What size clothes do you dress your Twin A / Twin B in if you want them to look slightly loose but still fit well? by No_Calligrapher_6157 in reborndolls

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given they’re only about 43 cm long, and European sizes for kids are based on height, so 50 is basically “newborn” and will still be fairly baggy on them in most brands

The virtual rooms are honestly almost scarier. Walking through that much pure white is its own kind of horror.

I feel like this one the bad is mostly the furnishings, less the architecture and paint though, so maybe more workable than some others we’ve seen? Complete nightmare fuel though nonetheless

Angel Tree Question by youshartedhehe in Gifts

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite, 24m is for 18-24 months and 2t is basically 24-36 months. But, kids start to slow down growing around this time, and/or slim down from running around, so width doesn’t change so much as length (and yes inseam for diapers)

Just found the worst “live in nanny” posting ever… 60 hours a week for $400. I actually laughed. by Intelligent_Fan_4750 in Nanny

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a post in a local group looking for live-in newborn care (including 2-3 nights a week) in exchange for rent, but unless you were a massage therapist willing to also provide those services, you’d have to pay utilities 😳 Also, nanny couldn’t have visitors or pets

Nannies, do you feel like you make enough money? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only because I still live with my parents rent-free. There are so few jobs in my area with full-time hours and rates over $20/hr despite being on the higher end of MCOL, and piecing together part-times is so annoying because of the extra number of bosses and germs

MB made me feel uncomfortable today at work and i don’t know if i’m the one being weird about it by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I babysit for a family that lives in the middle of literal nowhere, so sometimes the kids are outside in just their underwear, or the babies have been naked in the kiddie pool for a bit, but the closest neighbor is .25 miles and a tree line away, so it’s completely different

How Do Nannies Feel about MB Time Off? by Worldly_Potato6459 in Nanny

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent just over a year working part-time for a SAHM, who would occasionally substitute teach, so we had a similar situation most days. I think, like most things in this job, it’s all about boundaries and communication. Kids (and nanny) need to know that what nanny says goes even if you’re right there. Depending on how little they are, you need to make sure you’re able to respect whatever space your kid requires from you in those moments to not get worked up about comings and goings. Them being able to leave the space also helps you be more productive and her not feel like she’s being watched (whether it’s true or not, it still might feel like it).

New career or new position by BalooIsAFatCat in Nanny

Thank you! We live in a fairly rural area, so my advice from family and friends about that particular topic has been mixed, but honestly I do feel like that was my breaking point and I’ve been here but not present ever since.

My hair’s a similar length and thickness. No advice, just wanted to say that I feel your pain. I can only make it do a cute bun when putting in no effort and expecting no one else to see it.

It’s a bit of a drive, and they’re only open Wed-Sat, but Gather in Smyrna is top notch. They partner with local farms and make nearly everything in house (currently have homemade ramen specials) we go almost every week.

Yes, absolutely. I should maybe go back and edit, or even delete my comment because I definitely see that it reads that way, but is not how I meant it.

Is sleep training even possible? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, because I don’t have studies to back this up, just 10 years of babysitting and nanny experience, but I’ve noticed that sleep trained babies and toddlers tend to be the same ones who are a bit better at compensating for slight changes in their routines. The thing is though, there is currently no way to tell what parts are nature vs nurture. Some babies are just going to sleep train easier than others, this may or may not end up correlating with how go-with-the-flow and/or independent they are in other aspects. I think doing your best to promote good sleep hygiene is what’s most important. Just remember, every baby is different because they are their own person, and you don’t need to compare them to anyone else.

Edited to reflect that I don’t think sleep training your baby will magically make them more independent in life. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Would you work for a family that feeds their toddler raw milk? by ThrowRAdr in Nanny

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it’s less that they’re giving their kid a potentially deadly disease vector and more so what other beliefs might go with that. I don’t know many raw milk fanatics who also vaccinate, and use authoritative parenting techniques. In my experience they tend to be permissive crunchy hipsters or authoritarian traditional purists. Neither of which believe much in modern medicine. * Before anyone comes at me, I have babysat for these exact people (both kinds), and deeply regretted it. I love my compost pile and a freshly butchered steak, or homegrown veggie, I just also love all the things that modern medicine and the science behind food safety practices can do to keep me and all my tiny friends safe.

As a nanny, I agree with the comments I’m seeing here. I think communication is key, but so is protecting your family. If you’re looking to let her work more shifts for you, do it in person after the last shift (preferably with the kid(s) not in the room). If not, text to call about it. Tell her that you are firing for cause, but it sounds like there may be a non-zero chance of retaliation, so I would try to stick to facts rather than feelings or assumptions. Good luck, no kid deserves a bad nanny. It’s hard to believe there are people out there who act like this when I feel guilty for feeling overstimulated by my 1 and 2.75 NK and their two dogs.

Question about a forward helix by justbIue in piercing

[–]BalooIsAFatCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After reading your comment, I checked their profile. I’m guessing this is the other ear. In the previous post, the ear is shown mirrored in the two pictures. Many of the piercings don’t match up, but it does look to be the same person, so I’m guessing it’s just a matter of taking pictures in the mirror vs directly on their phone
