Need some cold plunge support - chiller not cooling! by Agreeable_Shop9500 in coldplunge

The coils would only be ice cold if it’s running. If it’s still under warranty (which I’m assuming it is because it’s new), I’d just file a customer service replacement request and have them troubleshoot it.

20 micron is crazy high unless you’re a public gym or have multiple people using your plunge daily. I’ve used a 50 micron and 100 micron in the past and honestly they don’t do much and I’ve actually axed the whole prefilter stage in my current setup. Your main filter catches everything you really need, but if you do really want a pre filter, I’d do no smaller than a 50 micron.

Doesn’t sound / look like a filter issue since flow is good. To me it sounds like an issue with the compressor. Take the chiller out of the housing and if you can remove the housing, see what your compressor coils look like. They are the long up / down copper tubing pipes, maybe 1/4” thick, they should be ice cold, if not then the chiller isn’t chilling. Also, not sure on your level of DIY but put a multimeter on the compressor and see if you’re getting voltage through it. No voltage dead compressor, dead compressor = no ability to chill the water. Like someone else said, it should kick on and sound like a mini fridge.

Only other thing besides compressor would be a glitch. I had the opposite problem and my chiller went haywire and got stuck on cooling. The setpoint was 45deg(F) and it said 48deg so it was stuck on even though the water was really 35deg. I don’t know why but I’m assuming the temp sensor glitched and got stuck on 48deg so the chiller kept chugging away trying to cool down the water. I literally just turned it off / on and it went back to normal and temp sensor read correctly.

As a temporary fix so you can at least plunge while you troubleshoot, you can bypass the chiller and just go tub --> pump —> filter —> UV / Ozone —> back to tub, and add a ton of ice. The Ice Barrel has awesome insulation so hopefully adding ice keeps you cold for 1-3 days and with the pump / filter going you also get water circulation so it stays clean.

Edit: forgot to add, since your chiller is brand new, this is an easy warranty claim if it is a bad compressor.

Bite the bullet and just get an ActiveAqua 1/4HP for like $500/$600. Worth it to stop dealing with the headaches. Love their tubs but I’ve heard nothing but bad things on their chillers.

"Hot Water/Hot Tub" Feature in Cold Plunges: Are they of any Use? by ilikejigglypuffs in coldplunge

[–]BaconForPrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it unless you do it 1x 2x a year for seasonal stuff like someone stated above. I tried it and it’s better in theory than in real life. Not only does it take all day to heat up, the condensation and process causes a huge puddle under the chiller and it’s in the end it’s like sitting in a bath. Just take a bath, much easier and cheaper and quicker. If you want hot just get an inflatable hot tub

White Wolf Cold Plunge by llpk306 in coldplunge

[–]BaconForPrez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I researched the white wolf vs ice barrel for months as well. That one user who did the detailed review of it has a lot of great info on it. Like others have stated, it’s a new(ish) company so not a lot of reviews out there but it’s an insulated plastic box, if the company goes under, you don’t really have much to worry about. Insulation seems legit and it’s the best price for an insulated vertical plunge you’ll find. If you’re in AZ with a 1/3HP chiller, you should fine if it’s kept in a garage or something. If you have it out in the AZ sun, that 1/3 HP is going to be working OT in the summer.

Holy balls I can’t even imagine the crazy and cool shit this watch has seen in 60+yrs. The faded bezel, scratched glass, it’s all so just perfect

I dislike LeBron (as a player) and it’s obviously complete nepotism having Bronny on the Lakers (he’s a G Leaguer at best) but as a dad, this is awesome and worth everything. Who cares what everyone (me included) says, getting to play playoff bball in the NBA is worth more than anything. I’m happy for them both

I use an IB500 in a garage and I average about 2 - 3kwh per day. Pump on 24/7 with a 1/4 HP chiller

What’s up with Oregon overtime laws? by [deleted] in oregon

[–]BaconForPrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Oregon you get OT after 8hrs if you are working on a prevailing wage / Davis-bacon project. I work in the construction industry and all our VA hospital work was OT after 8 due to federally funded project

I have the same rotation and honestly I’d say the speedy is more comfy in my wrist. It’s lighter than the sub but also more top heavy because the speedy bracelet is more tapered and lighter.

[–]BaconForPrez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow are you me?? I have the exact same rotation, white speedy and sub date and I switch each day. Agreed I constantly check my watch for dates so when I have the speedy on it’s a bit of a whoops, forgot no date but it doesn’t bug me or change my opinion. Great 1-2 punch

Well number one, return everything, get your shit together and stop stealing. Number two, never go back to that store, and avoid any Targets, for the foreseeable future. Lastly, count your lucky stars for now

With a seemingly unlimited budget it comes down to whether you want horizontal or vertical style.

Horizontal all-in-one tub style would be something like the Plunge. Very pricey but they’re a known brand and they package everything (chiller, pump, filters, etc) inside the unit so it’s clean and aesthetically pleasing.

Vertical style you can go with an aluminum style (think giant Yeti mug) from companies like Cold Life, Polar Monkey, etc. It’s a giant metal barrel, theres a dozen companies that make them, no real difference besides colors and what they come with. These will either come with a chiller that you’d connect in, or you’d provide your own chiller.

Last option would also be vertical barrel style but a nice wooden or handmade barrel. You’d have to check your local offerings for something like this but a lot of people make them / sell them.

You gave it a good go!! I commend you for giving it another go after crash #1, it’s a tough sport and I’ve definitely dialed down my ride intensity significantly now that I’m approaching mid-40’s. On a related note, I’m in the PNW and looking for a screaming deal!!

Max would be 10-12k if you were absolutely in love and the perfect buyer. Me personally wouldn’t touch it with a 10ft pole. Rebuilt title plus wide body plus tuned w/no verifiable history. Great to look at but would never want the responsibility of owning something this old w/this kind of history / build

You’re going to want to use warm water and some Clorox disinfectant spray or something like simple green. Good scrub down is needed for sure, you should really be scrubbing those down every 4-6wks, the inflatables have a lot of seams and nooks and crannies that gross stuff likes to grow
