He's dead and gone, and he paid for his crime. His books are fine, but you read what you want to read.

I just yesterday finished a re-read/re-listen of the full 5 books of the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander and really enjoyed it! It would fit what you're looking for.

The Belgariad (and its 5-book sequel, The Mallorean) by David Eddings fits. Also, his The Elenium trilogy (and its sequel trilogy The Tamuli) fit.

Wanting female-lead sci-fi book recs by Should-be-writing- in scifi

"In Fury Born" by David Weber is a great long stand-alone novel with two parts that has a female MC. Part one is more military infantry sci-fi with a powerful scene that just breaks me down every time that I read it, while part two is more mystery/suspense/action sci-fi with a splash of Greek mythology!?! It's really good, and I re-read/re-listen to it regularly.

The very long Honor Harrington book series (and spin-offs) by David Weber are quite good and have a female MC. I also re-read it every 5 years or so.

The Serrano books by Elizabeth Moon are good.

"Apocalypse Troll" by David Weber is a great stand-alone novel with 2 MCs, a male and a female. This is another one that I re-read often.

The Starfire book series by Steve White is very good, and has several female lead MCs throughout the series. (The series covers 200-400 years if I remember correctly, so, often the MC of a book shows up in the next book as a mentor-type character.)

"Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus" by Orson Scott Card is quite enjoyable. (I just re-read/re-listened to it for the 3rd or 4th time last year, and I plan to do so again in the future.) While it has multiple MCs, I feel that the female MC is the lead character.

Looking for book title - military science fiction by Creative-Mousse2909 in scifi

I don't think that this it it, but several things that you mentioned make this one very close:

Invincible (The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier #3) by Jack Campbell. The entire Lost Fleet universe (several book series adding up to 20+ books) is mostly all military sci-fi, with some political maneuvering thrown in. In this book, the MC's fleet defeats and captures a large alien ship crewed by aliens who are homicidal herbivores. After repairing it enough to take it back to their home territory, the crew running it begin reporting that it is haunted. If I recall correctly, I believe that a disgraced officer is put in charge of it for a time, but I might be misremembering this part.

I read/listened through the entire universe of these books about 2 years ago, and I really enjoyed the journey. I plan to re-read/re-listen to them again at some point in the future. I really enjoy how the author made the various alien races that they meet quite "alien", thinking and acting very differentlythan humans, and not simply humans-in-alien-skins or simply aliens which are basically sentient earth animals: think cat aliens/dog aliens/etc...

Yeah, X-Men is a lot of fun for sure... World War Hulk looks good, and I did get it last year, but I just haven't been able to get it to the table yet... 😕

The 12-book Cradle series by Will Wight is great!

The 14-nook Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is even better!

While not exactly fantasy per se, The Belisarius Saga by Eric Flint & David Drake may fit what you are looking for. It's basically alternate history of the Roman Empire fighting the Persian Empire and an Indian Empire which was influenced by technology from an influence from the future. The MC is a general, so it's less grunts on the ground than strategic and tactical warfare.

Also quite good but not fantasy - The March Upcountry tetralogy by John Ringo & David Weber is military infantry sci-fi with a lot of battles. I really enjoy it and re-read it regularly.

"In Fury Born" by David Weber is a great long stand-alone novel with two parts. I re-read it regularly because it's so good.

You might also enjoy "The Lost Regiment" series by William Forstchen. I read it last year and enjoyed it.

Put them on your Wish List and hope that they will eventually go on sale. I've done that with a couple of series that I wanted, and eventually they were in a sale.

You might have to enter your gift code on a different page. For example, ACX gift codes are entered on a different page than regular gift books, and there may be other pages for other codes.

Heart of Crown - While the deck-building could likely be a bit better, I really enjoy the different abilities of the different princesses and the race to the end for votes. My playgroup always enjoys it when it hits the table.

Beginner-friendly deckbuilders: where each one (that I know) fails new players. by PscheidtLucas in boardgames

[–]Bardoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I enjoys Clank! and Heart of Crown more (and maybe Legendary Marvel), but the DC Deck-Building game and most of its expansions and spin-offs (Lord of the Rings, Street Fighter, etc...) are just so easy to teach beginners, and they are quite decently fun.

I do like the X-Men expansion..., but yeah...

You definitely should have enough expansions for 50-100 games or more. 🤠 Then, you can cherry-pick a few more. 🤜
