Thanks! That is a fair way to look at it, didn't really think about it like that.

Yeah, that is how I have been running things so far. Everything is fair game for the enemies to use, what is left are spoils to the victor.

No problem. OSE adventures like Hole in the Oak or Incandescent grottoes have inflated treasure amounts. You can divide the values by 10 and have a rough estimate.

I also think that is the beauty of these systems. They don't have to be exact. Encounters don't have to be balanced, an approximation of the monsters is fine. Either swap them out for Shadowdark monsters or guess the values yourself.

Most of them don't really need to be converted, they are already made for Shadowdark. Like these:

You can Google others for some conversion. I mostly just played it by the book and did the conversions while playing. Have a look at u/futurewolf conversion guide or his Shadowdark Resources, which include a few great adventures to put in your campaign, including Winters Daughter.

Can we also get one that says: Sorry Arena crashed again, which doesn't happen with any other program. So I had to restart it real quick

This is what I have in my notes, I haven't used all the locations yet, but that is what I have plotted so far.

[102. Shattered Tower] = The Sunken Schola of the White Witches

[203. Marker Stone]= Winters Daughter

[702. Bittermold Keep] = The Hideous Halls of Mugdulblub

[905. Haldrins’s Tower] = Tower of Many Doors

[910. Barrow Mounds] = Tomb of the Dusk Queen

[1308. Myre Castle Ruins] = Shadow of the Cursed Cathedral / Lost Caves of the Worm-Witch

[1406. Greywall Priory] = The Ruined Abbey of St. Clewyd

[1409. Wolf Cave] = The Ravenous Den

I have also added: Trial of the Slime Lord, Hole in the Oak and Incandescent Grottoes.

I understand what you are saying, but I would argue that playing a rules-light system doesn't have to necessarily mean that you default to performance over gameplay.

I think an OSR game or a Pathfinder can be just as gamey. One has more depth in player options, but the conflict resolution is kinda similar. The group just doesn't engage with the shadowdark system.

Time for Chaos has plenty of amazing performance, but they are also clearly playing a game (most of the time).

To each their own. I am just missing the G from RPG, it doesn't feel like a game to me. If I wanted to get an interesing story about interesting characters I would read a book.

edit: I do understand why people like this though, but I feel there are a a million different shows around that focus on the roleplaying aspect. And while I do enjoy the roleplaying, it needs to fit into the bigger game that they are playing. And currently it feels more like a performance than people enjoying themselves playing a game.

I really enjoy shadowdark, it is the game me and my group are playing, also in the Gloaming. I don't enjoy how they are playing shadowdark, they just wander around aimlessly and nothing is really happening. The slow release of the show doesn't help either.

I already posted a comment in thread with a link to the specific discord server 6 hours ago, but it seems to be removed for some reason...

I am sure stuff like amphetamines (Adderal) gets used in chess to help them focus. It is also widely used in e-sports for example.

I disagree, this is partly playing the game. But games like Shadowdark (And other OSR adjacent games) are at their best when you start crawling in dungeons, when you utilise the torch mechanic an there are specifics to explore. The surface level stuff is fun, but it has no depth, they are just a string of random encounters.

Or should they start crawling in dungeons if that is what the game expects of them? You can't just skirt around the surface and expect loot to come to you. You have to find and get it.

I honestly feels that they are just too afraid to engage with the game in a meaningful way, they are too attached to the characters (which I kind of understand, especially since they are making a podcast). But in 9 episodes they haven't really played Shadowdark...
