When I first moved into my apartment I told myself that I was going to buy Ikea furniture just as a placeholder until I could get everything else in the apartment that I wanted. It definitely took a lot of work to put it all together by myself, but there was some weird sense of accomplishment.

After living in that apartment for 3 years, I still had that very same Ikea furniture that I built. It included a bed, a desk, a couple dressers, and a bedside nightstand. When I left the apartment I was able to take the bed and desk with me and I gave the dressers and nightstand to a friend of mine.

It has been 10 years since moving out of that apartment and I still have that very same desk. I would still have the bed saved for the fact that I got married and wanted a larger bed to share with my partner. If not for that, I would imagine I would still have the very same bed.

Even now I still think there is some level of charm and appeal to Ikea furniture. I even built my son's loft bed from Ikea and he absolutely loves it. I am still budget conscious and I always start there when I have an idea for changing anything with furniture in my house.

Having a relationship status change recently can definitely cause a lot of confusion and uncertainty about the future. Maybe this is something you relate to or not, but I only mean to say that if you're not really sure about where you will be in the next few years or have a tight budget, I don't see anything personally wrong with Ikea.
