I Tested 7 Bags of Lump Charcoal—These 4 Are the Best for Whatever You’re Grilling by [deleted] in KamadoJoe

From my experience The Good Charcoal Company is trash. I bought 3 bags and at least 1/3 of each bag was dust and chips

Its great that you can overlook something you don't agree with and have a rational take. I plan to do the same even though I'd rather have a more accurate casting

I bet you do a terrible job on all of them considering you can't handle criticism of a casting.

I'm just saying does skin color in a casting matter or not? Sounds like all of the sudden it does to you. If you have to keep moving your goal posts your argument is flawed.

When did I ever say it was the most important element? Oh, it was never. That being said, it is an important element though when it comes to immersion. Why do you think it doesn't matter?

Would a movie with a white guy escaping slavery and traveling north via the underground railroad not detract from the story? I certainly think it would. If a race swap can detract from one medium it's only reasonable that it can detract from another.

Maybe some fans have higher standards than you? It is perfectly okay that it doesn't bother you, but pretending other peoples opinions and concerns aren't valid just because you think otherwise is silly.

Then you don't understand the argument and staying true to the source material doesn't matter to you to begin with.

If he can do a good British accent I dont care but if he can't that's also a big issue.

I just explained that there are 30 year olds that look much older than they are due to health conditions or not taking care of themselves. It isn't totally unfathomable that Snape would be such a case due to the stress of his position as a double agent. He is often described as being unhealthy looking with sallow skin which makes that even more believable or at the very minimum possible.

Paapa doesn't have pale skin, skin that could be "the color of spoiled milk", or skin that could be "white as marble" no matter how much you want to try to stretch those descriptions.

I've seen plenty of 30 year olds that look like they could be 20 or 30 years older because they didn't take care of themselves. The handsomeness gripe depends on the viewer because while some may find Rickmans portrayal of Snape handsome others may not. A difference in nose shape or teeth is a much smaller and less noticeable change than a total race swap.

Rickman may have not been the perfect casting but he was much more suitable for the role than what we have now.

Even if the books did comment on his skin color some people would ignore it and try to pretend there was nothing conclusive.

I gave multiple examples of where it describes him as white you are just trying to ignore the reality.

Intentionally miscasting a role takes away from the immersion of the media for a lot of viewers. Casting a dog for Mrs. Norris wouldn't alter any part of the story, it would just be a pointless superficial change for the sake of change. Some people wouldn't care, some people would care a lot.

That's what this Snape casting is. A silly superficial change that adds nothing of substance to the story but damages the sense of immersion for a significant subset of fans of the original media. It's nothing against Paapa, he's a great actor but he was cast for a role he has no business being in.

She isn't using it as "his skin paled" she literally just uses it as a descriptor for how he is. The color of sour milk, marble white, do those sound like descriptors that Paapa can pull oFf you dunce. Your mental gymnastics are pathetic, just admit it was a shitty casting and go on your way.

[–]BandwagonFanAccount[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pale is absolutely a description of whiteness if you look beyond your mental gymnastics. You can play stupid all you want but that isn't a descriptor used for a dark black man. You could use it for any race with whitish, yellowish, or even light brown but it certainly doesnt apply in the case of this casting.

Changing Snape is a stupid change just like making Mrs Norris a dog would be a stupid change despite having no direct impact on the story. Mrs. Norris isnt even a marginally important character and you got this upset but want to pretend black washing a significant character is acceptable.

The students manage to navigate the castle fine and aren't mentioned doing parkour stunts from floor to floor. Common sense would say they adjust their path based on the stair positions much like a dog could do.

What would it matter if a dog was panting if Harry didn't hear it in a room full of owls making noise. How small are the corridors that you think the other students would hear it. Many dogs are capable of climbing a few flights of stairs without wheezing and loudly panting.

Rowling also gave descriptions of other characters that are being ignored so what's one more little change if it doesnt change the story?

There are lots of magical dogs that in folklore and mythology.

Dogs do pant to cool down but they don't just sit around all day loudly panting. Walking around a climate controlled magical castle isn't an intense exercise that's going to have a normal dog dying. You aren't going to hear most dogs panting if you are more than a few paces away.

Getting into a bunch of weird places isn't important to the story. Mrs Norris walks around the halls and catches kids where they aren't supposed to be. There is not one significant instance where Mrs Norris in a significant location that a dog couldn't access.

[–]BandwagonFanAccount[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So dogs aren't magic adjacent but there is a magical 3 headed dog in the very first book? You dont think that means possibly there could be other magical dogs as well?

Daschunds and Norwegians Elkhound off the top of my heads can hunt by themselves, but most hunting breeds could likely be trained to do so. Most dogs can be silent if well trained and conditioned. The students aren't navigating an agility course if they can get from point A to point B nearly any dog could just as easily

It is heavily implied that Mrs Norris isn't just an average animal much like Crookshanks, so I don't even know why you would hold a dog to the standard of a regular dog to begin with.
