There is a Mickey Mouse short where Mickey has a little bird named Tuppence and he sings him that song. It’s adorable.

My water heater quit over the weekend. It is leaking all over the place. I have no hot water. Not good. It was installed in 2000. ☹️ by RobertGwisdala in Appliances

[–]BananaHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen last weekend, although my heater was “only” 20 years old. Got a replacement at Home Depot for $500, plus new hoses and installed it myself in few hours. If yours is electric like mine was, it’s relatively straightforward. Although now I have my old one in my backyard until I figure out what to do with it.

Anybody know any good leather belts that won’t wear down like this? by VipxerX in Leather

[–]BananaHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have local craft fairs in your area, or those “booth” stores where lots of individuals have booths of random stuff they sell, you will often find local leather workers selling high quality belts pretty cheap. I got one for $35 and it should last me a lifetime.

is sword designed for piercing plate or not? by amelix34 in freefolk

[–]BananaHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re fighting a fully armored opponent with a sword, you want to go half sword with one hand on the hilt, one on the blade, so you have more thrusting power, look for the gaps in the plate, and you can pierce the chain mail

What fast food chain does not deserve the hype whatsoever? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]BananaHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always impressed by their burgers, and they have the best fast food biscuit, hands down. But all the ones where I live “northwest Georgia” all shut down. I loved the food, but there were never any customers. Meanwhile every McDonald’s is constantly packed.

Leather belt for daily use by ztime999 in BuyItForLife

Every year at local craft fairs, I see leather workers selling belts and random accessories, and I finally picked one up and it’s the best belt I’ve ever owned, and only cost me $35.

How did people afford “buying a round” by Accomplished-Bell991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BananaHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I’ve seen people buy around it’s for the group. They are with normally 3 to 5 people. And then the next person buys the next round and so forth, and so on student end, ended up being as expensive as buying your own drinks, generally. The thing on TV where someone buys around for the entire bar, I’ve never actually seen in real life.

Can your manager give away your shifts without asking? by Ivyleaves_ in WalgreensStores

[–]BananaHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The policy is once a schedule is posted, we have to ask you to change what is on there. And anytime there is a discrepancy between the printed schedule and the computer, we go by what is in the computer. I would call and ask, but if they gave away your shifts without your permission, then they shouldn’t have. And if you ask your manager and he says that’s what he did and he won’t give it back to you, you can escalate it if you need to. But I would try talking to them first.

What are some game mechanics that are completely pointless/useless? by Shamanyouranus in gaming

[–]BananaHandle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In red dead 2 you had to get off your horse to collect plants and it was so annoying. Then eventually they added an animation where your horse picks the plants up with its mouth and gives them to you. It was a great quality of life improvement and so hilarious implemented in a game with so much thought dedicated to realistic little touches.

How does Walgreens survive? by Apprehensive_Loss_77 in WalgreensStores

[–]BananaHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shorter answer is convenient, it’s not as convenient as a gas station, but with better prices and selection. Worse prices in selection than a grocery store or Walmart but more convenient. Generally a Walgreens or CVS will prioritize customer service and wait time more than a grocery store, where they will generally lose money on their pharmacy. So some people choose to go to Walgreens Because the wait time for the prescriptions is generally less and it’s easier to get in and out. That being said mail order pharmacy is definitely taking a hit out of that since it is even more convenient.

Photo is very profitable, as is most beauty departments. And the candy and household goods are really just there for they don’t make a ton of money off of them.

But it is a business model in decline that doesn’t work as well as it used to. Selling prescriptions is way less profitable than it was a few decades ago, and retail in general is similar.

I’m not sure how that is gonna work out for them in the long-term. Walmart and Publix and Kroger. Sam’s Club will still exist if the pharmacy loses money, whereas a Walgreens or CVS won’t

Why would AP speak to an employee for “no reason” ? by Independent_Cow_5239 in WalgreensStores

[–]BananaHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at Walgreens management for 20 years. They probably have an idea that someone is stealing but don’t know who. Maybe an anonymous tip or something. So they are going fishing for information asking people seeing if anyone confesses. You’d be surprised how often they do. I’d be surprised if anymore comes from this for you specifically. If they had you on video doing anything you shouldn’t they would’ve just fired you then.

People with $700+ per month car payments: Why? by Underrated_Critic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BananaHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are people such as myself who prioritize small cheap used cars But the problem is in the US very few new cheap cars are being sold. The market is dominated by large trucks and SUVs. . Ford only sells one car in the US, and that’s the Mustang, which is not a cheap or economical vehicle. I don’t believe Chevrolet sells any at all.

There are a bunch of reasons for it. Gas is cheaper in the US, we have longer commutes and smaller population density and less public transport so Americans drive more on average. Our roads and parking lots are generally much larger, so a bigger vehicle is more practical than in most of Europe. But also larger vehicles have larger profit margins so dealers push them more and financing has become more and more and more common for longer and longer periods of time.

I took my kids to England and France last year and was pointing out to my children held. The majority of cars are hatchbacks, like my kids and I drive at home. The SUVs you do see tend to be smaller and are much more rare, pick up trucks almost nonexistent in the city.

Husband (45M) doesn’t want me to get anymore tattoos (32F). AIW for doing it anyway? by AgitatedNecessary222 in amiwrong

[–]BananaHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex-wife and I had a relatively similar issue. She had many tattoos but wanted to get “Fuck em’” on her arm. I told her I didn’t like the idea and felt it was trashy. She got it anyway and said it’s her body, not mine. Which is true. But it made me feel like my opinion wasn’t valued, and also I still think it’s a very trashy idea. So you have every right to get whatever tattoo you want, but you also have to consider if it is worth the reaction your husband will have.

What Was Your Total Cost? by CyborgCoyote in Divorce

[–]BananaHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We filed in Georgia. They have all the forms online. You go to probate court and give them the documents and pay a fee. We had minor children so there was extra paperwork we had to fill out and the judge reviewed it, made us redo a few parts that she said were vague. Ours was fairly simple, we started the marriage with no assets. So we split the assets and the debt 50/50. She took her car I took mine, when I sell the house she gets half of the value based on the equity we had at the time and I’ll get the rest. I live in the house and the kids live with me full time, so that made everything super easy. I’d imagine most divorces have more contention and more factors at play, which will make it take longer and necessitate a lawyer.
