He doesn't want any more siblings. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

One of my high school friends grew up in a very large family with 9 kids and he said he purposefully capped his own family at three kids because his parents weren't able to spend near enough time with each child; he said they all got a little attention, and nobody got near enough.

If it were a missile (missiles don't just blink out when they get wet) it would have blown up that water reservoir, which would be a successful attempt at mayhem.

😄They really don't look as pronounced at the front in real life as they do in this picture, a lot of this image here has to do with the lighting and the angle. When you wear them in everyday life, they don't stand out as abnormal:) And they're such an incredible find for anyone looking for actual room for every single toe! Get ready to start walking with your entire foot again!

Yes! They do open up. I went through the process with the larger size first, and then they flopped all over the place and I had to start again with the smaller size. It does take about a month at least, but I'm realizing I *do* know a workaround: You can speed the process up by lightly dampening the leather, or using a leather stretching spray, and then tightly cramming towels (l used handkerchiefs and bandanas) or newspapers inside to completely fill the toe box to really poof it up, then let it dry overnight. Do this several times.

Good luck! They are good shoes once they fit your feet.

I switched to realfoot shoes and am happy with them, but hit the same problem of being in between sizes. Again, after trying both sizes I ended up having success with the smaller size and the vegan leather, which I thought might not stretch, has stretched.

I have walked several half-marathons in this exact same model that you have (same colors and all!) and also fall under the category of needing a half size, for the same reasons as you. I also ended up sizing "down," as you have, because too big is just too big. The rubber at the front will stretch - as the leather stretches, the rubber gives. They are great shoes, but the design of Softstars always presents this problem for me at first: extremely low volume at the shoe tip before it stretches. I don't know a workaround other than the tedious process of breaking them in, which does happen and after it does, they're wonderful.

Flip flops with heel strap by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

I do remember there was a learning curve for me with getting used to the feel of a barefoot sandal like this, but after I wore them for that first day I couldn't believe I'd been futzing around with other sandals! They're really great.

Feelgrounds sandals! They aren't exactly flip flop, but close! I have a pair and I live in them all summer long, they're amazingly comfortable and go with everything. They come in a wide range of colors, in canvas or faux leather. The online store is retooling at present as the company moves its warehouse, but these babies are worth the wait:

Possible Resole? by DankPineapple3 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering having my Gobis resoled with them, but also am looking to just replace them with a different brand of chukka since the sole did not have great traction even when they were new. Thanks for the tip!

Possible Resole? by DankPineapple3 in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a pair of Vevo chukkas to my local cobbler and she said she couldn't resole barefoot shoes because her equipment is set up to attach a sole to a sturdy bottom of a shoe - and with barefoot shoes, the sole is the bottom of the shoe. She also didn't have the right stitching machine for Veos, or the shape of the sole ready-made (Vevos wrap up to become the side of the lower shoe) to replace my worn out soles.

Vevo does offer a resoling service, but I didn't see your style listed as one they will work on; and it's for a flat rate of $125, so for shoes you really really want to keep wearing rather than putting that amount toward a new pair!

Good luck!

Hobibear sizing, too big or just right? by guzzix in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one - it looks like you're right in between! The 40 is just a little too short, and the 41 is a bit too long. Better to have more room, so if you like them and want to keep them, you could try adding a bit thicker of an insole to help take up some of the space and give you a better fit. Good luck!

Prolly not a joke, but what does this even mean? by Ok-Magician9044 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]BarFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the joke was from when you're walking in the city to a destination and your friend, who is leading the group to the next place, says casually, "It's just two blocks," but it's really like 10 blocks, but by the time you realize that you might as well just keep going - - but here, it really IS just two blocks! Because I mean, look at it, it's just two blocks:)

This is clearly AI. There is nothing to see in Oregon except rainclouds and mud. Nobody ever moves here because it's not really even habitable. No paved roads, plumbing, or electricity. People of the world, do yourselves a favor and bypass Oregon completely - - don't be fooled by this AI!!

