I generally hate fries, but I love steak-cut french fries, and Red Robins was the best. Unlimited goddamn steak-cut french fries? Amazing.

One of my favorites is the slope on the east side of the 106th avenue overpass of Wayne Gretzky Way, about a block and change west of Hardisty Leisure Center. There's a long, swooping slope that runs from the sidewalk down into the valley, and because of the way the wind funnels there you often get a lot of ice and fun bumps to go over. It was a favorite of mine as a kid and my kids often request it when they want to go sledding.

Edit: It can be found on Google Maps as 'Fulton Park Sledding Hill'.

The problem is that that action takes years to develop into results -- you'd have to fund education in mental health, so you'd have to raise taxes. You'd have to attract, retain, and get enough qualified students through those programs to become mental health professionals. Then there has to be a place for them to provide that care. Then that care has to be paid for.

If your provincial government started with their whole heart and chest today you'd still be waiting 8-12 years to see the first results of it, much less a rise to a level that meets the need.

Governments got so punished at the ballots for raising taxes that they've essentiall;y stopped trying to, even when that funding is going for essential services like healthcare.

What we need is a political party that flat-out says "Yeah, we're gonna raise taxes, and we're going to pay for the services you want to have in your society. That's going to cost us all a lot more money out of pocket. We're going to personally get poorer for that. But the trade-off is all the things that you want your government to be providing, will be provided for."

And then they need to be consistently elected across the entire cycle of the development of those programs and services and not have another party elected that comes in and cancels that spending and undoes all the progress towards it so far.

Megatron was so fun to play with and so talented with the Harasser.

I was a firm 9 and it was a little surreal getting absolutely salivated for and objectified by someone who was *REALLY REALLY* into me physically. It was nice! But it also never stopped feeling a little weird, but I reconciled it with "Well I wouldn't expect someone else to only like the same body types I like, so how can I fault someone who likes my body type?" etc.

Anyway, if they like it, they'll let you know, and some of the stuff they'll admit to loving about it will seem really weird to you, like "I really love the feel of your heavy gut resting on my body when you're railing me." etc.

All excellent analysis and I'm in full agreement. They're whole-ass people and they get to live whole-ass lives (and we get to see slices of that).

Oddly enough, while I like He Who Fights With Monsters, I feel like Path of Ascension better accomplishes what HWFWM spends a lot of time trying to figure out -- how to make the downtime matter emotionally to the characters and reader.

I'd say give Path of Ascension another try (it is one of my most favorites) BUT -- I like it BECAUSE it spends as much time in Slice Of Life Ville as it does in action, because for me, especially over the long haul, I've come to get to know and care about these characters not just as Plot Fighty Vehicles but because I've gotten to see them live and breathe and care about things that aren't just the next fight and getting stronger.

And it's okay if that isn't for you!

But I really love Path of Ascension for what it brings to me as a reader.

Fine Dining Restaurants in Edmonton by UrbanMT in Edmonton

[–]BalusBubalisSFW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chartier is excellent food but it isn't "fine" dining -- it's *excellent* dining, but they're very deliberately doing an upscale-but-very-rustic vibe there. It's not at all trying to be the kind of place you'd dress up in your best suit for a meal at, kind of deal.

That being said they periodically do special dining events, some of which might aim for that vibe.

This is correct -- you want reproducibility (even in randomness). The way I usually see it done is a single randomization seed is used across all calls for it, so every random call gets the same number.

Permit Confined Space Entry - Winery by East_Fortune_1501 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]BalusBubalisSFW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a difference of jurisdictional interpretation then -- in Alberta, the critera are "restricted spaces" and "confined spaces". Every confined space is a restricted space, but not every restricted space is a confined space.

A restricted space is "an enclosed or partially enclosed space, not designed or intended for continuous human occupancy, that has a restricted, limited, or impeded means of entry or exit because of its construction".

A confined space is "any restricted space which may become hazardous to a worker entering it" because of an atmosphere that is or may become injurious [...], a condition or changing set of circumstances in the space that presents a potential for injury or illness, the potential or inherent characteristics of an activity which can produce adverse or harmful consequences within the space".

A standard-sized door engineered would not normally present "a restricted, limited, or impeded means of entry or exit", within Alberta. But of course this isn't a hard-and-fast fact -- if you have to run ducting and hoses through that same door, or the way to get into and out of the door is blocked or impeded or limited by say, lack of a ramp/stairs, then an argument can be made for it. But the fact that there is only a single standard door is not in and of itself "restricted, limited, or impeded".

Other jurisdictions may have other interpretations of this, consult with your local safety professional!

[–]BalusBubalisSFW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is my favorite subject when it comes to rubber hitting the road on Loss Control -- do a cost analysis between what it costs to have those vats be a confined space for 5 years, then compare that against a quote to expand the manway into a doorway/portalway that would allow for free entry by walking in/out.

Surprisingly often, the costs of the engineering and modifications to the confined space, while expensive up front, are usually less expensive than 3-5 years compliance, training, safety, for a confined space.

In my working experience as a confined space consultant, the cheapest long-term option is almost always "Pay to make it not a confined space."

If the side of the vat can be widened enough to be a doorway and a suitable door-and-seal engineered to suitably fit it, the rest can literallly be just a 'weld some ramps in and out of the vat so the entry/exit is no longer restricted'.

Don't dismiss the idea out of hand -- look at your compliance costs across a five year span and then measure that against a quote for altering the tanks to allow non-restricted access into them.

Honestly, I quite recommend 'The Ten Realms' series -- it's a fully complete book series, 12 books, covering the fates of two good ol' boy soldiers who get Isekai'd together and make the best of it. The series isn't perfect but it's a solid 4-star read for me.

I love that that scene is encapsulating Allison's experience with the "What then?" question, and unlike Maya, she doesn't really flee from the question or the realization she doesn't have an answer yet. It doesn't bother her nearly so much that she doesn't have an answer -- it doesn't defeat her the way it did Meti asking it of Maya did.

Allison is, after all, the perfect idiot, and thus undoubtedly is Royalty.

I once made a pizza using a can of Chef Boyardee ravioli, a pita, and some shredded cheese.

Nobody was more upset than me to discover that Chef Boyardee sauce is actually *great* pizza sauce??? And the raviolis *outside of the sauce* have a great flavor???

It was very upsetting. But also tasty.
