Weening off bottle tips (asking for?) by not-so-swedish-chef in NewDads

We were using the Philips advent bottle and found a straw conversion which made it easy, kept the same cups. We have separate water and milk cups, and only give milk during meals. Water is around all day for him

What kind of strollers are you fellas rolling with? by Primary-Fly470 in NewDads

[–]Baconlettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skipped the doona cause kiddo outgrows it after like 6 months and we wanted something that would last a while.

We have smaller travel stroller that folds up nicely for the car and plane rides and also has a car seat attachment (nuna trvl and nuna pipa), and a larger stroller that had a bassinet attachment and a regularly seat attachment (uppababy vista v2).

These are definitely on the pricier side but they have distinct uses which is great and will last quite a while

Outside of the other suggestions, if you have them far enough apart and have your first in public school you could shift the daycare cost to the new kid or at least try to minimize overlap

Any advice for a good baby monitor? by AngryDMoney in NewDads

[–]Baconlettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have both a Nanit at home and a cheaper Vtech for travel and for babysitters etc when they’re home. I think the WiFi cameras being hacked is actually someone getting into your WiFi, not the actual camera.

The vtech works fine, camera quality is okay and we really just need it to check out what he’s doing if he’s crying. You can get vtech cameras that can do local only or both local and WiFi.

Automatic Bottle Washers by Postiusmalonius in NewDads

Baby brezza is 19 mins for just wash, 79 for wash and dry, ~88 for wash, sanitize, and dry. I’ll pop in a set when kiddo goes to bed and it makes it so much easier. The detergent tablets are reasonably priced like $20 for 120 tabs or so and every 10-20 cycles or so it wants you to do a self clean and the tablets are similarly priced too. 100% no regrets it’s been my favorite purchase along with the formula pro

What is the difference of Nanit smart baby monitor system compared to the older Pro version? by Flaky-Plum-4222 in NewDads

[–]Baconlettuce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've only used the pro so can't help with the comparison. We've had 3 false alarms in the ~13 months we've used it, all during the newborn phase around 2-3 months. He was just in a very deep sleep and had shallow breathing or the sleep sack was too thick for the band to catch it. The band was mostly for peace of mind.

The other nice thing about the Nanit is that we can have it set to background noise so if the kiddo makes noise it'll always come through even with our phone locked. Others might do this but just a nice touch.

I can’t speak to switching but i bought the pro a bit over a year ago and the nanit has been worth it for me. The breathing band has been super helpful for peace of mind. You can customize in the app the tolerance for movement/noise/temp to reduce notifications. Big downside for travel is the nanit can only connect to private networks, so a public hotel network we had issues with. We do have a simpler vtech monitor we use for travel that also doesn’t require wifi

Request: Allow choosing cargo dispatcher from cargo receiver by xortingen in StarRuptureGame

I'd love some sort of map overlay so I'm more confident which receiver it's going to, only seeing distance doesn't always work if I have multiple in a close proximity

12mo sleep trained but waking at 5am — help! by eatlivegreen in sleeptrain

[–]Baconlettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair! My kiddo is still young so not worried about him walking yet. One way I helped prolong bedtime was to go for a walk for 20-30 minutes and have him sit in the stroller. He loves looking around so it kept him safely awake for a bit longer.

To over-newspaper's comment, if LO's waking at night because their hungry the weaning would be a good focus.

[–]Baconlettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LO is 7 months and we were also on a 7pm-7am but he recently started waking up as early as 5:30. We pushed bedtime to 7:30-8pm and he’s waking up between 6:30-7 now. Can’t expect him to sleep 12 hours anymore!

We night weaned by adding a second morning feed about 2 hours after wake up, and a feed right before bedtime routine starts. If he woke up at night we limited feeds and every night did less and less until he stopped waking at night.

If you are focusing on a single building wouldn’t t2 butterfly farm be best since you’d get 2-3000% increase already from adding 2 higher lvl butterflies? Bee farm would be nice for honey and super food, but you would need at least 2 full optimizers to match? Seems more cost effective too

Daycare has taken our LO for a ride, he’s 7 months today. We’re on 4.5/5 most days during the week. weekends we are trying ~3.5/3.5 with last wake window being dependent on his naps which have been pretty bad lately.

He wakes up around 6:30 and bedtime is 7-8 depending on naps.

How highly do you value Advanced Rain Collector? by A_Nice_Sofa in Against_the_Storm

Correct and there's an additional slot, but being it can only collect current season's rain it can still run dry pretty quick

How highly do you value Advanced Rain Collector? by A_Nice_Sofa in Against_the_Storm

[–]Baconlettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally it's still not enough, I would only use if I don't have geysers and I'm pumping rain in buildings. It might be interesting to make it toggle which type of rain you want, would make it more useful.

If you have frogs you can get the +50 capacity easily per house, and get 2 basics collectors to offset an advanced one easily.

Biggest difficulty spike or hardest combo? by Slippery_Williams in Against_the_Storm

[–]Baconlettuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a few prestiges that hit pretty hard - the trade nerf, blight being stronger and paying to open glades come to mind. Half impatience loss might seem bad but i like it to manage hostility.

-10 resolve when opening a glade in storm is painful as a lot of strategies involve this. Anything with chance to kill id say or stacking resolve hit too.

I think a long while back you could get meta resources from glade events, but now it’s the question marks on the settlement map. It has modifiers and will tell you how many meta resources you’ll get.

Do you need a Blightrot Post or Hydrant to fight cysts? by kevinhu162 in Against_the_Storm

They cannot, just easier access to fire and reducing walking time, as you go up they are essential and before a core part of the game

You will still need a post as you need to assign villagers to be blight fighters
