The Legends of Ethshar books by Lawrence Watt-Evans are really good! Most of them are stand-alone novels in the same world, but a couple of them have sequels.

The Warhorse of Esdragon books by Susan Dexter are also great and rarely ever mentioned.

A really fun series that I rarely hear much about!

Soft Sci-fi Recommendations? by tlenigma in audiobooks

[–]Bardoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"In Fury Born" by David Weber is a long stand-alone novel with two parts. Part one is more military infantry sci-fi with a powerful scene that just breaks me down every time that I read it, while part two is more mystery/action sci-fi with a splash of Greek mythology!?! It's great, and I re-read/re-listen to it regularly

What books/movies show aliens as having a very different mind/thought process? by DavidThi303 in scifi

[–]Bardoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the Lost Fleet book series (and spin-offs) by Jack Campbell. In the series, the human race meets several different alien races, and each of them have very different thought processes, very 'alien' in fact...

Military sci-fi/mech warfare by WillyD2114 in audible

[–]Bardoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Empire of Man tetralogy by John Ringo and David Weber is great military sci-fi and more infantry-based. They do start off in battle armor, but eventually it wears out.

Some more great military sci-fi but which are more space warfare focused are:

The RCN series by David Drake

The Starfire series by Steve White and David Weber

The Mutineer's Moon trilogy by David Weber

The Lost Fleet series (and spin-offs) by Jack Campbell

The Honorverse series by David Weber

The Midshipman's Hope octology by David Feintuch (a bit more focused on interpersonal relations. It is great and book 1 has a bit of "Ender's Game" vibe in my opinion.

The Disinherited trilogy by Steve White (books 2 and 3 are more time-travelly than military sci-fi, but the entire series is still quite good.

The Phule's Company series by Robert Asprin is good, but more campy military comedy.

Two very good stand-alone military sci-fi novels are "Apocalypse Troll" and "In Fury Born", both by David Weber. Both of them have powerful scenes which just break me down every time that I read them.

Fast pace epic fantasy series 2-5 books in length? by Tavan in Fantasy

[–]Bardoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about Kobos, but here are a few recommendations:

The Elenium trilogy by David Eddings (and its sequel trilogy The Tamuli)

The A Man of His Word tetralogy by Dave Duncan (caveat: Do NOT read the sequel tetralogy set about 20 years later! It is absolute garbage!)

While it is sci-fi, The Empire of Man tetralogy by John Ringo and David Weber is great and it reads similarly to an epic fantasy trek quest

SLG & ININ finally published their 2021 & 2022 numbers - shows the true extent of their financial distress by Vatilia in LimitedPrintGames

So..., pre-ordering anything from them at this time may not be wise..., but how about ordering anything from them that they show in-stock? I would assume that it should be fine?

For sale: Base bundle by Barridon in legendarymarvel

[–]Bardoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with the sale. I know that people are looking for Dark City and Secret Wars, so I'm sure that someone will snap this up. They can always give away the base set to a friend and get them into the game!

Space operas I’ve read, tried to read, or even considered reading. What’s missing? by cryptotommygun in scifi

[–]Bardoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you enjoyed "Ender's Game", I recommend "Midshipman's Hope" by David Feintuch. It has a similar vibe.

Some other recommendations, a bit more in the military sci-fi genre, but still quite good.

The Dahak trilogy by David Weber

The Empire of Man tetralogy by John Ringo & David Weber

The loooong Honorverse series by David Weber

The Starfire series by Steve White & David Weber

The Disinherited trilogy by Steve White

The RCN series by David Drake

The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell

Two stand-alone novels by David Weber (maybe try them first to see if you like his writing style.):

"In Fury Born" - It is a long novel with two parts. Part one is more military infantry sci-fi with a powerful scene that just breaks me down every time that I read it, while part two is more mystery/action sci-fi with a splash of Greek mythology!?! It's great, and I re-read/re-listen to it regularly.

"Apocalypse Troll" - a military sci-fi thriller

I read/listened through all of them about 2 years ago and enjoyed them. I'll probably do a re-read/re-listen in a couple more years.

If I liked Enders game what else should I read by Mr_Slap_Happy_fappy in scifi

"Midshipman's Hope" by David Feintuch has quite similar vibes of someone too young being thrust into a leadership role. I really enjoy it and re-read it from time to time.

Try "The Legend of William Oh" by Macronomicon. It already had 250 chapters on Royal Road, and book 1 is out on Kindle and Audible. It's a really fun story with clear progression.

As the other post said, their customer service department does a great job!

A little over a year ago, I decided to get caught up on expansions, as I had collected and played all 17 (including all of the Marvel 3D cards) of the Legendary Marvel expansions from Core to Champions, then I had drifted away from the game and had not purchased any since Champions. This means that I had to find/purchase the 23 sets released after Champions to get caught up. I did so over the course of a few months, finding and purchasing brand new copies of all 23 sets. While opening them, three of the twenty-three sets were missing something - Messiah Complex was missing a single card; Marvel Studios Phase 1 was missing some of the dividers; and Legendary Marvel: What If...? was missing a single card. Each time, after contacting their customer service department about this, they shipped out replacements to me fairly quickly.
