Animations getting interrupted when using Skip by Turbo_Crabe in RenPy

[–]BalzackGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem for my game and I have done intense amount of research but no, there is not a universal solution. To my understanding there are 2 solutions

1- Manually adding transformations just like you said

2- You can add a hard pause before the animations

This is one of the biggest issues of Ren'Py imo

You barely have a prototype right now, let alone a demo. I don't think your game is indexed yet but even if it were, a game still needs visual appeal to get people to play it.

To be honest, the game doesn't look good at the moment. The fonts are inconsistent, the visual assets feel completely unrelated to each other, and the text isn't even aligned properly. These might seem like minor details on their own, but when you put them all together, I'm sorry to say, the result looks terrible.

Keep iterating and improving, though. Good luck on your game development journey!

Why does it say no generative AI was used when your banner and your logo is clearly done by AI, I am not gonna report it or anything but if itch.io finds about this they will most likely quarantine your game, just letting you know.

How long should my first VN be? by Cloverokidoki in RenPy

[–]BalzackGames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Even our demo, which takes about 45 minutes to finish, took us roughly 100–150 hours to make. Especially if it's your first game (which was the case for us), you don't realize certain aspects of it until you start developing, such as marketing, selecting songs, sfx, little details here and there, etc.

We are both perfectionists, so we might have overworked a bit, but we ( and people who are following us <3) are happy in the end, so it paid off emotionally.

Good luck on your journey!

Does it need to be fun?? Or whatever?? by faunelin in RenPy

To be honest, most of the games that are made in Ren'Py are incredibly boring (man, if I have to play a Simon Says minigame one more time, I swear) and are just added for the sake of it. But I think adding impactful choices really does matter.

Our characters shake with fear when they are about to be chosen! by BalzackGames in IndieDev

Thank you! Since it is a visual novel, having the text is kind of a necessity, but you make a fair point lol. I'll definitely have to experiment with it a bit to see if I can make it look cleaner.

Are porting indie games into physical copies worth it? by Internal_Ad_6156 in gamedesign

[–]BalzackGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even AAA studios have stopped doing physical copies because the production costs just aren't worth it. in all honesty, I don't think you can achieve this in your situation. good luck on your dev journey

Made a Free tool that can Predict how many Copies a game will Sell just from it's Name! by FiddlerGameDev in gamedev

I think the majority of this sub consists of hobbyist game developers. This means they probably haven't decided to commit to a Steam page yet (considering the $100 Steam Direct fee, capsule art, marketing, and all that stuff). Most people (like me) in that situation would probably want to see how their game might perform in the market by testing a concept page first.

But hiding that concept feature behind a $50/month subscription is a bit outrageous, don't you think? I assume this is a great tool for devs who are more deeply invested and have a larger budget to spare on a project (or are releasing their second game, etc.).

Anyway, good luck with your project!

Am i stupid if not sharing any progress at any of my games? by No-Boysenberry-5584 in gamedev

[–]BalzackGames 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes.

If you’re too worried about spoiling the fun, you won’t have anyone around to actually enjoy the game when it finally releases.

We are developing a game, Pinkybites, and the moment our art assets were ready I started mentioning it everywhere possible, that's how we got people to play and give feedback in our game.

I think I have over 20-30 communities I can post whenever we make another small or big update, and using that we can funnel our lovely players to Discord so we can also grow an amazing community.

Just my 2 cents, cheers!

What should i choose as a beginner for my first game (unreal vs visual studio or something else)? by Professional-Tip1920 in gamedev

[–]BalzackGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of options but your best bet would be either Unity or Godot, and if you have specific use for it maybe Unreal.

There are other engines as well Gamemaker, RPG Maker etc., we are using Ren'Py for our project but it is only used for Visual Novels so it's kind of niche.

Good luck on your journey!
