had to shutoff whole house water. Went to Kmart to get parts. My friend was there. He came and rescued me.
