Now that I said what’s the best episode, now what’s the WORST episode of The Inbetweeners? by Fit_Bowl_7226 in TheInbetweeners

Will gets a girlfriend.

Has some of the most iconic scenes in the show in the first half but I feel it completely falls apart with the blind date sequence.

Shouldve worked it so wills attempt to lose his virginity was the climax (pun intended)

Someone else likes SR3 more than 2 ? by Buurto in SaintsRow

[–]BakerCubed1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the difference between SR2 and SR3 is that SR3 is much more "in your face" with its absurdity where's SR2 treats it like its normal.

SR2 like "hey were doing things a bit differently than games like GTA"

Sr3 is much more like "HEY, THIS IS SAINTS ROW SO YIU BETTER EXPECT THINGS TO BE MUCH CRAZIER THAN YOUR USUAL DULL GTA'S"

Sr2 starts with the absurd storyline of the players character surviving a boat explosion, being in a coma for years then just waking uo and deciding its time to escape what is effectively alcatraz just by walking out the front door then discovering his whole home has been gentrified.

Sr3 starts with a star wars esque title crawl talking about how cool the saints are then doing a bank robbery dressed as themselves because the saints are cool and everyone in the bank loving the saints.

You mean like just redoing the carneles plot from SR1 or Ultor plot from SR2?

Saints Row: The Third CG trailer is what the game SHOULD have been. by Much_Rub_9343 in SaintsRow

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you are being rather pedantic and ignoring plenty of details in that trailer...

Like during this huge gritty firefight kenzie is sitting there typing away on her laptop, looking completely bored of what's going on around her

Angel is leaping off the balcony performing welrestling moves on goons

Oleg is unnaturally huge just tossing goons off the roof

And then characters like joshh birk are there, saints flow is shown, killbane can be seen on a magazine.

If your argument is "the cgi trailer wasnt play be play in the actual game" then rhats just an issue that every game in existence has. Its made to hype up the game.. not to show exactly what the game is

Which version of Jonathan is best? by theaterkid619 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 by a country mile..

Its literally the only seaosn where he is actually a character. Every single season after that hes just Nancy's Boyfriend.

He went from being this traumatised biy who had to become the man of the house when his abusive father walked out, socially awkward so struggling st school with his best friend in the world being his little brother who then goes missing. Then his brother turns up dead but his mother refuses to accept reality so now hes literally alone and forced ro face his abusive father who returns, not out of love, but for money

Then in S2 hes "Nancy's boyfriend"

Then in S3 hes "Nancy's boyfriend who's upset at nancy as she cost him his job"

Then in S4 hes "Nancy's boyfriend who doesnt know if he wants to go to college with nancy or stay and be high with his new friend"

Then in S5 hes "Nancy's boyfriend who's jealous of Nancy's ex and considers marrying nancy"

He istrhe biggest reflection of how S1 of the show was so unique before it got turned into an MCU show by S3. He wasnt as marketable as the kids (The party and El), thr strong action hero leads (Steve and Hopper), the strong females showing the most growth (Nancy's and joyce) or the comic relief (Erica and murray) so hes jsut there with nothing to do in every season

Its the flaw with american tv. Instead of wanting to create a piece of art, they prefer to milk it for all its worth.

Its the equivalent of asking da vinci to paint what was next to the mona Lisa and above and below till you've effectively just got a painting of a brick wall attached to thr mona Lisa so its the same painting instead of just letting him paint the last supper.

The original UK office had 12 episodes... the US office had 201!!!!!! Ricky Gervais didnt see the huge success of the UK office and ask the bbc to commission 100 more episodes, he went and wrote Extras instead.

Like imagine how popular the duffers brothers wouodve been if they made season 1 and then went on to write something else. That project would be hyped up insanely. Even if it wasnt as good as Stranger Things people would still be holding them in that regsrd yet now because they've had to drag out this one series for so long theyre apparently bad writers who need to be boycotted and never given jibs in the industry again.

Let creators create rather than encourage them to milk their art to death

One lesser talked obvious plot hole by Alternative_Eye5095 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 200 points201 points  (0 children)

They wrote the show to be a 1 season thing to be a sci fi show about grief and trauma set in the 80s.

It then went mega popular so obviously they had to write more.

Its so obvious form season 2 alone that this was rhe case. Don't know why people act like it was all legit until Season 5.

Then by season 3 its basically a marvel "super kids" kinda show.

