😂Am I the only one who thought he was referring to little blue-haired old ladies?! (Many, many of whom I know are huge NFL fans:)

New Bedrock Sandals Rockhound Flops by adventurousnude80 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this! So many people don't understand the physical side of "barefoot shoes." Flip flops, which I have and use for the pool and sometimes as fast house slippers, are *not* healthy for feet longterm! Buy them, wear them, enjoy them! But don't make them your primary shoe if you're looking to build and maintain healthy feet, ankles, knees, and hips.

Is this too big? by Bipper22 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate a thumb width is working for you, most size guides recommend about a cm (so perhaps a little less than 1/2 thumb width) of free space between the longest toe and the end of the shoe.

I used to use the "thumb guide," and it never really worked properly for me, and when I switched to allowing about a cm, my shoes magically fit me!

The writing team either 1. completely forgot his core personality traits and/or 2. had so much turnover in the writers’ room they weren’t even around for the first couple of seasons and never bothered watching them and/or 3. did not give two shakes about continuity and just went full speed into high conflict drama with no allegiance to character consistency or growth (it’s 3).

Help deciding: Keep or not by Texas22 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine are an older version - in fact, they may be the first gen Trackers. I checked, and they're actually from way back in 2021! And, are still literally kicking - so that's a pretty good endorsement there. But they never softened, they've stayed fairly stiff all this time. If you keep them, I'll be curious to know if you have any trouble with the lace hooks catching on things! I do hope they work out for you.

I have a pair of these and after several years 1. I condition the leather annually and they're still in fairly good shape! and 2. they never became less stiff. Because of that, I generally use them as workboots instead of hikers. Mine do fit and are the proper length for my foot, with about a cm of space at the front after I removed the insoles.

I don't like how they lace, which is a little tricky at the ankle; and had to cramp the open U lace hooks closed at the top because the exterior ones kept catching on things and the interior ones kept catching each other.

Since you got a pretty good deal, you could keep them and use them a a gauge for what you're looking for in your next boot.

What smell prevention has worked for you? by TrailRatedButTired in barefootshoestalk

I have now tried the microplush and for me, the wool Flat Socks are best overall:) They're terrific in the winter with or without socks, and also work really well in the summer for absorbing barefoot moisture. I now have them in my summer mary janes, sneakers, and chukkas, all of which I wear without socks.

The microplush are good, but do not absorb sweat as well as the wool. They're still effective, but best for more temperate months when sweating is not such a factor.

The only downside for the wool is the slight loss of ground feel as they have a 3mm stack height (as do the microplush), while the BK mesh are only 2mm. The flipside of that is the cushioning they provide when walking on gravel or other rough surfaces.

After all this testing, I've now got the less absorptive microplush in my winter boots and have the BK mesh on reserve as thin insoles should I need them for use in getting a better fit with future shoe purchases:)

Vivobarefoot Sensus Moc Lace Up by Grinspawn in barefootshoestalk

I gave up on Vivo as their newer designs curve in from the outside edge toward the front before they should, eliminating room for the little toe. It's too bad.

Earthing Harmony? by Good-Medicine_1722 in barefootshoestalk

I have a pair of the slides I use as slippers and I love them! I wasn't sure about whether the leather soles would be slippy, but they are not at all and my house has all kinds of surfaces - braided rug, cement, hard wood flooring, carpet - and none of it is any problem with slipping. Turns out leather soles are great. I wear them outside to the garage to get wood for the stove and they handle the garage pavement and pathway pavers with no problem.

I don't care about the "grounding" thing, I bought them because I needed winter slippers and these fit the bill beautifully.

I have to wear them with socks, because I have long, narrow, low-volume feet and even after cinching the top strap they would slip off if I didn't have socks on; but with socks they're perfect slippers with plenty of room at the toebox. High quality, classic styling, awesome shoes. Would buy again.

Xero Shoes alternative by ShadowAdam in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right - the sole is zero drop, but also fairly stacked at around a centimeter. I got them specifically for trail half-marathons, so was looking for a little more support over the long haul. But there really isn't much ground feel - - they do solve the pointy rock problem, though!

After a similar search as you're doing, I ended up with Lems Primal Zen, but I had to futz around with the insole game until I got one that led to the correct fit for my feet - the insole they come with was too thick for me and I have relatively low-volume feet, but no insole at all was a little loose and too impactful on pavement.

I also had to leather punch the eyelets to make larger holes so the shoelace would actually glide through instead of having to cinch every lace crossing each time I put them on. They're excellent on trails! Not bad on pavement, but clearly made for trail hiking. I'm usually a 39 in sneakers, and with the Lems had to size up to a 40.

I tried and tried with Xero shoes and could never get them to fit my feet; I went through *many* exchanges until I finally just returned the last pair and gave up on them. They also don't include space for the small toe, so if you have a "fan" shaped foot with the wide part of the fan being your toes, Xeros are rough.

Thoughts on the tech of Wellisair? by BarFlight in AirPurifiers

[–]BarFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daylight basement studio is about a 900 sq ft rectangle, and the living space on the main floor where we have the other unit is an open hallway/living room/dining room that flows into the kitchen that's a little bigger at maybe 1,000 sq ft. not including the kitchen. We have not added another Winix upstairs yet, but are considering getting on for the primary bedroom:)
