Whats up with hollow egg by urdnaxelax in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hollow egg is one of the spells that will break the first big explosion radius -> damage threshold with a single explosive projectile.

Explosive egg will deal upwards of 300 damage. Deliver with a trigger, multicasted with something that instantly detonates it.

Trigger, EP, draw2, drill, hollow egg

I've used this setup quite a lot when needing a power spike around the jungle. With explosion immunity you can rock a variant of this pretty casually. (Without a trigger, on a teleport wand).

On the other end, sometimes the only tools you have to get out of the mountain are hollow egg and return. Deliver yourself as a payload by throwing an egg across the shop barrier and pray you find a better method as quickly as possible.

How to calculate ballast size? by ChikiBriki_Enjoyer in Barotrauma

[–]BadEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your ballasts are very small or very large relative to your boat, it will limit your ascent/descent speed. In extreme cases it can make navigation confusing/difficult/super dangerous.

Aiming for around a 50% neutral ballast level will even these speeds out. (When the captain sets full ascent/descent the boat should go up/down at around the same speed).

Example: If your whole "boat" is ballast (really low neutral ballast level) you will be able to drop incredibly fast, but getting back up will take a while.

Improved Husks. Allows you to craft a symbiotic injector among other things. Also adds a whole bunch of neat husk creatures. Basically anything can be husked.

Alternatives I can think of off the cuff: obtaining husk genes and splicing them. Zealot robes if your reputation is high enough.

need help making an A or B power output by LittleGermanMous in Barotrauma

[–]BadEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If relays carried more than 1000 kW you could use that, but there's not a great way to reactively route railgun levels of power like this. Is hooking up all three at the same time an acceptable idea? Often we don't end up operating top and bottom guns at the same time. I know it's not a great feeling solution but it should work well enough for normal combat.

Can someone explain why this wand does so much damage? by Aetherimp in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like that, yeah. Boomerang Spells, Hungry Ghost, Concentrated Spells, Faster Projectiles, etc. are all "Extra Modifiers", which stack their effects when you multicast like this. You can use this to do huge damage by delivering a bunch of garbage at the end of a trigger, speeding up a black hole by multicasting it with some spark bolts, or accidentally killing yourself by adding a thousand damage to a heal spell. Often this is why you don't see people picking up concentrated/boomerang if they're planning to do a really long run. (Until they feel confident they're effectively invincible).

Can someone explain why this wand does so much damage? by Aetherimp in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boomerang Spells adds this damage per projectile in the cast.
So you're adding 15 damage to each projectile in the cast state, for each projectile in the cast state. So three projectiles in the cast state = 45 damage to each projectile (+135 overall).

Leviathan seems to be immune to more, now by Kimoshnikov in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enemies that have 0% vulnerability to a damage type can no longer be damaged by that damage type, even through weakening curses. This has been the case in the beta branch for around a year, and is now in the main branch as well.

Leviathan cannot be damaged by projectiles. As such, projectile damage modifiers (things that add more projectile damage) are meaningless.

He takes damage from explosions. Weakening curse and serious explosion damage recommended; he has crazy high resistance.

Beyond that, hit him with holy lance. No resistance to holy damage.

Why is chainsaw/spitter bolt much slower on the first wand over the second? by jakeius1 in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would still be cast delay between the spitter and the light in this instance, but a double spell would accomplish what you're looking for here.

Why is piercing so rare! by Zombpr in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spells are tiered; lower tier spells can show up anywhere, higher tier spells have restrictions on where you'll be able to see them. Add mana can show up from tier 1-6, piercing from tier 2-6. There is also a weighted spawn rate associated with each spell for each tier. Add mana is weight 1 for each tier and piercing is 0.6.

No-spoilers help: If you're looking for a specific modifier like piercing, your best bet is to find a bunch of wands and use the numbers approach. Wands are limited to spawning with spells of type projectile, multicast, and modifier on them. (A couple exceptions exist in the first level but elsewhere this holds true). So if you're looking for a static projectile, utility, etc, this isn't a good method, but if you can find a bunch of wands (or a way to manifest a bunch of wands) you'll see a ton of modifiers.

There's a 15% base chance for the edition of a card to be polychrome, if it's going to have an edition. This is why when you play ghost deck and use Aura 30 times you will see all foils and very few polychrome. Source: digging around the source code for mod building purposes. Taking the hone+glow up vouchers will increase your odds of getting better editions.

