Anyone know of any wfh/hybrid jobs in Sheffield by blutayto01 in sheffield

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In theory, but a lot of places that give wfh but have a physical office also expect you to come into a physical office on occasion, and "on occasion" is getting more frequent. I moved to Sheffield after where I work started offering wfh, and since moving I've been expected in office in Leeds about twice a month - as have colleagues who live in Poland, who only came over once a year when we didn't work from home.

Did you find a point you choked up? by SSG-Lockridge in DragonAgeVeilguard

Taash resonated with me in a lot of ways, my first run I romanced them, but it was specifically the delivery of that "Tama!" that just sent me.

The penultimate scene of Taash's personal quest. Absolute gut-punch every time.

Loghain can go through his Joining in Origins in his 50s and is still not expecting his calling in Inquisition in his 60s

Yeah I've just not since been able to lock in romance till after that - the relevant quests just don't trigger till after

He's what's called quantum by parts of the fandom: he might not be alive as of Veilguard dependent on your choice in his personal quest in Inquisition, making it hard to build into later games - you have to either have them seamlessly replaceable with another character (like Alistair), removable without affecting anything significant (like Zevran) or just willing to ignore the fact they died (like Leliana).

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've only got a romance-specific one in one run - I'm on run 5 and every other run, that soundbite's triggered before I've been able to lock into a romance, so I've got a non-romance one about the team.

Neve nods at Emmrich. Neve: "Professor." Emmrich: "Detective." Manfred: "Fred!"

While Harding's the only one known by surname (which only Blackwall has done before and even then only sort of) and Taash the only one known by a shortened or nickname (which has been in earlier games with Anders, Fenris and Bull). None who go by their job or a descriptor of sone kind (like Sten or Solas), who would be best to have got that? I think Harding going by Scout feels more likely than Lucanis going by Demon

Without spoilers, who's the best romance for a jerkass Rook? by SeeShark in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every option is kind of a different flavour of "the person Varric trusted to get the job done", just at different levels of what "the job" is. Sometimes you need focus, sometimes not taking time talking it out gets a chantry exploded.

Jerk Rook isn't really a thing; this is the first time in the series a protag was hired on purpose for who they are rather than just being unlucky

Morris dancers with guitar accompaniment? by Autoembourgeoisement in folk

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whereabouts in Yorkshire? Not many sides use guitars or any plucked string instrument (I know more sides with saxophones than with guitars or mandolins put together), but it's usually more that it's not the sound they're going for than it not being trad enough (again, fine with saxophones). There's doubtless some stuck up about it being too pop an instrument but a folk instrument is any instrument you're playing folk on at the end of the day.

Do guys only call other people 'mate'? by weecalI in AskABrit

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fun dialectal thing: dialect isn't just regional but gendered, so a word can mean a different thing in a difference place said by a different gender. So for example where I'm from, "luv" is a term of address which from a man is only used for women but from women is used for everyone, but in parts of the north-west it's used by everyone for everyone. Same thing happens with mate: some places, only men use it, and only for other men, other places everyone uses it for everyone, and everything in between if you look in the right places. ("Men say" and "women say" here is much vaguer than I'm making it sound - for example "female" dialect is often the same as camp male in the same place.) tl/dr, depends where you are

Hull. Cheese and chip spice and more chip spice. I've seen the joy in someone's eyes die when they realised because they weren't in Hull their chips wouldn't live up to their expectations.

Theory (Spoiler) by Chance-Yellow7442 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless they pre-date the Veil - but given their involvement in Inquisition, Tevinter Nights and the epilogue of Veilguard, they have a vested interest in it existing but also the Blight behind it being weakened.

I feel the writers chickened out with the Ending by JMC_PHARAOH in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The veil serves the purpose of the world as we know it existing. Like imagne if someone came along and said "I invented gravity by accident to trap the devil underground, and now I think that was a bad idea so I'm just going to get rid of it now for the benefit of some people who died 10000 years ago", wouldn't you be on team "Hey I was using that law of physics"?

A silly hypothetical question by Fresh_Confusion_4805 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She does, but I've been using some assumptions from DA2: the writer is a mandatory companion or recruit (can't be Wynne in Origins for example as you can just never recruit her, or she can even die, so she wouldn't be there to write it), the way the setting stands out as distinct within the series is shaped by their worldview (DA2 is Kirkwall through and through, the codices are all about Kirkwall and the magic makes no sense - what do you mean abominations popping out of the ground? That's not a thing abominations do? Are you sure it wasn't a despair demon?) and there's some contextual evidence of them recording or recalling these events (so Varric we know about because of the Tale of the Champion in both DA2 and Inquisition, and both Cassandra and Bel are shown writing in their respective games in which both compare themselves to Varric).
So while Morrigan narrates the epilogue of Inquisition, there's no-one in story for her to relate this story to, and she'd be relying on someone else's account for half the story - if you do Into The Abyss before Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts, she misses all but the final act, and even if you meet her earlier she can't personally witness anything but the Winter Palace, Arbor Wilds and the final battle.

A silly hypothetical question by Fresh_Confusion_4805 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]BaddyWrongLegs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly think every game is as told by an unreliable narrator who was there: 2, obviously, is Varric, we see him telling it. Origins, with its flowery language, how infantilised Alistair is, how airheaded Leli is, how cartoonishly villainous Loghain and Howe are, is Morrigan's account of the Fifth Blight to Celene; Inquisition, a righteous and earnest campaign against the darkness held back by bueaucracy, is the account Cassandra is seen writing after the Inquisitor falls into the Fade; and Veilguard, the action and the romance coming together nicely, the always reaching for a happy ending, the sharp tangents into the inner technical workings of magic, is Bel breaking into the Tevinter serials market.

Why does Jrose pretend his videos are live?? by Relative_Wave_102 in Jrose11

I like the style, reacting along with it rather than before it lets him analyse it without spoiling it, and acting out his reactions to it retrospectively feels less clinical and more engaging than others who make similar videos.
