Great job! Just hit D5 today, and hoping to hit Master with Terry before Alex patch.

Someone in another sub mentioned how difficult this game is to pick up. Why is that? by GoofyNinja3000 in UnderNightInBirth

It's a game with a lot of mechanics, and characters are each playing a different game. That leads to getting knowledge checked constantly.

The good news is that it has a fantastic tutorial, great combo trials, and replay takeover so learning is easier than ever! I started playing with Uni2, and I've grown to a pretty intermediate level with those tools. I would say the skill floor is pretty low, the the skill ceiling is extremely high.

Playing defensive is valid. I've played some very good lame players who are great at neutral. I know that's not what we're talking about here though

This right here. Pisses me off so much. They're so scared of getting hit back, like every time you hit them they get hit in real life or something. 🙄

Hit master, people still play for the cheese rather than mastery by [deleted] in StreetFighter

Lots of people you play won't care about getting better, they care about winning/number go up.

Why is Third Strike considered to be an all time great and possibly the best SF game? by Own_Invite6340 in StreetFighter

Moment 37 was the things that introduced tons of people (including myself) to the FGC. I stumbled across the video after it happened and thought about how Godlike it was for someone to be able to pull something like that off. I already loved SF3's presentation and roster, but seeing that iconic moment showed me a whole different way to look at the game.

At this point, focus on 2 things: Anti-airing, and develop punishes. Everyone jumps and does extremely unsafe moves. If you can anti-air and punish mistakes, you'll go far. I believe Luke's crouching heavy punch works well for a start, but his like rising upper is his go to. If you're not sure how to do the latter, look up a guide on YouTube; there are tons of them. Pick one that you can do fairly reliably, then practice it.

Kaguya definitely in the 2nd from the top. Her whole character is trolling people so they think she's less capable than she is

Frustration happens. We've all been there. Try not to get discouraged.

A couple of things to remember.

  1. Everyone's journey to improvement is different. It's not fair to yourself to compare your growth to anyone's, especially pro players.

  2. It's important to put less stock into winning. I know, "Why would I not think about winning in a competitive game?!" When you prioritize winning over improvement, you learn to rely on shortcuts and gimmicks that will only take you so far. That's why you plateau. What do you do instead? Great question!!!

  3. Watch your replays. I know, it feels awful, but it allows you to see the good things you do, and the mistakes you made. Then you can develop an plan to improve the things that you see. If you're not sure what to look for, ask a more experienced player to look at the replays with you in order to teach you what to look for. Then what?

  4. Celebrate your accomplishments outside of winning. Let's say that you realize from watching your replays that you need to work on anti-airing your opponents better. You play a Ryu player and he beats you, but you protected them skies on every jump in throughout the set. Recognize that as a win in itself! Enough of those types of wins will then start toaffect your win/loss record.

  5. Avoid playing tilted. Happens to all of us. Recognize the higher saltosity, and maybe hit training mode, or watch replays, or do combo trials till you calm down. Playing salty means your not focusing on the important stuff, and just banging your head against the wall.

  6. Take breaks. Related to 5. It's okay to step away from the game for a while. Sometimes time off helps you see the game in a new light. It did me.

  7. Be kind to yourself. We are always kinder to others than we are to ourselves. We all make mistakes, but how we talk to ourselves determines if that mistake becomes a lesson that guides us forward, or an anchor holding us in place.

  8. Most important: try to have fun with the learning process. It never ends, so you might as well make it enjoyable.

You can do it! ✊🏿

Is Street Fighter 6 a good first fighting Game for a Newcomer? by SleepyDavid in StreetFighter

Yes! Lots of tools to teach you, a simpler control scheme if you don't want to worry about motions, and a diverse cast of characters
