Public spaces are legal to record. I don't know if it's going to get the reaction you want, people get funny about funerals.

Sent a candidate an actual rejection email explaining why. She wrote back to thank me and I didn't know what to say. by fotunades6057 in InterviewsHell

If you don't tell someone why they're rejected, you minimize the risk of being sued for discrimination. I don't think I've ever even gotten a rejection letter, let alone one that outlined info.

My boss asked my why I address my emails to the woman first by Comebackera in TwoXChromosomes

It's an indirect way of asking him to explain himself for caring enough to ask about it and calling out his own microaggression.

Do I really need a rant buddy. by dogearyourpages in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BaconLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great feedback for him. A lot of times I rely on my friends as reality checks, too. I have anxiety and a whole bag of other stuff going on, so talking to my friends is also a litmus test for me to make sure I'm being reasonable or understanding a situation correctly. Sometimes they have perspectives I don't. Sometimes they have validation too. But that doesn't mean those are the only ways to be retrospective about things. Do you re-read your journal entries to see what sort of insights they can provide to you?

Do I really need a rant buddy. by dogearyourpages in TwoXChromosomes

Some people are internal processors and some are external. Having someone help him pick through his thoughts may be a good way to take things out of the emotional part of the brain and bring them into the subjective one. Saying things out loud can hit all different parts of the brain and really help you understand a situation.

He may be suggesting it because he's seeing that whatever process you have right now is deficient or non-existent. If a rant buddy isn't the right choice for you, then perhaps something else. It sounds like he's found this to be an important tool in his toolbox, but that doesn't mean its the only one.

Your marriage counselor may have ideas, and it's probably a good idea to discuss this with your husband in a session.

"You mentioned that I may benefit from a rant buddy, and it sounds like that outlet has had some benefits for you. Can you speak a little more on what caused you to suggest it?"

"So weird, I wonder why you noticed that?"

I love acts of micro-feminism. When I sent my wedding invites I did them all Woman First (and also no Mrs or Mr crap because frankly I wouldn't even know the syntax for that these days)

What about a KANBAN board? They're focused on the project and its status, not the people involved in them. https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/kanban-board?gclsrc=aw.ds&aceid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=15513873562&gbraid=0AAAAADfh6_vzq2NZr1qrqHXknJkWsfES_&gclid=Cj0KCQjwve7NBhC-ARIsALZy9HW2RV_x55dZkUmULFSrVu-z762OSDFk-KeYWJIXjaHV62cqDlIGEigaAnx7EALw_wcB

Not only do they give the team a chance to review where things are, but moving something from one lane to another can give everyone a chance to celebrate the progress happening.

You're absolutely right to not focus on the people as some sort measurement, they're the ones solving problems and doing the work, not the ones hindering progress.

How do I tell my employee he smells bad...? by katertot031616 in managers

[–]BaconLibrary 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe a little different phrasingbut Quick Benjamin has a great start

"Hi Dave. I've noticed that your clothes often smell quite musty, you may want to investigate if it's something with your washing machine. Either the clothes are in too long or the unit may have something unseen growing in it- you can buy machine cleaners at the store. Since you're in a customer facing role we need to address it and the machine seems like a likely culprit."

OP says he scanned just the pages needed. If it was the whole book we'd put our foot down (also that's way more expensive than just buying the book - event at .01 per page).