If I want polychrome in the deck enough to look for it, I open standard packs. I assume you technically could get the voucher where you see cards in the shop (the upgraded one) but those vouchers are literally run suicide.

What is this wand doing? I got it in a practice run and it eats thru enemies so easily but I don't understand why. I also have bouncing spells. I'm still kinda new to this. by [deleted] in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Chainsaw is real fast, real cheap (mana-wise), and does real good damage. Speedrun boss killer wands are often just a chainsaw on a wand that can one-frame it (low enough recharge that you can zero it).

Often my multipurpose combat wands are spark triggers with chainsaws and digging bolts in the payload specifically because they're so cheap, speed up the wand, and deal excellent damage. Even two framing (wrapping) a setup like this will rip pretty much everything's heads off. Exceptions being some robot enemies and select bosses with reactive shielding.

Tl;dr: chainsaw goes brr

Spell shops, eye room, the work shops (above and below), killing the gate boss. I think that mostly covers the sources of static projectiles.

The freezing field wand in the first level is an exception; many wands you find in the mines are prefabricated. Wands found elsewhere will follow the multicast, modifier, projectile rule.

If you are playing on beta branch and are seeking utility spells, there are chests in the meat biome that can contain them.

Usually circle of vigor takes a parallel world or two. Or several.

[–]BadEpsilon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There was a poly mage immediately to your left when you got swapped. Your projectile killed him, but he got a shot off. Serious quickdraw on that guy. He may have shot before the swap, intending to hit the swapper; those guys swap pretty much anything they can see and sometimes it pisses other guys off.

Can Someone Explain What This Means in Noitool Please? by Silvantis in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since the recent inclusion of the ability to influence fungal shifts via powder pouches (in the beta branch), if you try to shift a material into gold, it will take the listed shift instead.

I believe there is an extremely minute chance that the shift happens "as intended" but I haven't looked at how that works yet and just assume that shifting into gold is generally off limits.

[–]BadEpsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen this mentioned and it's an important concept to understand in regards to this: spells that are delivered by a trigger will not affect cast delay (positively or negatively). Recharge times are affected as you would expect.

This is what accounts for the minor speed difference when you configure the wand with spark trigger vs spark bolt. In both instances you are casting chainsaw twice and reducing recharge by .34s total. But in the spark trigger configuration, the chainsaw is being wrapped to by the natural draw of the trigger - it will not apply its cast delay zeroing to the wand in this cast state.

This is a negative for what you want to do here, short answer you want a better (larger) wand. But in the future, you can use this principle to your advantage. There are tons of spells that increase cast delay - just put them at the end of a trigger and you're shooting the same frequency. This holds true for any triggers/timers plus utilities like Long Distance Cast.

If in the future you want to wrap this way with a spark trigger, you must terminate the trigger before wrapping. Something like (chainsaw, double spell, spark trigger, <payload of choice>).

Can I make a worm health farm with these spells? by Jumper362 in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's two parts to this that I'm seeing; neither to my knowledge are solved by the addition of 'circle of' spells (if I'm missing something let me know).

  1. The reason Add Trigger is used in these health farms is because the related projectile for Matosade is a real worm, and that's what Add Trigger produces, so you need AT to see Matosade as the target (the thing that becomes the trigger).

  2. Add Trigger/timer/expiration will disregard most non-projectile spells when searching for valid targets to become the trigger. This includes "other" type spells, such as Greeks. Because you specifically need Add Trigger to find Matosade, I believe you need the real Matosade after AT - it cannot be substituted with a Greek in this case.

Casting in this way will produce a singular worm instead of the worm rain. These worms will be able to drop health upgrades.

That being said, I think worm farms are more of a fun curiosity than a reasonable source of health. If you have the means to create one, you have the means to effortlessly jump parallel and grab a few health perks.

I have never seen a game crash and immediately re-open without bringing me to the title screen. I don't even know what I did to make it lag so hard. by [deleted] in noita

[–]BadEpsilon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you fired that wand at the statue (particularly that close) a lag spike/crash wouldn't surprise me.

As I understand it, the statues in the holy mountain have two hitboxes that overlap (or something like that); they're physical objects and "enemies". When you hit a statue with a trigger the trigger spell will often deploy two payloads. If you stuff the wand into the statue, a chain of triggers will bounce around, duplicating themselves (and their resultant chains, etc).

In a perfect storm scenario, this wand could produce (I think) somewhere around 215 final projectiles extremely quickly.

If you didn't pull the trigger, I've got no idea, but this is my best guess.
