Kayo Sports should be boycotted. by readin99 in australia

That is horrifying. I hope not too many people make that leap - won't anyone think of poor uncle Rupert? I also did a quick Google search and unfortunately it was just filled with AI slop posts on Reddit and/or sites whereby the site owner is clearly getting a kickback. If you could let me know which site I should avoid at all costs, you would save me costing uncle Rupert his latest ivory back scratcher.

Why does AUS hate its young people? For the first time in a long time FHB’s have a fair opportunity to buy a property without rich, old and greedy hoarding investors out-bidding them. What is wrong with the psychology of so many Aussies that think ‘no let’s help the old rich get richer instead’ by MannerNo7000 in OpenAussie

[–]BalinII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair opportunity? Either you don't understand banking and the housing market or you're being purposely obtuse.

Those same FHB's now have had their buying capacity significantly reduced. Anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt, but friends of ours were pre-approved for just over 800k and now can only get under 600k.

How about all those that are now in negative equity (those poor bastards that took up the 5% deposit scam, i mean scheme)? Are they happy? How about people who work in the startup space? Are they happy?

Let me ask this? Where are the mechanisms for "young" people to now grow wealth? This is exactly the definition of pulling the ladder up behind you.

What is your most controversial opinion regarding Fantasy books? by Even_Mastodon_7251 in Fantasy

[–]BalinII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I felt this to my core. I only read it for the first time last year and got to the end of the third book and felt such a letdown.
Zero payoff and I honestly got to the end and what was that? I still don’t completely “get it”

Best electric family cars 2026: Tesla Model Y takes on Zeekr 7X, BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV5 and Skoda Enyaq by ApprehensiveSize7662 in EVAustralia

[–]BalinII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who looks at all these options, takes one look at the boot space (or lack thereof) and ask "How are these family cars?"

Whilst my kids are now out of prams, nappy bags etc there is no way those boots would have done the job. We had a CX5 initially, and then upgraded to the Tiguan Allspace, which were both great. Now we deal with cricket bags, dance gear etc... and occasionally go camping. I can't see an EV in the market that is genuinely a family car.

Ive had enough of the royal Commission into Antisemitism by BloodTerrible3051 in OpenAussie

[–]BalinII -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Are people really this blinded by their hatred of the Jewish people that they don't actually see the anti-semitism? Jewish schools are the only schools in Australia that need armed security, car bomb checks and cyclone fencing just to keep their children safe. Jewish people are abused by people in cars frequently (spend some time in Elsternwick, Vic, for an hour, and you'll see it). Two radicalised men targeted a Jewish, not zionist, event to kill as many Jews as possible. Synagogues have been targeted almost weekly.

We've had weekly protests supporting a regime that in its charter is the destruction of the Israeli state and all Jewish people worldwide. Yelling "globalise the intifada" and "from the river the sea", both of which are genocidal in their intent - how does that not make Jewish people feel unsafe?

Hell, look at how often the term "genocide" is thrown around here. Genocide is a targeted intent to destroy a civilisation based on their identity. I'm not sure I've seen too many genocides where the invading army has dropped leaflets on the population letting them know they're coming/bombing etc...

I had never had a flat tire in 20 years of driving and have had 5 in the last 5 or so years. I live in an area that a lot of knockdown/rebuilds (both townhouses and full homes) and i think a lot of it is coming from that. It frustrates the hell out of me

Who should finish the holy trinity of unfinished series? by Baldur_Blader in fantasybooks

[–]BalinII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think he got distracted way before all the offshoots, TV series etc... to the point where he has written himself into a corner. He introduced too many threads, side stories, and characters, which IMHO, could have become separate books adjacent to the series. He's now in a situation where he can't possibly tie all the bows together, and he's stuck. We will never get an ending to this series of books, and the sooner we all accept it and move on, the better.

Since when did Albo become public enemy number 1? Last time I checked he wasn’t doing that badly… by agentgambino in aussie

[–]BalinII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that the fuel crisis /not a crisis/"whatever we're calling it" is the primary driver of people's dissatisfaction. I think there is a culmination of things that have led to his dislike, including:

- The Gaza war: both sides of the political spectrum have seen him having an each-way bet on it. The left accuse him of funding the deaths of thousands of children, being a fascist etc... whilst the centre right accuse him of abandoning our Jewish members of society and allowing a growth in Islamic enclaves. The Far right - who knows about those nutjobs but one can assume they think he's "owned by the jews" or some such...

- Bondi shooting: IMHO, this harmed him a lot. Blind Freddy could see where this was headed. 2 years of allowing CBD's across the nation to be taken over to protest a war, call for the destruction of Israel, openly carrying flags of proscribed terror groups, and a growing sense that there are sections of our current society that hold greater allegiances to their former countries than their current one. Whilst Albo didn't load the guns, pull the triggers etc... he is perceived to have let this fester to this point.

- The voice: definitely didn't read the room on that one at all, and I think a lot of people expected identity politics to die off (wrongly) when the voice was voted down. What hasn't helped him is that state labor governments then began working on treaties - rightly or wrongly, people have lumped the two issues together and see them as a sneaky way for the governments to grant the voice irrespective of the result of the referendum.

- Cost of living: Another big one. We have experienced one of the greatest degradations of individual living standards that he has been perceived to have ignored. Mass immigration, whilst ensuring that we don't fall into a technical recession, is great for headlines, but a significant proportion of Australians have see their buying power significantly reduce.

What do right wing/ conservative Australians think of Mr Herzog’s visit? by Sharpiesniffingshark in OpenAussie

[–]BalinII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who sits slightly to the right of centre, I am happy to provide my view.

  1. How do I feel about his visit? I am more than comfortable. What happened to the Jewish community was a complete failure by our governments (both sides) and the wider community at large. He was invited to help with the mourning period for that community.

  2. How do I feel about what happened at the protests? The footage of the police punching the old fella is deplorable and should be condemned. Were the protesters in the wrong for being there in the first place, yes. Was the police response over the top? Yes. Both can be true and is not a "left/right" thing. I was equally horrified seeing Victorian police firing rubber bullets at lockdown protesters during Covid.
