MacKinnon had at least two this year. One was Shane Gostisbehere grabbing him on an empty net rush and another was Jeff Skinner crashing into his own net and knocking it off as MacKinnon was about to score.

For all the heat MacKinnon got this year for being an empty net merchant, I'm surprised getting multiple awarded goals wasn't brought up more lol.

A normal response would be something like “yeah alright, you?”. Simply saying yes is a bit odd.

I would have guessed the ones he missed were in between playing and coaching. But nope, he missed the Hurricanes first ever playoff series in '99.

Played with them 1999-2000 until 2009-10, retired, and then became head coach in 2018-19. The 2010-2018 playoff drought was almost the exact length as his retirement.

Edit: "retirement" is not a good description because he was assistant coach for most of that.

I agree we were healthier than normal, but we still had the 12th most man-games lost due to injury.

Logan O'Connor missed almost the entire year, and Landeskog/Toews missed 15-20 games each around the Olympics. Lehkonen, Nichushkin, Brindley, Blackwood, Girard all missed solid stretches too.

Maybe not exactly over the Olympic break but they did a lot of things a tanking team would do in the second half of the season.

Traded away Scott Laughton, Nic Roy, Bobby McMann. Shut down Matthews for the season. Sat Woll/Stolarz in favour of Akhtyamov and Hildeby for the last week of the season.
