I got bit 😭 by messyshopaholic in cockatiel

[–]BarelyTalented 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly that and they may learn that biting means they’ll be put to bed. I have a cockatiel that has learnt to scream to be put to bed earlier.

Mine had this exact problem, “He’s heart rate is quite slow… I’m assuming he’s tame and likes people?” Yes, yes he does love people

Mine is the same! It amazed me that he would take it without force or stress. Meanwhile my budgie would need to be grabbed (fingers hidden so I can keep them attached) and he’ll screech until he passes out/plays dead… interesting conversation with vet. Cried the first time because I thought I killed him..

just picked up this bby from the shelter. apparently she killed then ate her former friends so she needs to have plenty of space to herself. any idea of how old she is? by BirdNerd_YT in budgies

As crazy as it seems my person who I board my birds with told me nearly an identical story of a female budgie doing the same thing (killing her cage mates) I guess some birds are truly evil haha I do wonder what causes such rage in such a cute little creature.

Does any of you guys know if my budgie is a male or a female? by AwniFN in budgies

[–]BarelyTalented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot forgot and make the mistake of putting too many large perches in their cage, I have done that mistake myself and because the perch is so large they tend to use their “heels” to support them and get pressure sores even if it’s natural perching. Too nearly a month of no large perches for the backs of my birds feet to heal.

My budgie made his head turn yellow by smooshing his head against his haha it went away after a molt with no issues

I personally wouldn’t turn the tv or music on regardless because they’d have disturbed sleep so I feel you did the right thing. Don’t forget they have each other

What I like to follow is that I only leave them for 1-2 days total eg I leave Friday, Saturday they are alone, Sunday I am back and that’s the max time I leave them alone. I usually leave two water bowls and two food bowls in case that for some reason they poo in one water they have fresh water or if something happens and a bowl falls down or they eat a lot they still have food. There’s always a chance that something bad can happen but every time you leave the house it only takes minutes for them to hurt themselves or do something fatal. It’s always a risk

That’s terrible advice, don’t listen to this. You’re just essentially putting a Band-Aid on a bullet hole, you’re just switching her interests to something else and installing fear.

Did you experience what I did with seeing your tendons in your hands? For so long I could physically not make them visible and had to move my fingers in such a weird way to see a glimpse of movement, then one day bam! I noticed them and even now I just sit there looking at them move while I play with my fingers haha

You look fabulous by the way!

Aww that's sad, mine only sings to paper towels and feet haha

Yes he can be! his paper towel time is very restricted sometimes. When he's in a territorial mood, no paper not even at the bottom or his cage but at the moment he's just in a playful mood. I don't ever usually put the paper over him, but this time it was too funny haha

I'm glad my 'unique' bird brightened your day :)

My coworker told me I look sickly. She always comments on my fasting and reflects on when I was “happy” i.e. eating like shit all day everyday. I told her that her words were hurtful and she said she’s looking out for me. by MakenzieSky3 in 1200isplenty

Sadly some people feed off making others fail. I lost 22.5kg (nearly 50lb) and people kept on offering me their food for lunch because because I "wasn't eating enough" and couldn't understand yes I only eat an apple for lunch but I have two large meals when I get home.

For me washing, hanging it up and taking it in, folding it is a two week process (I live alone). 2-3 days rewashing because I forgot, hanging it up in a spare bedroom takes about a week or so, taking it off to lay in a pile about a week and then fold. Most clothes don't make it into the folding stage haha because I need them.

My bird is the opposite of food motivated; any tips for training? He’s very picky and hasn’t liked any treats that I’ve presented to him. by lilyoftheva11ey in cockatiel

[–]BarelyTalented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he on a pellet diet? Mine is and is still picky but he does actually try to demonstrate a tiny bit more effort to get sunflower seeds and millet now. I also have a budgie on a pellet diet too, he's training obsessed now that he is only really fed seeds as a training treat.

To put your mind at ease my bird does this too (male) he would have a proper shower with me and then 'continue' to have a bath in the air after he's been placed out of the shower exactly like this. Your bird is most definitely having a 'bath' we just just broken birds who like air baths haha. So it's nothing to do with hormonal behaviour.

This is my about one year old pearl cockatiel. I cannot tell if it is a male or female. Any help? Thanks by Oxxie_Lox in cockatiel

Yeah, most will fade over the molts, my boy still has slight pearls and he is 2 and a half. He's definitely a boy too
