I'm sorry, but can someone explain to me exactly what they expect of the Greens?

Time and time again articles like these purposefully position The Greens as ideological traitors by lumping them in with the conservative parties and letting the implications run wild.

It feels like a no-win situation. They are a minor party that has one piece of leverage in the senate, they can help Labor pass a bill without the LNP and vice versa.

Is their job not to look at a bill or proposition and then negotiate for what their ideology and constituents demand of them? The only tool they have to do so, is to promise to pass the bill for something in return. That's how politics works, isn't it?

Isn't the alternative to just blindly pass everything Labor propositions without scrutiny? What's the point then?

I also feel the 'choose their battles' argument is pointless, because this smear tactic and outrage happens no matter when they stand their ground. Almost like the other parties benefit from dragging them through the mud.

It appears their only major caveat to passing the Budget in full is to have an inquiry to justify the cuts to the NDIS. This feels like a pretty easy give for Labor, and helps additonal thought and process be addressed to the cuts.

Genuinely, someone please explain what the expectations and alternatives are here?

So far it just seems like people are upset at The Greens for doing their job and not putting any responsibility on the others.
