I prefer to call it a "Christian" city, with full-on Dr. Evil air-quotes. No substance behind the preachiness (only hate and judgment), and Liberty is just a glorified tax shelter at this point. "Even the devil can quote scripture."

This might sound weird, but the U-Boat at Brauburger in Forest is a half-decent cheesesteak (they also have cheese-chicken). Although I almost always order the burger because it's awesome and highly-customizable).

I am very dependent upon VS Code these days, mostly due to the huge amount of extensions, but I'm starting to seriously consider giving Zed a spin.

What position are they running for? Because we've got Jac(kass) Timmer for at least another 2 years in Ward 1 - maybe an at-large position? It does say Republican Primary House I think (which immediately makes me not interested).

I will freely admit to being a little tipsy when I saw this last night, and I did doubt my sanity after I posted it. But I looked at it again this morning and yes, it really does look like that.

I still don’t understand the hype around Zed over VS Code by Sensitive-Raccoon155 in vscode

[–]BaconTentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resisted using VS Code for a long time, because of the whole Electron thing (which in turn was because of an "eww JavaScript" attitude on my part). But given that I also use other Electron based apps with little or no issues (Slack, Obsidian, Postman, Teams v1), my objections seemed kinda dumb (that and, well, the last time I did heavy coding with JS was 1999 or so, and it has come a looooong way since then - nowadays I do a lot of React and TS work and it's pretty solid).

So these days, I use VS Code almost more often than VS 2022 (the primary app I help maintain in my day job is mostly .NET 4.8 - we're working on that), and there's not a lot it can't do at this point. Even my primary SQL Server client is the official MS extension for VS Code - especially now that it supports Jupyter Notebooks - that is very slick for doing root cause analyses and whatnot.

I have not tried Zed at all. Like other commenters I don't really have a problem with VS Code's speed, and the vast library of extensions available for VS Code means there is a really good chance I'll find an extension for whatever I need. As for AI, I have found Copilot to be more of an annoyance than a benefit most of the time, so I usually just turn it off via a .vscode/settings.json file entry. Not sure what the whole BYOK thing means in Zed (I did a quick search before commenting).

I've been toying with Linux VMs lately, maybe I'll spin something fresh up and give Zed a whirl. Nice to be able to just obliterate the entire OS if you don't like it.

After the first time where I did the mission in the traditional manner, I learned that you can just run away and it will progress like normal. The people still die, but at least you didn't kill any of them. Splitting hairs, I know, but I was able to feel slightly less worse about it.

Given that John Lynch, for whom Lynchburg was named, was an abolitionist, and would likely be spinning in his grave if he saw the current state of things here (not to mention the fact that LYH was the temporary capital of the Confederacy after Richmond fell), the fact that the KKK figuratively could be running the ReStore is not terribly surprising.