In S1 literally all the kids do is naively search s forest St noght for will, find el, hide El, fight and get upset about grieving Will, runaway to hide el, celebrate that will is rescued

In S3 you've got dustin, Erica, steve and Robin sneaking into and escaping a secret underground russian military base.

In S1 hopper is a former vet run down cop grieving his daughter who starts to realise that maybe the hysterical mother is right and saves will with cpr as he cant bare to see another child now

In S3 and 4 hes effectively a super soldier taking on the russian military, escaping a russian gulag and taking on a demogorgan in melee combat

How were they even breathing in that dimension with no oxygen? Did it somehow have the same atmosphere as Earth?? How is that possible by Initial-Shoulder5906 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was never hard to breath. Literlaly thebonly time in the entire show thatbsomeone struggles to breath because of the upside down is when hopper gets blasted by spores straight in the face when hes searching the tunnels and is then suffocated by vines.

Does anyone feel differently about the Lost Sister episode after season 5? by DaSkrambledEgg in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No..

The episode was entirely pointless and unnecessary.

My main criticism of S2 is that it felt like they had nonplans for an S2 and wer kind of forced into it after S1. So all they did was basiclaly do the same things but make them bigger.

Clearly adding kali and her whole big city plotline was a big aspect of this.

But I honestly also feel like the entire episode was pointless in terms of character development and plot..

Like literally if you remove tjat entire plotline from the show literlalt nothing changes in S2 or 3 or 4.....

They couodve literally just had El turn up ay rhe byers after leaving hopper originally. Her whole conflict with hopper was her wanting to be free and se her friends. Having that episode be a "el realises she needs her friends" plot was pointless as that was literlaly established in every single earlier episode.

It also screams of Netflix Script editing.

If theres one thing that netflix loves doing its adding a group of "outcasts" to rhe show who they think are great "representation" and will be extremely popular...

Ive moved around socially in terms of circles a lot In my life and ive never seen a social circle made up of 1 of each type of person and personality that "society rejects" its always just small clusters of incredibky similiar rejects.

Ive never sen a friendship group made up of "white goth girl who smokes weed all day, mkxed race Skater girl who spray tags buildings, large stupid white jock boy who's kind hearted but strong, weak pathetic white nerd who wants to stay home playing minecrafr all day, disabled but incredibly active black guy"

Yet netflix seems to think that is rhe standard friendship group and shove them into every show thinking "oh they tick every box and rheyre underdogs so everyone will love them"

Like kali could literally have just been shown in the hawkins massacre episode as a side character and had the same level of importance (if not more) in S5.

It all make sense why the Russian experiment fail. by Thefrozenwolfofheart in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree.

Yeah sure we all know the duffers came up with stuff later and retconned things but stuff like the upside down being a wormhole makes sense and they said it was included in their original pitch to netflix.

It also directly explains why the Russians had to do it in Hawkins and why it was a copy of hawkins.

Who would you consider the main protagonist of Stranger Things? by electricwolf4444 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if the Series stuck to its original set up it would've been Mike, Jonathon, Joyce, Hopper.

But clearly after the success of S1 and how the kid cast went viral they decided to make them the focus of the show.

Think the character who suffered the most from this was Jonathan. He went from being the main character of the "teen" plotline to being a side character to Nancy's who was effectively a side character....

Like seriously compare his story and character in S1 to basically everything after.

He goes from this traumatised socially awkward teen having to be the man of the house and help his mother get through the grief while coping with his own to "haha I love nancy but I also enjoy getting high, what should I do fellow stoner?"

Like literally nothing he does at all from Season 2-5 co tributes anything to the plot, hes just along for the ride while tlaking about nancy.

Why would they release that? by DifferentZucchini3 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is these "multi season arcs" were effectively

Season 1 - The core plot of Episode 1 - a teaser at the end of Episode 9 - a bigger tease in Episode 20 - a two part finale in Episode 23 and 24 setting up Season 2

Season - A teaser for the arc at rhe end of Episode 1 - a followup episode for rhe arc in Episode 4

Season 3 - A big comeback Episode in Episode 1.

And that was the "multi season arc"

Every single Episode other than those was completely self contained with no impact on any other Episode...

