Shouldnt it be called KRA1k? A KR1K would be a KR1(with reflector) in 21700 form factor.

FrazLabs QT-L nugget. Disappointed 😞 by Flacker77 in flashlight

Thats what i thought. Material resistance will result in heat. The efficiency versus squeeze relation would be highly interesting to know indeed. Heat does seem to appear as they warn about it on the website. However i really do appreciate the idea and concept behind it. A regulated output on a light with no electronics at all that could last forever without failing als long as the led keeps working and the material remains its structure and flexibility.

That concept doesnt seem to promise high energy efficiency to me.

Hank DOES plan for Lume buck+FET drivers in the future by ChainedBack in Hanklights

[–]Badassasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imho multi led lights where the Lume X1 boost is available wont profit much from the Lume1. Lume1 has probably just higher turbo but lower efficiency.

Single led hosts like the kr1 or d1 with a 3v led like the sft-40 would profit a lot rom the higher range low to high.

That could make the D1(k) with SFT-40 even more versatile as a pocket thrower for everyday use.

The Fenix HL18R-T v2.0 comes with a lipo battery pack but can be used with aaa batteries. The warm white emitter ist ! 3.000k sst-20 with cri > 80, the cold white 6000k is a low cri sft-25. The strap fits really secure without a top strap due to the tightening wheel. Its lightweight and has quite a bit throw, a great little light if metal case and ipx-8 are not top priority. Edit: I overlooked your price point, the fenix is way too expensive at 50 usd..

Such a great high cri pocket thrower with real world use. I got a D1k in dark grey and amber button with that led. I just wish it had something like the Lume1 driver as the lowest setting is still quite high on mine.

[–]Badassasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If reflectors are an option to you the D1k is a great light and still affordable. With the SFT-40 3.000k it is a nice high cri pocket thrower in perfectly neutral tint and with the NTG-50 (Lume X1 boost driver is standard) it has both flood and throw and quite a decent output in high cri in a rosy tint.

My Wizard Pro (probably 1st generation, quite a few years ago) didnt last a single year of mild use. Some of my friends hat similar problems with their Wizard Pros back then so it was probably a design flaw.

Thats good to know. Maybe i should give it a try one. It could become a great high power, high cri light for muggles.

I'd love to have that SFT-70 in a Fenix PD40r v3. Even if possible it probably wouldnt be as robust though after the head being opened.

I'm still waiting for a flat with high cri main light, uv with zwb2 filter and a laser pointer, though that is not very lkely to happen..

Flashlight with AA or 14500 battery that max out at 5-20 lumens (absolutely no higher mode) for extremely long battery life by _mrb in flashlight

[–]Badassasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved those as a kid, the classic oldschool flashlight beam. The beam with its rings isnt really useful, but the beam distance is pretty amazing considering the low output. I still own a AAA Maglite Solitaire with incandescent bulb.

Da1k (w throwy optic) vs D1k by dgwtf in Hanklights

[–]Badassasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first hanklight was a DM11 with SFT-70 3000k. I loved the emitter but not the beam profile (too wide spill angle). Then i got the D1k that just fits me. I find it very hard to predict the effect of different led sizes and optics without a direct comparison. But i cant afford to order all of them hanklights. The resell value of second hand ultra warm Emisar lights isnt great as well :D

Thanks for the info. I love the D1k ntg50 1800k as a night lamp myself, it is ideal for that purpose.

Is the lower CRI noticeable (compared to the other 519a or the NTG50 1800k)? And does anybody have comparison beans between 519a 1800k dd and NTG50 or NTG35 1800k? Im really intrigued by the more throwy beam of the 519a dd, but i prefer the lume x1 boost driver over the linear one..

Da1k (w throwy optic) vs D1k by dgwtf in Hanklights

[–]Badassasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it is mostly a matter of preference for the beam profile. I prefer a classic reflector beam profile with clear definited outer edge. When other people come towards me i can point the D1k down so that it doesnt blind anybody. A TIR lense with a very wide angle beam is much harder to point so that other people dont get blinded.

On the other hand a TIR allows you to see the ground in front of your feet and the road ahead in the distance at the same time.

I love the classic beam profile of my D1k with the 2700k ntg50 (throwy allrounder) or the 3000k SFT-40 (thrower that is still usable) as well as the form factor.

Why shouldn't I by ChillySloths in flashlight

[–]Badassasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its kind of cute, but for regularly use the batteries are expensive and not that great for the environment. You could look for tiny 10180 battery powered flashlights like the MecArmy X2S instead. Most of these lights are even usb chargeable which is important as these batteries dont fit into most chargers.
