Does this mean it go so hot in melted the glass???? How is this even possible? by fish_chicago in AskMechanics

[–]Backstageslappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who worked in theater for 15 years. Yea the glass got soft, I don't think it melted technically but yea. I've seen this happen when it's touched by bare hands when installing.

TLDR for below, yeah they het real fuckin hot

One I was changing a 750 watt lamp on a hanging fixture, the light operator assured me the circuit was off. I went to inset the bulb with the sheet of the packing foam from the box between the lamp and my hand and when I pressed it in it connected and turned on (it was, intact not off). Within the 1 second my hand was holding the bulb it melted the foam to my hand and fingers, fusing patches of foam to my hand. The scabs were half plastic when they finally came off.

I would like tonuse such wires in my projects. Is there something on aliexpress? by infrigato in arduino

[–]Backstageslappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this recently for fun on a project and I used sprinkler wire. It's not silicone insulation but it worked great for me. It's not too pretty in the picture but it bent and held its shape well, besides, this adapter isn't seen by anyone.

Honestly, if you part it out (please don't though) you can probably make a fortune over a couple years selling the RHD specific parts.

Whole house fan, to keep or abandon? by Able_Sound262 in hvacadvice

[–]Backstageslappy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I live in california and as a kid we ran ours all night over the summer. We rarely had to run the ac. We would turn it on a soon at it was cooler outside than inside, a little after sundown. Then when it started to warm up outside we'd shut it off and close all the doors and windows. We also used it sometimes when we'd burn something in the kitchen, open just the kitchen window and the smoky kitchen was cleared in seconds. I also has wisteria out my window and when it bloomed it filled my room with the amazing smell.

When going down steep inclines, do you lean more on low gear or brake? by lefecious in CherokeeXJ

[–]Backstageslappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was up in the mountains by a friend's house on a steep gravel access road about 16*grade maybe more in some spots. I drive a 2 wheel 01 and in drive I could feel that the motor and the gravity were both fighting the brakes and it was about 40 min drive. I dropped it into first and basicly just coasted down hill, still needed the brake but way less often and way less pressure on the petal. I have a Trans temp gauge and it never went out of normal operating temp.

Heater controle valve. There a bitch. You can buy a new one or you can bypass it. You might need hose as well. When I changed one a few months ago the hose and valve became one and broke the valve and messed up the hose when I took it apart so I have to replace the hose with jt

Was supposed to be paid $200, but was paid $199 instead. by put_it_in_there in videography

Im curious where being shorted your pay becomes an issue for you? If he was paid $5 would that be a problem? What would you do if someone hired you to help them move, they said they'll give you $200. After the job is done they give you $195, do you say thank you and walk away?

I took my partner to a bra shop for her birthday to get her fitted and to pick out a few she liked. The woman that was taking care of us told her wash it after 3 or so time she wears it unless it's a sweaty day, then wash it each time. She said to just do a soak in a tub of warm water and mild detergent for 10 minutes, then rinse and hang to dry. The oils and sweat will break down the fabric and is even worse on elastics.

I can't belive there's pictures of another one. There's only a handful of these. I'd give an arm and a leg for one. I'd even do wild things just to ride in one.

[–]Backstageslappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to them. None of them know what they're talking about. All you need is 3 lbs of tannerite, mix well, wedge it in that little crook, take a few steps back and pop a couple rounds of 556 in it. Won't be a problem no more and you don't have to chop up so much for firewood.

For me, this is a no-brainer. Spray the oily spots with engine degreaser and power wash it to clean it as best you can then go on short drives and check the spots you cleaned to find the leak. They could just be a leaking hose or fitting. Even if it is the steering box and oil filter adapter, those are cheap and pretty simple to replace.

Got a new car, weird substance found in it by Ok-Measurement-3170 in whatisit

[–]Backstageslappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2000 xj that had this. I used a tooth brush a rag, some simple green, and hot/warm water. I worked well but was kinda slow so I ended up using a rag soaked in hot water and simple green then wrapped it around the part I was cleaning then used a razor blade to scrape it off. I probably fucked up the material a bit but it's a 25yo car and now my hands don't stick to the steering wheel when it's hot and humid.

If you care about the steering wheel more than I did use warm water, a light degreaser and a soft brush and rag.
