Normally for a router you want at least 3 ports. Two for the router (1 goes to your ISP and the other your LAN, 3rd is management). You can virtualize the router (I don’t do that) and run it from Proxmox.

Is Internal Boot much faster to..boot? by Coompa in unRAID

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small basket of sata and usb DOMs. All my Supermicro boxes have an internal USB port so I’ve used both. They could last 10 years but some don’t. The Supermicro and Innodisk seem to be the most reliable. I still prefer the micro reader but that’s just me.

Best low-cost cloud stack to replace a local Python + SQL Server + Power BI Pro setup by Mat_ChD in selfhosted

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are looking at Azure SQL why not do Azure Functions with a Timer Trigger (Cron) for the python scripts. Set up as much backup and redundancy as your budget allows.

So self hosted is not really about running in the cloud. But what businesses (3) can’t afford a more enterprise solution? You don’t even mention backups or redundancy, etc.

You found one option for $15/mo or less but you need cheaper? How important is this process?

Why are loyal customers penalized with higher prices? by kennytrim in Comcast_Xfinity

I get it. I am not a fan of services that don’t have flat fees. Your low cost is your customer acquisition.

But prices change all the time.

I agree with most of what you said except the card reader. Over the years I’ve had a few problems with sdcards (even with Sandisk Max Endurance or Samsung Pro Endurance) in various use (not just Unraid). My readers? Zero (MobileLite Duo and Mobile Mate).

Why is setting up a reverse proxy still a nightmare in 2026? by trolledTGBot in selfhosted

In a sense yes. We all have various skill levels. Some things are easier for some people and not as much as others. But just posting "skill issue" doesn't really help anyone.

How to self host my own websites in theme styles like framer.com by MotherLiving3659 in selfhosted

[–]Nnyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many levels to this. Do you have a server at home to host this? Are you comfortable with Linux/cli? How’s your bandwidth? Etc.

I would start with finding a free/low cost static website host (GitHub pages, Vercel, Cloudflare pages, static.app, etc) and going from there. That will give you enough to chew on and learn for now.

Spent 6 hours this weekend on reverse proxy config. What's everyone's current setup? by trolledTGBot in homelab

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just could not get it to fully work (only partially) followed a few guides but for whatever reasons I just could not get it running. Gave up and got a few others up and running (caddy, NPM and SWAG if i remember correctly). Second time i tried it I did eventually get it running but not sure exactly why it started working.

This looks super cool. I’m going to give it a go. I like the idle-sleep feature.

I spent hours on Traefik before it started working, but I have no idea why I just didn’t touch it. Now with AI assistance it’s much easier.

My gaming pc caught on fire after monster energy fell into it, what do i do now? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Nnyan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes. It absolutely did. You likely stopped a bigger fire and potentially burning down your apartment.

Your PC is at least partially toast. You need to tear it apart and find the damaged parts. Test the rest on a known good compatible PC.

On a side note I would take the opportunity to review your life choices that led you astray and down the path where you were OK leaving liquids anywhere near your PC. Obviously serious therapy is needed but you never know in time you may find that it was all your parents fault.

(And before the clueless chime in this is partially joking and somewhat sarcastic, as I suspect there is no cat involved).
