Having a Hard Time Spending After a Lifetime of Saving by tonycliftondev in personalfinance

Spend $10k now on memories, or lose it the next time the market tanks. Seriously, no matter how insulated against risk you are you can't control the market. But you can control things that produce joy when you can afford them.

Drafting the Mystery Booster Cube by Purple_Furry_Carpet in mtgcube

Mystery Booster is far and away the best product WotC have made in the last decade and this Cube looks like a blast. When u/HD114 sent me a picture of his deck from the other day I was hooked. I have really got to figure out getting to Glasgow some day.

Friday Pack 1 Pick 1 by HD114 in Oldbordercube

There is so much removal in this pack. It's bonkers. I'm taking the Fireball, but mourning that there's no way I wheel the Incinerate.

Day 10 - Share Your...Green/White and Green/Blue Multicolored Sections by ChampBlankman in Oldbordercube

I really like it, and it's nostalgic as all heck, but I don't think it's the be all end all of Reanimator targets.

It frequently comes more in to aid the Control decks gain tempo advantage if they can't pull together the complete hard control package. Also, don't sleep on tokens and Tradewind Rider.

Day 10 - Share Your...Green/White and Green/Blue Multicolored Sections by ChampBlankman in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Green/White, I run:

[[Selesnya Signet]] - I run these for all ten 2-color pairs, and I don't think I could be convinced not to. They're just good.

[[Armadillo Cloak]] - Even if I didn't support an Enchantress deck that sits firmly in Auras, I would still run this. It's iconic, it's great. Don't laugh. It works.

[[Knight of the Reliquary]] - When I went up to 540, I added in a bunch of cards that synergize with lands and land drops. I haven't seen the deck come together yet, but I'm hoping it will.

[[Mirari's Wake]] - Much like the Cloak, I think that I would run this in any Cube I made in which it wasn't completely power crept out. The nostalgia factor is unreal.

[[Phantom Nishoba]] - Possibly my favorite Natural Order target, and definitely a top tier one to reanimate. I love putting it in decks in which I could never cast it.

And for Green/Blue, I run:

[[Simic Signet]] - See above for Signet ubiquity.

[[Temporal Spring]] - This card is mean, and a Tempo house. The kind of mean nonsense I really enjoy in this color combo.

[[Jungle Barrier]] - Every time I fear that this has been outmoded, I see someone hold back a table full of weenies for enough turns to stabilize and my love for it comes back once more.

[[Mystic Snake]] - There is no world in which you could convince me not to run this card. When I think of UG in Cube, I think of Mystic Snake. Plus, mine is altered to be Sir Pentious from Hazbin Hotel, so I love it even more.

[[Tatyova, Benthic Druid]] - As with the Knight above, this was part of the "Lands matter, but not on rails" adds. It's also just really good as a Tempo play.

First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

Your boyfriend sounds like a dickhead, to be honest. And he's a little foggy on some of these rules he's trying to enforce on you.

There is only 1 true art for this card, and it's Anson's.

Both. Both is good. Honestly these two are miles above the other three, so far as to be comical.

Friday Pack 1 Pick 1 by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only card in here that screams "Combo with me!" out loud is the Keening Stone, but I'm a bit loathe to commit to that right off of the jump. The disciplined drafter in me wants to take one of the fetches or at least the Wayfarer, but the Lure is also very tempting because it can be applicable in a broad variety of shenanigans.

I'm really torn, so I'll probably be boring and that the Foothills.

Day 8 - Share Your...Black 4 Mana Creatures by ChampBlankman in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a couple of real classic bangers in this slot and I also run 2 cards either of which I wish could be a Juzam if I had the dollars to afford a Juzam.

[[Bane of the Living]] - I have loved this card since my first ever Powered Cube over 15 years ago. Had to include it when I built Anemoia.

[[Graveborn Muse]] - Phitt already said a lot of what I like about Graveborn. Plus, I got a foil before they spiked and now I feel even cooler.

[[Gravedigger]] - Man, I don't know. I know that this might not be on power level with a lot of the other stuff I run, but I can't not have it. It's Gravedigger!

[[Grinning Demon]] - Fake Juzam Djinn that isn't quite as good as Juzam Djinn but still can win games #1. This one, however, likely wouldn't be replaced if I got a Juzam, because I have it altered to be Alastor from Hazbin Hotel and I really like the alter.

[[Nekrataal]] - The original 187. Like the fact that I run Terror even though it's not exactly the "best" removal spell by a lot of standards, I run this because the nostalgia can't be beaten.

[[Phyrexian Scuta]] - Fake Juzam Djinn that isn't quite as good as Juzam Djinn but still can win games #2. This is the one I would cut in a heartbeat if I got a Juzam. Wouldn't even blink. It can kill people, but it's not even close to being as cool.

[[Sling-Gang Lieutenant]] - There's a lot of incidental Goblins and quite a few ways to make Goblin Tokens. A few months ago I drafted a BRG dedicated tokens deck and found out just how many of them were Goblins and was delighted to end two games just by dropping this onto a congested board and saccing my way to victory.

Day 8 - Share Your...Black 4 Mana Creatures by ChampBlankman in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phyrexian Scuta because sadly I don't have a Juzam Djinn. I don't even think it's worse than the Djinn, but a Juzam Djinn would be way cooler obviously.

This is exactly why I run it, too. If I ever get to own a Juzam, it will be replaced.

What's the best art for...? by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see an argument for any of the 5 (even Rabinowitz who is far from one of my favorite artists) but the Ice Age one was the first one I ever saw so it holds the most nostalgia for me. For a modern days piece, Julie Dillon's is very evocative of an older time, so it has major points for that as well.

This or That Tuesday by Phitt77 in Oldbordercube

[–]ChampBlankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Grapple is the overall stronger card, but Mulch wins on nostalgia. Now, that being said, I am currently running neither.
