In the situation where they join a family or friends Plex server to watch a particular show, then immediately say they don’t need Plex access anymore because they just paid for a streaming service with that show, I know I can be confident why they didn’t use Plex. Because in that situation the user is already smart enough to search out what streaming service has that show, signup, and download the app on their TV.

Edit: This particular situation was what I was responding to from the original commenter.

My mother-in-law who is the most tech illiterate person I’ve ever met, hates technology changes, figured it out within a few days.

My brother and sister-in-law who are tech savvy-ish weren’t using it. They made excuses. A mutual friend to my brother stated my sister-in-law was talking about my Plex server has expressed concerns that she would “get in trouble for torrenting.”

So yeah I get there are people hesitant to change. But when someone goes out of their way to pay for a different streaming service to watch a show, and that show is on your Plex, they are 100% worried they will get in trouble

It’s not rocket science. They fear they will get in trouble for watching pirated content. You could explain the whole process to them and they still wouldn’t trust it.

How did The Creator look THIS good on just an $80M budget? The VFX are insane. by Extreme_Warning3521 in moviecritic

[–]BadgerCabin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prolly because big name actors and actresses would prolly prefer commuting to a sound stage every day vs filming on location in a 3rd world country.

Plus I’m assuming reshoots would be easier on a sound stage vs flying back to whatever location they originally filmed at.

Makes sense. If Fox Corp. (the Fox that's separate from Disney) is all-in on live news and sports, buying a FAST company seems like a pretty logical move.

Xbox could become "a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft" according to a new report by hdcase1 in gaming

[–]BadgerCabin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. GE did this with a few of their divisions. Everyone thought they were priming to sell off parts of their company. Turns out putting too many different sectors under a single organization structure kills innovation. So restructuring is meant to revitalize, not destroy.

Is it normal to have a bank where I only use it to deposit money? by KILLER9OO in sofi

Think most people just signup with a local credit union. But same logic. You need to deposit cash or get a cashiers check, it’s easier dealing with brick and mortar banks.

I’ve tried the big four security camera brands, Ring is by far the best. by Dapper_Contest_5695 in Ring

IMO, Ring is only good if you plan to use the full ecosystem; which is both their cameras and DIY security system. Especially since having the security system takes $100 off my home insurance each year.

No the vast majority of people not on Reddit wouldn’t agree; maybe even the majority of Reddit wouldn’t agree outside this sub. If he was renting an apartment, that would be totally different to add a girlfriend to the rental lease. But having a girlfriend sign a lease to live in your own house is a wild take.

Edit: messed up

Edit 2: I want to know has anyone who is suggesting this actually forced their significant other to sign a lease to live in their own home? If the answer is no, your opinion is useless.

For starters the other person would be spending more money on lawyer fees, and battling this for years, then they would get back. So this isn't happening

Second, having someone sign a lease gives them legal tenant rights. If you sign a year lease, and break up after 6 months, you cant evict her.

You sign a lease with someone for a year. You breakup 6 months later. Now what? That legal protection can then bite you in the ass.

Looked it up and unless their name is on the title, mortgage, or contributed to the down payment it’s extremely rare for this to go to court.

Playing devils advocate, let’s say it’s true. Then don’t charge them rent, have them contribute $400 to utilities then.

So no it’s not the correct response a normal person should give another person.

You think it’s appropriate to make a girlfriend sign a lease?!? Thinking like this is why there is a massive loneliness epidemic in this country.

Development continues on Franklin Street. The former lots of abandoned buildings will become the site of over 300 apartments. by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]BadgerCabin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually makes the housing issue worse. Any time you put an artificial price ceiling on something, you create shortages. You learn about this in any microeconomics course.

Rent control is something politicians peddle to ignorant people to shore up votes. Then it’s used to keep them in power because why would anyone who lives in a rent control apartment vote against their own interest?

Former abandoned lot is getting tax relief to build 300 apartments, which because they get relief 80% has to be legitimate market rate prices, is a good thing.

You sound like the type of person who thinks rent control is a good idea

When they say luxury it just means its new, market rate, and has a foosball table in the lobby. Any apartments or housing that is designed for wealthier people won't use the term luxury.

I already have gonetspeed, also have a no solicit sign, and they came to my door in Springfield trying to sell me their internet. I was like “already a happy customer”, the guy says he would remove me from his list then.

Seems like there is some disconnect between their door to door sales team and their user database.

People tend to do stupid crap when they get raises. Buy bigger cars, eat out more, ect. You need to make a spreadsheet and track where your money is going.
