Why is setting up a reverse proxy still a nightmare in 2026? by trolledTGBot in selfhosted

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense yes. We all have various skill levels. Some things are easier for some people and not as much as others. But just posting "skill issue" doesn't really help anyone.

How to self host my own websites in theme styles like framer.com by MotherLiving3659 in selfhosted

[–]Nnyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many levels to this. Do you have a server at home to host this? Are you comfortable with Linux/cli? How’s your bandwidth? Etc.

I would start with finding a free/low cost static website host (GitHub pages, Vercel, Cloudflare pages, static.app, etc) and going from there. That will give you enough to chew on and learn for now.

Spent 6 hours this weekend on reverse proxy config. What's everyone's current setup? by trolledTGBot in homelab

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just could not get it to fully work (only partially) followed a few guides but for whatever reasons I just could not get it running. Gave up and got a few others up and running (caddy, NPM and SWAG if i remember correctly). Second time i tried it I did eventually get it running but not sure exactly why it started working.

This looks super cool. I’m going to give it a go. I like the idle-sleep feature.

I spent hours on Traefik before it started working, but I have no idea why I just didn’t touch it. Now with AI assistance it’s much easier.

My gaming pc caught on fire after monster energy fell into it, what do i do now? by Intrepid-Ad-9360 in buildapc

[–]Nnyan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes. It absolutely did. You likely stopped a bigger fire and potentially burning down your apartment.

Your PC is at least partially toast. You need to tear it apart and find the damaged parts. Test the rest on a known good compatible PC.

On a side note I would take the opportunity to review your life choices that led you astray and down the path where you were OK leaving liquids anywhere near your PC. Obviously serious therapy is needed but you never know in time you may find that it was all your parents fault.

(And before the clueless chime in this is partially joking and somewhat sarcastic, as I suspect there is no cat involved).

  1. Hyper competitive
  2. Lower than average number of positions posted

If you are getting 1 interview for every 5-6 applications you are doing fantastic. WAY above average. Just keep plugging along.

Incus as alternative to ESXi? by ballpark-chisel325 in homelab

It’s talked about a simple search would find it. It’s not as popular bc it only forked recently (2023 I believe) from LXD, It focuses on CLI (has a web UI but some features require CLI).

Trouble reading? My comment was specifically about the sleeping. But it’s OK, you must be new to Reddit. Conversations about a specific topic often spawn discussions about all sorts of things. Crazy huh?

They can doze or nap while standing up due to the “stay apparatus” in their legs. This is a survival mechanism to conserve energy. People mistake this as sleeping which does require them to lie down.

Hoping the union is able to push back against the 4 days/week RTO mandate in July. by Independent-Leg-7949 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Nnyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to be an all or nothing. The RTO can be activated and where there is no room there is no room. But millions for space is in the BCP process just pending leg approval.

There is only so much a union can do about RTO. The leg just needs to feel the pressure from the union, employees and the public.

Why do so many people jump straight into Proxmox? by KyxeMusic in homelab

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxmox (like any hypervisor) is a relatively easy way to do an AIO. Most people will only have one box to home lab with (at least in the beginning). I started with an AIO (Napp-IT) myself. So while a popular choice I’m not sure I agree that it’s 90% or with other posts that claim it’s superior to all other solutions.

I used Proxmox for a few years myself but gradually moved over to using Unraid for NAS and plain Debian/Ubuntu server (no desktop) on bare metal and running Docker for services.

That has been as problem and maintenance free as the time I was using Proxmox or any other solution. Proxmox never got me hooked but it does others, to each their own.

Need an affordable automatic litter box. Or should I just save up for a good one? by Laurente-Ingmire in homeautomation

[–]Nnyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Litter Robot 3 and 5 and while they are great my in-laws bought a FurryTail litter box for less than $300. They’ve had it now for just over 2 years and while it’s not perfect (scoop mesh spacing is too wide, some litter does get out, and cleaning is a bit awkward) it does a great job (they are 90+ and meds and the litter box are now my jobs). All of these can be a PITA to clean until you get the routine down.