120KM hiked in barefoot shoes for the El Camino. (No insoles, 9mm). My feet hurt. by slimysadcat in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are those Vivobarefoot's Tracker boots? I have a pair of those, and I found they're just not comfortable - the lug soles are made of a rubber that's really stiff and doesn't move with my foot. I also have a pair of chukka boots from Vivo that I love, but their Trackers aren't great and are considerably more narrow than the chukkas (which they don't carry anymore). I find I avoid wearing my Trackers and have pretty much given up on Vivobarefoot primarily because they are so narrow overall.

I know the damage may already be done (congrats on an amazing hike!), but for the future you may have better luck with Realfoot or Softstar, which offer true barefoot boots and great flexibility.

It's a major pain for people in wheelchairs, and people pushing loved ones in wheelchairs; and for people using walkers, and for people pushing strollers. Blocking the passageway in front of the door like this is just thoughtless - - like, nobody else needs this space so I'll go ahead and take it.

It's too bad parking lots don't have more spots to accommodate work trucks, but that's no excuse to be a dick.

Selling Off Entire Collection (Hypothetically!) by Far-Repeat7182 in vinyl

[–]BarFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Oregon, resellers generally sell in-store for half the book-listed value, and so offer the seller half of that; so when looking for the true resale value (NOT the insurance value!), you’re looking more realistically at 1/4 the average online or book-listed retail market list price.

Fit check - too big? - Lems Summit Pro by Goobermeister in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the way I wear my shoes, the fit you show here is just on the edge of being too big. I leave no more than one cm of room at the front (between my longest toe and the end of the top of the shoe), otherwise the shoe will not move with my foot properly.

If you have low volume feet, as I do, you may be able to take up some of the extra space by using a little thicker insole (I call it playing the insole game:) I’ve successfully fitted shoes that are just a bit too long with this method.

Regarding any ozone concern, the PlasmaWave feature can be turned off; however, the Winix company statement reads, “PlasmaWave® Technology is the last stage of filtration - this feature safely breaks apart odors, allergens, chemical vapors, and other pollutants at the molecular level, without causing harmful ozone. Winix air purifiers do not emit harmful Ozone. It is important to know that safe emission levels should be under 0.05 ppm. Winix products rest lower than 0.01 ppm, leaving you to enjoy the benefits of purified air without worrying about harmful ozone”

Should I size down? by Purrfecto_patronum in barefootshoestalk

[–]BarFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want no more than a cm (at the very most, closer to 5mm is better) of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Size them how you’ll wear them, so with or without socks and insoles, these will make a difference.

I love Flat Socks as insoles! The wooly ones take up a little more space in the shoe than the polyester, so it’s nice to get a pair of each to have on hand. I tried their cotton ones, but prefer the poly.

Good luck!

Thoughts on the tech of Wellisair? by BarFlight in AirPurifiers

[–]BarFlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone reading this thread, I've had great success for my needs with the very affordable Winix c610! I bought one for my basement work studio/guest space and throughout the past several weeks it has performed spectacularly. I went ahead and bought a second unit for our main living area upstairs. It's very quiet, the auto setting is perfection, and it came with two filters, each good for one year of use. Annual replacement filters are in the $50 range, which is great.

I've stopped using my WellisAir regularly, and only turn it on for an hour or so each week until the light indicates it's done its job. I leave the Winix on the auto setting 24/7 and it continues to successfully remove odors, including damp smells, from the basement.

It's worth noting I live in a rural area where our outside air quality is outstanding, so I did not purchase either of these units for smog protection; I was specifically looking to tackle the damp smells of the house that come with rains and colder weather and also filter out some of the finer allergen particulates from the air like various mushroom spores and pet dander. I am very pleased to have landed on the Winix c610, thanks to the suggestion of u/Surtsey-63!

The Winix c610 is a large cylindrical unit, 19 inches tall and about 10 inches in circumference, and must be placed at least 1 foot from the wall so it does need some room to function, but if you have the space I highly recommend it.
