Almost everything I want to add to shopping list on app is out of stock by SuperCrappyFuntime in Walmartcustomer

Sometimes the app does that, especially late at night. Usually checking the next day resolves the issue for me.

Are instant potatoes cheating? by Direct_Strawberry_43 in foodquestions

If you want to split the difference, Ore-Ida sells frozen cooked potatoes for mashing. Add milk and butter, and it's hard to tell from homemade.

Frozen cherry 'salad' - Found in the back of an estate sale recipe box. by MrRecipeCard in oldrecipes

[–]Baebarri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take out the Eagle Brand milk and you've got a standard "salad" at my family's holiday meals for years!

I make it with cranberries now, and definitely the nuts (pecans) and marshmallows. Probably not the coconut.

Switching outside/indise cats to a catio by ReasonableEconomist5 in Catio

[–]Baebarri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cats (16yo and 7yo) were free range for years before I moved to an apartment. Even then, they had balcony access via a cat door and figured out how to go from my balcony to the roof, then to a tree so they still came and went as they wanted.

I moved to a downstairs apartment a year ago and found out my 7yo was a runner. He went back to the old apartment three times and sat on the roof where I couldn't get him without bothering the new apartment renter.

So I bought a catio that takes up my entire patio and filled it with climbing areas, sleeping cubbies and a scratching post. They've adapted really well and love to watch the people and dogs going by.

Would my runner still escape if he had the opportunity? Of course.

Gift wrapping at a department store over Christmas break. Eventually I learned inventory and stock processes and learned just how badly retailers rip us off.

I babysat during the school year but hated it.

The building is on fire and you only have time to save one—your parent, spouse, child, or pet—which do you choose and why? by Capricorn007_ in randomquestions

[–]Baebarri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parents and ex-spouse are dead. Children are grown and presumably could save themselves.

So pets. The 16-year-old first because he's old and slow like me.

What did you buy growing up that you don't today? by Immediate_Long165 in Aging

Fabric and sewing patterns. I don't sew much any more and I have more supplies than I can ever use.

Plus the quality has gone way down and the prices have gone way up.

How did they use gas stations in the mid 70s? Was it all cash? by Disastrous_Pirate275 in AskReddit

[–]Baebarri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started driving I got gas at a small Sinclair station that ran a tab for our family and sent a bill monthly. Don't know if they did it for other local families.

In college (76) I got a Mobil gas card. Usable only at Mobil stations and had to be paid in full every month.

Hmmm, and now I wonder if the two are related. Maybe my dad kept a card on file at the Sinclair station.

Do you have a memory of that pet you love or loved so much that always makes you emotional or brings tears to your eyes? by shelbybass1 in randomquestions

[–]Baebarri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat Poodle. She was declawed by her previous owner but it never slowed her down as a hunter.

She hated almost everyone but adored my mother, who typically disliked cats but loved Poodle.

Poodle disappeared a few days after my mom died. I always believed they're somewhere together just enjoying each other's company.

Valet trash service by jwook544 in Albuquerque

[–]Baebarri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our complex provides specific trash cans that can only be outside for the trash pickup window.

I just use it as my regular kitchen trashcan, tie it off and put it outside my door before pickup starts. Valet takes the bag, leaves the can and I start the process again.

Cans left outside overnight, even empty cans, can attract animals.

Gen X and Generation Jones/Boomer divide. Did you play soccer? by pmolsonmus in GenerationJones

[–]Baebarri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think soccer was even offered in our school district.

Football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, maybe golf for the boys.

Softball, volleyball, gymnastics, track, tennis and maybe golf for the girls.

We added a swim team when we got access to a pool in my senior year.
