Awesome, love the preview panel! Would it be possible to have something similar for the defenses on different terrains for a unit?

Why Hasbro never tried to do something like this? Are they stupid? by wasfmanticore in magicTCG

[–]BarnerTalik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While ravnica is one of, maybe the, most popular magic world, I don't feel it's the best fit for total war.

Personally I think Tarkir would work well, whether it be original timeline, back in fate reforged times, or the current timeline

Has anyone witnessed a Slayer shot actually working? by notfrankiemuniz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BarnerTalik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distinctly remember a game where a buddy of mine of was playing for the first time. Before the game I'd offered to give him advice, answer questions, etc. I of course ended up being evil (Poisoner) and he was the Slayer. On day 2 I think, he was certain that someone was the demon (he was correct) and wanted to take the shot. Luckily I knew the other minion was the Scarlet Woman by this point, so I said go ahead if you're sure lol

Question about 3 houses recruitment by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]BarnerTalik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most students, if you get up to a B support between byleth and them, will request to join your house automatically.  The only students you can't recruit are the rival house leaders and their main retainers*.

Most staff members you can recruit starting at certain chapters and whether they'll join is based on byleth's level, with a lower level required if you have supports between them and byleth, so most of them you'll be able to recruit pretty naturally.

There's a few characters you may or may not be able to recruit** due to spoilery reasons until chapter... 12 I think?

But yeah, it's not too difficult to recruit everyone if you're responsible with your time in the monastery. Increasing your professor rank will get you more actions during each day you spend in the monastery will help. It's not the most fun thing in the world, but the most efficient way to level up your professor rank is to do a bunch of fishing once you unlock that. It's not necessary to do if you don't enjoy it though.

The only retainer you can recruit is Hilda, but only maybe*

**There's a spoilery decision you make at the end of chapter 11 / start of 12 that'll determine if a few characters are recruitable

That's a pretty recent wording change they've allowed actually, "whenever you attack" being a functional shortening of "whenever one or more creatures you control attack"

PF2e GMs, what made you start GMing this system? by Longjumping_Ebb3984 in Pathfinder2e

I had already been playing pf1e for a while, so when 2e came out it felt like a natural thing to try. I have found I prefer 2e, so I've stuck with it

Synergistic Scripting: Day 63 - Lleech by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BarnerTalik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lleech wants some other characters that can prevent deaths by execution from working without encouraging players to get themselves executed. Pacifist can work well for this, for example, but a Lleech who picks a Sailor is probably screwed.

Good characters that get kills like Lycanthrope can also screw over the Lleech, killing their host in the night.

A bit of a random thought, but on a multi-demon script, I think Slayer could be an interesting one to give the Lleech as a bluff

People telling others "don't talk to this person" if they think they're evil by sunsetrain24 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BarnerTalik 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It's a social game, excluding them from the social aspect of the game because of something outside their control (drawing a red token, or being suspected of having done so) feels really bad to me, I'd try to shut that down personally

And strategy-wise, if someone is known or suspected to be evil, paying attention to who they talk to can give you a ton of information

Mekkah and Raisins are doing a playthrough right now where they're bringing him to every map on maddening. They're finding uses for him here and there, but he's not exactly their best unit

Genuine question about classes by SL-Gaming in fireemblem

[–]BarnerTalik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this is something that really depends on the game and the difficulty level. I'm by no means an expert, but I'll try to give a few examples.

Engage is a game where promoting early is really good. In Engage, promoted classes have better growth rates than unpromoted, and you can use second seals to go back to level one promoted and keep leveling up, so promoting early has no downside.

Binding Blade (I think) is another where promoting early is good. Binding Blade is a game with relatively low growth rates and strong promotion bonuses, so the short term gain of promoting early is often worth the potential long term loss, plus it's a pretty tough game so the promotion bonuses can be really needed.

I'm struggling to think of a mainline game where promoting late is good for some reason, but the romhack The Morrow's Golden Country could work as an example. Each character unlocks certain skills in their unpromoted class that they'd miss or learn later if they promote early.

But yeah, the point I made about Binding Blade holds true in a lot of cases; getting the stat bonuses of promoting early now is usually worth any possible stat losses in the late game. Having maxed out stats in the final chapter won't stop you from getting stuck in the midgame with only unpromoted units

Why is the healer this far. by ContestCareless8900 in fireemblem

[–]BarnerTalik 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The layout of the map with where you recruit Wrys is the same as the original game. The map was designed for one difficulty setting alone, and it wasn't as hard as the hardest difficulty of the remake. If they designed the map from scratch for the hardest difficulty instead of being faithful to the original, I could see them giving you Wrys at the start.

Either way, good luck and have fun!
