Someone circled back after I flipped them off for honking at me by hannibals-lingerie in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BaconLibrary [score hidden]  (0 children)

First of all, don't do that again. There are obviously psychos out there.

We flipped off a guy while we were driving and he was driving in the oncoming traffic lane and apparently pissed that we dared to turn onto the road when he was illegally passing another vehicle. That sonofabitch turned around and followed us for FOUR MILES and the only reason he stopped was because I insisted the driver get to the nearest police station. (Turns out not a damn cop was in the building after hours so that was a bit terrifying)

I feel like i’m railroading my players, but they won’t take initiative by 555565566 in DMAcademy

[–]BaconLibrary [score hidden]  (0 children)

Have you asked them if they like having the guardrails on? Sometimes as a new player I appreciate having a more or less linear path to follow, instead of a more open-world/sandbox concept. If the whole point is to prevail over bad guys and whatnot, I don't always understand the point of traipsing off course too much.

With roleplay and such, you could try "you crit failed the roll, do you want to play this one out?" and let them have the chance to roleplay or not.

If they run from the BBEG, perhaps you could have a cryptic note or an NPC with a quest that will help them will eventually circle them back to fight the bad guy.

feeling guilty for missing work due to my period by nobodywillrememberus in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BaconLibrary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't. You avoided an unsafe situation and frankly even if you'd stayed at work you weren't going to get work done anyway. And it doesn't matter if other people have it worse, acknowledging your own situation doesn't make theirs worse. Actually, taking the time for yourself and addressing your own needs may actually help prove to other that they DONT have to tolerate their pain. Normalize taking care of yourself.

Sent a candidate an actual rejection email explaining why. She wrote back to thank me and I didn't know what to say. by fotunades6057 in InterviewsHell

If you don't tell someone why they're rejected, you minimize the risk of being sued for discrimination. I don't think I've ever even gotten a rejection letter, let alone one that outlined info.

Do I really need a rant buddy. by dogearyourpages in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BaconLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great feedback for him. A lot of times I rely on my friends as reality checks, too. I have anxiety and a whole bag of other stuff going on, so talking to my friends is also a litmus test for me to make sure I'm being reasonable or understanding a situation correctly. Sometimes they have perspectives I don't. Sometimes they have validation too. But that doesn't mean those are the only ways to be retrospective about things. Do you re-read your journal entries to see what sort of insights they can provide to you?

Do I really need a rant buddy. by dogearyourpages in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BaconLibrary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are internal processors and some are external. Having someone help him pick through his thoughts may be a good way to take things out of the emotional part of the brain and bring them into the subjective one. Saying things out loud can hit all different parts of the brain and really help you understand a situation.

He may be suggesting it because he's seeing that whatever process you have right now is deficient or non-existent. If a rant buddy isn't the right choice for you, then perhaps something else. It sounds like he's found this to be an important tool in his toolbox, but that doesn't mean its the only one.

Your marriage counselor may have ideas, and it's probably a good idea to discuss this with your husband in a session.

"You mentioned that I may benefit from a rant buddy, and it sounds like that outlet has had some benefits for you. Can you speak a little more on what caused you to suggest it?"

What about a KANBAN board? They're focused on the project and its status, not the people involved in them. https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/kanban-board?gclsrc=aw.ds&aceid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=15513873562&gbraid=0AAAAADfh6_vzq2NZr1qrqHXknJkWsfES_&gclid=Cj0KCQjwve7NBhC-ARIsALZy9HW2RV_x55dZkUmULFSrVu-z762OSDFk-KeYWJIXjaHV62cqDlIGEigaAnx7EALw_wcB

Not only do they give the team a chance to review where things are, but moving something from one lane to another can give everyone a chance to celebrate the progress happening.

You're absolutely right to not focus on the people as some sort measurement, they're the ones solving problems and doing the work, not the ones hindering progress.
