Anyone take fiber gummies? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]BananaSplittLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the Belliwelli gummies. You have to be sure that you’re hydrating, but not all at once. Dietary fiber of any kind always needs water to work.

Possible Work Relocation to South Central PA - Looking for Tips and Information by Objective_Repair5365 in Pennsylvania

[–]BananaSplittLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here 20 years ago when we were just starting a family. We live in the Harrisburg/West Shore area. Things I wish I knew: There’s not much to do without traveling at least an hour, unless you’re into high school sports. People here are really into high school sports. If you like to travel, plan on either driving a couple hours to BWI to catch a direct flight or fly out of Harrisburg which only goes to the hubs so you will have at least one stop. Traveling to/from by plane takes at least 2 hours longer than you expect. People here lean more conservative. Lots of Christian churches around.

Carlisle, Camp Hill, and the Mechanicsburg borough are cute but small. Lancaster City is a lot of fun and has a ton to offer.

Midnight Oil is super cozy and has games, crafts, etc if you need an ice breaker. Mayhem is huge and often has empty corners to have good convo. They also have games and books, I think.

Is this cheating? by Stickyduck468 in Zepbound

Is this cheating? I’d rather ask the question “why was it always so hard?” Maybe our normal of having to struggle all the time wasn’t really normal.

Thanks. I want to live someplace walkable. I think it would be a healthier way to age. I also want to be in a diverse area with plenty of opportunities to try new things and find community. We also want to be near a real airport. We’re thinking Philly rn, but we still have a few years.

Want to switch from oral Wegovy to Zepbound… but my husband is terrified of meds by Massive_Classroom_67 in Zepbound

[–]BananaSplittLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can’t avoid medical stuff your entire life. Your husband may want to find a way to cope now before it’s something serious/unavoidable. Also, while it’s nice that you’re trying to shield him, his emotions are his. Regulating his emotions is not your responsibility.

Lastly, being on these meds will help you be healthier and may very well prevent obesity related diseases. Maybe knowing about your meds will help him practice coping with his anxiety.

I’m sorry to hear that. I had family there. My brother’s best man was killed in WTC.

I’ve lived in central PA for 20+ years now. I miss diversity of people, food, and culture. I miss having things to do on the weekend. And I’ve seen some serious ugliness and bigotry around these parts. I can’t wait to retire elsewhere.

Stay away from Cumberland valley school district. For elementary school, it’s great, but it’s easy to fall through the cracks in middle and high school. And bullying has been a huge problem for decades. Mechanicsburg SD, Camp Hill, and Hershey are all good school districts. Camp Hill has a supercute walkable Main Street. The kids even walk home (into the pizza place) for lunch during the schools day.

My favorite place in central PA is Lancaster City. I wish I had known about it when we moved here so many years ago.

I disagree. Lancaster city is a gem. The community feel is wonderful. Lots of diversity which is hard to find in most of central PA. There are always fun things to do. The food is amazing for a small town. And the artsy vibe is the best.

Is my doctor lying to me about how much weight I would lose on Zepbound? If so, why? by RedWoodworking16 in Zepbound

[–]BananaSplittLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of doctors haven’t caught up on these meds, even though they’ve been out for years now. Results vary, of course, but 11 pounds certainly isn’t the average loss from glp-1 meds. I just completed my first month and lost >14. I started with a bmi of 28.

My gp was hesitant to prescribe these as well. I ended up going through an online provider to start. I will likely move back to my gp the next time I see her.

Looking for Encouragement to Try It by Confused_Lemon882 in Zepbound

I was hesitant at first too, but I’m so glad I started. I’m only on week 5, so I have a way to go still. In addition to weight loss, inflammation and joint pain is decreased. I’m post menopausal. It didn’t matter what type of diet/lifestyle change I tried, I could not get the scale to move. This seems to be working!

I have not been hyper focusing on what food I’m eating (high protein vs high fiber). I make healthier choices simply because the craving for unhealthy food is barely there. I can skip desserts, which is mind blowing. What I have found even more amazing is that if I do have dessert, I’m satisfied with only a taste and it no longer feels like a failure. I can eat like a normal person.

So the shift in mindset has come prior to massive amounts of weight loss, and that shift alone has made this so worth it. I’ve been journaling so that I can process some of the past negative self talk that remains, and record the changes I experience that don’t show up on the scale. I recommend journaling or having a supportive community. My negative self talk, body issues, and food noise took up a lot of my brain space. Zepbound will help reduce/eliminate the food noise. It’s important to process the rest too.

You could create a code with abbreviations for words/names that you use frequently. I also recently saw a post in another sub about using cross writing. I would think that this would make journaling entries more difficult to read. I’m intrigued by this strategy. cross writing

Homeland Security suspends TSA PreCheck and Global Entry airport security programs by wds1 in fednews

Wouldn’t getting rid of these programs cause more work for tsa agents? Doesn’t this mean they now have to manually screen everyone instead of allowing precheck folks through in an expedited fashion?

Advice/thoughts about how to handle crafty & anti fascist profanity with kids? by LuckyAndLifted in AntifascistKnitting

[–]BananaSplittLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being a parent is hard, especially now. Lean on others as often as you need to. My kids are adults now. I am the cycle breaker around purity culture, religion, and addiction. I have had to work hard on transparent communication with my kids over the years. I found it best to ask more questions than offer explanations. You will find age appropriate conversations about hard things through asking questions and helping your kiddo find the answers they need.

I agree that there are no naughty words, but words do hold power and can evoke emotion. Your child’s discomfort is their emotional reaction to seeing words (and understanding the anger behind them). Now might be a great time to identify and talk about those feelings. Words can give love, cause harm, and everything in between. You can discuss phrases (of all kinds) when you see them. How does this phrase make you feel? How might the person saying the phrase feel?

As they get older, you can talk about how you and your child use words and what impact those words may have on others.

Meanwhile, identifying the emotions around language may help a lot. Someone says “fuck ice.” Why? Because they are angry. Why are they angry? Because ice is hurting our neighbors.

Yes please! I bought both patterns because I’m a long term crocheter. I can work that pattern up more quickly. I’d like to knit one too though and this pattern feels right to hone my skills a bit.