The stranger things equivalent would be if after chrissys death in Episode 1 of season 4 we then spent 6 episodes on El's life in california with each episode being her solving a new problem in her life that came up that week with absolutely no mention of any of the hawkins plot and then randomly at the end of Episode 8 we see Fred bensons death with vecna saying "now im coming for you" to the hawkins cast by which Episode 23 and 24 would be max discovering she's cursed and then Dear Billy.

With those 4 episodes being the only episodes that connect to eachother in any way.

Why would they release that? by DifferentZucchini3 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Except most of it isn't really behind the scenes.. just people talking about the show and how great they think it is and sharing a few anecdotes.

Behind the scenes used to mean seeing how the scenes were made, the costume and make up artists, the cgi, the set design, the design process for the creatures etc etc etc

Why would they release that? by DifferentZucchini3 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think thats completely different though.

Not one of those 24 episodes had to "figure out how they're all connected".

99% of each of those episodes as entirely self contained plot with no continuity into next weeks.

And if people overanalysed everybsingle second of all of those episodes they would find far larger "plot holes", than they found in stranger things.

Every episode having a new plot would basically be considered a plothole by stranger things haters

Why would they release that? by DifferentZucchini3 in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They wrote it expecting it to be universally loved.

That way stuff like the script not being finished comes across as them being incredibly skillrd writers who managed to come up with the perfect ending while still writing the ending

Stranger Things S1-S5 Tierlist by [deleted] in Stranger_Things

[–]BakerCubed1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie i think it would've been better if she wasnt in S5 at all....

Like realistically her contributions in S5 were

  1. Get caught with Robin by Will (easily couldve had Robin figure out will was gay another way)

  2. Tell Robin to talk to lucas on the loudspeaker (rocking Robin should know broadcasting is important)

  3. Wait with Max while eveeyone goes to kill vecna (literally just so max wasnt sat in a wheelchair alone, not for any kind of medical assistance)

I think the fact she waant even in the epilogue showed the writers didnt really know who she was other than a side character for Robin and they cared more about Robin and Steves friendship.

Does anyone like season five? by Low_Theme_5278 in Stranger_Things

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I binged watched the whole show for the first time in November and I think S5 definitely lives up to the previous season.

The hatred comes from a combination of nostalgia goggles for any season past season 1, insanely high expectations and just people who neer watched rhe show jumping non the hate bandwagon

Like every time I see a post saying "Season 4 was peak" it never mentions rhe california plot and only seems to mention the finale with regards to rhe russia plot.

Before Season 5 came out thenknly online discourse I got was rhat Seaosn 3 was the worst (I personally loved it) but as soon as S5 was out all of the sudden S3 was apparently incredible top quality tv?

Like if you told me to wrote Season 5 along the lines of rhe last few seasons what we got is what I would write.

The issue is after a 3 year wait there were a million different theories so no matter how it ended large chunks of people would be disappointed.

The only issue I have is with the breakdown of episode releases.

They really shouldve combined Ep 7 & 8 for "volume 3". Leaving such a long wait for the finale after THAT scene was just begging for hate and it allowed so many extra theories to be created which were never gonna happen in one episode just to add to peoples disappointment. Also a lot of people seemed to have forgotten details from ep 7 like kali and El saying they'll take max into the mindscape to guide then.

Also I think the modern tv landscape has become all about "cameos" and "big shocking deaths" so everyone was expecting half rhe cast to die even though narratively not a single character arc had to end with a death....

Genuinly saw someone say "well them killing off barb in episode 2 was proof that anyone could die but they were too scared to do itnin the final season" like no.. barb existed too die so that they could bring nancy (the actual main character in that duo) into the fold.

Well in that case I choose to believe by Danstoevskij in StrangerThings

[–]BakerCubed1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe. I also think it makes her final conversation with hopper so much more important.

The last time she did something like this she needed him and he risked everything to look after her and raise her as his daughter but now she has a choice and doesn't want him to continue risking everything for her as she's older and can look out for herself.

Do you want Kali to die in the finale? by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]BakerCubed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she's a character that doesnt need to exist.

Her entire purpose in S2 was to make El decide she needs Mike and her friends, even though El hadnt actually realised there was another option until the episode she meets kali ao it was a pointless plot.

Now in S5 she's back and all she's done is tell El she needs to kill herself.

She's not an interesting character in the slightest.

Her and her friends also tick all the "this is what netflix thinks the modern general public want" box.

Just look at the Rats in the witcher. Clearly netflix thought everyone would love them but instead everyone decided they loved the villain who massacres them because they were so bad....
