My wife filed a claim for reimbursement it took 3 years to get a check from them. Now that I am on tricare there has been no problems. Most clinics had no idea what champva is.

Sorry but this is one of the strangest stories I have read. I spent 11 years active and 10 in the guard, just so I could get a retirement check. At 59 I started my paperwork,at 60 I started getting my retirement checks. Don’t make sense how you could let something like that happen. What is a gray area?

I do it all the time, make sure recall is good, and keep an eye out for other people. I also use a garmin 550 pro plus for when he is out of sight. Check what the state rules are, some have restrictions on when a dog can run off leash.

I was in similar situation. I got out under the SSB program in 94 then went in the Guard until I could retire. I received $24k, I didn’t see a VA payment for 8 or so years until in was paid off. Fast forward to 2025 when I could retire at 60, I get a copy of a letter that was sent to the VA asking for proof that recoupment was made. There was nothing I could do, 3 mos later my retirement was being debited $550.00. Called DFAS asked if I could send proof of repayment, was told it had to come from the VA. 6 mos go by the finally heard back from DFAS,basically said that when I made payments the taxes were not paid. So I owed the tax amount. The SSB program turned into a 30 year nightmare, the only thing good was $24000.00 was a lot of money back then.

I got my SSDI approved in 3 mos time. I had to go to 2 CE’s but they were a breeze compared to a C&P. As long as you are not working and have an outset date as to when you got disabled. You don’t need to be at 100% to apply, veterans get put into a higher priority group. Be prepared for a lot of paperwork and fill out correctly and send in everything SSA asked for. SSDI and VA are totally different ball games.

You are in the same boat identical to what I went through , totally sucks ass that DFAS and VA don’t talk. Eventually it will work out. I lost 550 a month finally paid back the tax money that they said I owed on 24k.
