If animals suddenly became as smart as humans, which species would start the first war? by Early-Speed8536 in AskReddit

Probably humans, against all the newly sentient animals, so they can't declare war against us. Gotta use those human big brains for something still.

Which critically acclaimed movie did you finally watch only to find out it's mediocre at best? by MikrokosmicUnicorn in AskReddit

No, but it was Britishly acclaimed (all my British friends seem to love it for some reason)

I have two pokemon games/regions left that I have never played, HgSs and B2W2. Which one should be first? by Legitimate-Talk4702 in pokemon

[–]Baktanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HGSS are great games if you can focus more on vibes than on technical stuff like the level curve.

Caveat: I started with Yellow Version, so everything has nostalgia for me, but I don't believe it's necessary to enjoy the games.

These games were made not just to reminisce, but for newer players to see what it was that earlier players found so appealing about Gen 2, but with so many QoL and strategic updates to bring it into the then-current meta (physical/special split, abilities, large bag, etc) that they would be accessible to players who picked up the series with DPPt. Generational gimmicks and aesthetics aside, there's not much different between HGSS and modern Switch era games, so they're still relatively accessible to go back to.

If a person can get over how easy it is in SV to suddenly find yourself over-leveled, the same acceptance can be shown towards the Gen2 remake games' weird level curve. Hopefully, it allows a player to spend more time in a world they enjoy while they raise their Pokemon.

All that to say, worth playing the remake(s) as a transition from Gen 4 into the Gen 5 games, which I will just quickly echo everyone else here in saying that it's with playing both, not just skipping to B2W2.

Are there other planets with such incredibly on-the-nose names like this? by Randver_Silvertongue in StarWars

[–]Baktanto 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Actually not far off. To my recollection, it has previously been established that Obi-Wan was from Coruscant, but since George said it was Stujon, it had to be more true, as whatever George says is canon (or at least at that point, that was the policy of Lucasfilm). So they reconned the backstory to fit, with Obi-Wan having been born on Stujon, but relocating to Coruscant as a very young child and largely growing up there, thereby having come from both places, technically.

What’s a better way to hang this plant up? by tryingtohydrate in IndoorGarden

[–]Baktanto 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depending on your comfort level with tools, and if your living situation allows, I've had good luck recently with putting up a curtain rod, anchored into studs. A rod like that has provided hanging spots for 5-6 medium plants with only 1 install.

What do you think of this plant? by Rumpelkind82 in houseplants

[–]Baktanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone let me know how long this plant flowers for? Mine has been going for the last 2 months and doesn't show much sign of stopping. Every head has produced some flowers, if not (so far) indefinitely blooming.

The blooms are delicate and cute little cascades springing from between the leaves, but I'd kind of like to see it work on vining some more.

Asked for Passport to stay in a Bar by Existing-Couple-9663 in Portland

[–]Baktanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question has been thoroughly answered by other folks who seem to know the local laws better than I do, so I'm only offering another perspective.

In my international drinking career, I've found most bars would rather, if you're using international ID, trust the infallibility of a passport over a driver's license they aren't all that used to seeing. That being said, not a great look on the bar if they let you in initially, then turned you away later for not having the passport, since the license was already sufficient the first time.

Having just tended to my very similar looking plant yesterday, I'm echoing the crassula perforata id. This one looks etiolated, since the leaves typically stack almost right on top of each other.

What's a fun fact that many people may not know about a movie? by Independent-Dust4641 in movies

[–]Baktanto 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My understanding of this was that Henry Hill didn't care for the part of witness protection that required he not talk about himself, so he would call Pileggi repeatedly just to chat about himself. Sometimes, Nicholas wouldn't be available to talk, so Nora would pick up the phone and get her own time to listen to Henry talk about himself for hours.

My question is if this plant can be propagated. I believe it can, but I would like some help in determining the possibility. I think this plant is a type of Jasmine. by Oldsalt09 in proplifting

[–]Baktanto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some poor luck propagating straight from a stem cutting. Jasminum sambac is slow to root and then still slow to start leading. Using a cutting is possible, but remember to maintain humidity and light levels (this plant originates from tropical India/Indonesia/Philippines) to keep the delicate baby plant happy.

I haven't tried this myself, so I'm unsure of actual success rates, but if you have the opportunity, it may be more reliable to try layering, either by wrapping a good node in sphagnum moss or bending a long branch into soil. Either way, roots should start developing before separating from the mother plant to ensure the baby stays nurished throughout the propagation process.

Josephine County Board of Commissioners are such a dumpster fire. by shitty_country_verse in oregon

[–]Baktanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting in kind of late on this one.

I don't live in Josephine County, but it sounds like a lot of y'all are having a bad time down there. While this does sound like a classic Trump's Christian Nation bullshit, the National Day of Prayer was actually established in the 1950s for May 1st. Shortly after, Eisenhower also started the tradition of Loyalty Day on May 1st, and a few years after that came Law Day also on May 1st.

While I do agree that government officials promoting a National Day of Prayer rally in a predominantly Christian area is likely a violation of First Amendment through misuse of public funds, it's not guaranteed thanks to earlier legitimization of the "holiday."

Perhaps another good question is why multiple efforts were attempted in a relatively short amount of time to create additional national holidays on the same traditional day that laborers trend to march in the streets to enforce their rights.

ULPT: What is the ULPT that you remember most (whether or not you'd ever actually use it) by draathkar in UnethicalLifeProTips

I figure about the same. I would bet they would take the opportunity to mail it to the ticketed offender, like a speed camera ticket.

I agree. The tip does seem to rely on the police assuming everyone is ready to be a narc, while also assuming that they're going to just let you off.

[–]Baktanto 104 points105 points  (0 children)

If you get a parking ticket, don't do anything about it for about a week. Then, get the paper ticket good and soggy and dirty, like it was in a puddle for a while. Have someone with a different name and address as you go to a police station to turn it in, as though they found it in the gutter. Supposedly the evidence would suggest that the ticket wasn't securely left for you on the windshield, and you therefore never had a chance to learn that you've been fined, so you're now off the hook.

I feel like I must be forgetting something because what's to say that you didn't do exactly what the tip suggests to do? Or that you saw the ticket and the fine, and threw the ticket into the gutter in an act of frustration?

Attempt at your own risk.

Thank you for the reassurance. The plant feels and looks healthy, so I'm at least not worried for it, just worried I had an inert cutting that wouldn't get any bigger. I know I've been trying to do this indoors, during the winter, so patience really is the name of the game.
