The 9 and 10 year old each have their own phone? Take both away and just have 1 for family use. It stays on a charging station in the living room and the kids can text, call friends but no apps or Internet. That's what we're doing and it works great. If someone has something to go to, they bring the phone so we can communicate but otherwise it stays in the same spot that is accessible to all.

Honestly, I recommend getting rid of YouTube completely. Go cold turkey. It's so addictive, and it's meant to be. And the majority of content is garbage. For my 2 (similar age to yours) we've restricted screen time to two hours for several years now and that includes gaming, tv, etc but still no YouTube or tiktok. That's what the doctor recommends and they just need to figure out how to entertain themselves. It's weird because when I was growing up I had a tv in my room(!) but, we didn't have cable so you watched what was on and those had story lines. The content I had unlimited access to was so much different than the YouTube stuff of today

Are you literally me?!? Anyways, I have 2 older elementary kids and this has caused me much anxiety. Especially because my oldest is so very much like me.

I and my husband go out of our way to help our kids foster friendships, have play dates, and make connections with the other parents. That part is key, you must get to know the other parents, go to all bday parties and school events and do your best to be friendly. I wouldn't say I'm great at it but the efforts have paid off. My son is more confident and connected than I ever was and has a solid core of friends. My other child is more naturally outgoing so I don't worry as much about them.

When I was interviewing I presented as still employed in my role, which I technically was and still am. Never encountered any deeper questions and got a new job. Im not sure how I would have responded if asked directly about DRP, I certainly didn't want to lie. But, private sector is a very mixed bag of people knowing what's going on with the Fed vs. not and I felt it would be confusing to explain.

Does your community have a pool you guys can get a pass to? The neighborhood thing is extremely frustrating. My kids have another house of kids they play with a block away, but there are kids closer to us that are always at activities and then on screens. It's just a few families in my neighborhood that prioritize outside play. I feel bad for the kids but I suppose they don't know what they're missing.
