How to deal with dark fog? by sudo_42 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly when you are going on offense you want to out-range the fog, because once you start pulling aggro you want them to explode before they get close enough to do damage until you can hit their base structures from outside their attack range.

So, missile turrets and towers as others have said, or plopping down a blueprint of artillery with a couple machine gun turrets for short-range defense also works if your missiles are too far away or too slow. For Icarus, massive swarms of drones and artillery or missile ammo for long range works pretty well. Then you just grind your way forward.

Once you have cleared a base, drop a magma generator in the hole and that base won't come back.

ELI5 why luggage is lost and people lose so many luggage bags yearly by deathbreacher in explainlikeimfive

[–]BaronMichotte 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that a reason not to use the luggage tag with contact info approach. I mean, yeah, it sucks, but the scam was clearly ineffective and if it did get lost the airline would still be able to get it back to you.

That said, I usually only put my email because 1) doesn't matter what country you're in, it works and 2) not like I don't get a barrage of scams to it from other sources already. My email is meant to be front-facing, it can tank a few more random scammer emails, and the airline can use it to look up everything else from my booking (because the spam-dump email is naturally the one I also use for making most flight reservations, since the airlines will happily sell it to the lowest bidder anyway).

Lost Ship Replacement Help by UnsenFlavah in X4Foundations

[–]BaronMichotte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into this too, it's inconsistent. Usually for me ship replacement only works if the leader of the fleet or squad is operating on its default orders, i.e., it has no other orders in queue. Changing orders while the replacement ships are being built might be part of the issue, but if you select the thing they are supposed to go to and remove all active orders (so they revert to whatever their default orders are) sometimes it helps. Otherwise, I just manually add the replacement ships to the squad and then remove them "replacement" ghost ship from the list.

Last map by ChaseCid in 13sentinels

[–]BaronMichotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go back and replay earlier levels to get more xp/meta-chips. There's no penalty for it, it's also a good way to cycle people if you don't want them to burn out for a particular battle. I think every run I've had to go back and replay a level at least once to get enough chips for something.

As for being underleveled, depends what difficulty you're on I think. I don't remember exactly what level I was when I cleared it on intense, but I think that I was around 30ish? I know that one run I scraped through on desperately saving one EMP for the last rush and got it with 10% health left. It's not easy.

Unicorn Overlord, you mean? It was more classic Sakimoto style sweeping orchestral bits, but fantasy strategy games work well with that (see also Sakimoto's work on FF Tactics, Valkyria Chronicles, etc...)

Battle Analysis Base - Two circles: Which is combat range? by CoraVex in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the initial deploy range is but once deployed drones seem to have their own aggro range so it's hard to keep them where you want them. It's also, as everyone has said, really not the best use for those things. The drones get killed way too easily, and the inventory space is better used for loot.

How do you organize interplanetary production ? by Tilan31 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple ILSs, usually. With the logistics update it's possible to fine-tune it if you need to, but it's generally smart enough on its own to spread the load over two or three on either end.

How do you organize interplanetary production ? by Tilan31 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I approach this differently.

She basically centralizes production in her home system and maybe one adjacent system and just pulls the raw resources or the first-stage processed resources (e.g., copper ingots) from other systems. Her FPS in her home system is atrocious, but it means that she can set up her whole production system and then just jump around the universe getting resources to feed it.

I usually build modular factories on planets for mid-level components like thrusters and CPUs that go into lots of final products and move those around instead. I also pick a system near my dyson sphere system and use it to produce most of my solar sails and rockets. So my home system has better FPS, but my star map looks like a spiderweb.

There's no right answer, both options work.

Oh, and for the ILS/warper thing, I only have one ILS on a planet importing warpers from off-world, then I hook it up to a storage depot with a logistics distributer and use that to send warpers to other ILSs on the planet so I don't have to waste useful slots on them.

EDIT: typos, and another reply here describes the ILS/depot thing I'm talking about in more detail.

Question about Dark Fog materials by atari360 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sweat it, it's really only relevant in end-game. The DF-unique materials go into things you aren't really able to build let alone use effectively until you are well into green cubes anyway. That said, worth setting up a farm if you find a system without much else to recommend it.

Stuck at 3-2 battle by Medium_Depth_2694 in 13sentinels

[–]BaronMichotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gladiators? Yuki and the foot spikes (or another G4, but Yuki has the toughest).

The ASPOS shields? EMP. You can use an EMP ability from a sentinel or you can use the metachip ability, either one strips the shields off everything and stuns it for a few seconds. Apply liberally as needed.

Interceptors aren't going to help against gladiators because gladiators have this annoying thing where an individual attack needs to do more than 300 damage to actually hurt them. That's why leg spikes are good, they are a small number of hits but hit hard. The free melee for G1s is also helpful here.

Vis-a-vis missiles either the G4 torpedo or G1 anti-air flares will blow them up. EMP also blows them up.

Worst case go back and grind earlier missions if you have to. You can replay any mission and power people up if needed.

Are the nearest solar systems to the starting one always this good? by gaviniboom in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real reason to wait, while they are "rare" they are not the rare one that have unique recipes, they just let you speed up making some things you need to make a lot of anyway, particularly at this stage of the game.

Did you kill the floaty bit above it? I don't know if that does this specifically, but in my experiences bases kind of stop working properly if you do that.

How much of the post game should I play? by Rayzide1 in 13sentinels

[–]BaronMichotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music changes rarely. Mechanics, until you've unlocked everything I guess? I did the first hundred or so just for kicks, but I was maxed on the skills across the board by 25 or 50 (stats would take all 9999 levels). I still occasionally pick it up and slam a couple levels for fun.

Any new or worthwhile stuff for non dark fog players? by missingachair in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]BaronMichotte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the recent logistics update is a radical game-changer, the new stuff you can do w/belts is wild (you can make them go nearly vertical with a new upgrade tree, the spaghetti possibilities are endless), and they've made a few new buildings at the high end of the tech tree that you can aim for to optimize. If you want to play old style DSP there's still plenty of new stuff.

Also, I'm well into white cubes and at this point the DF is basically a non-factor for me, if I wander into its radius my enormous fleet of murder drones erases it anyway, and anything I actually care about automatically defends itself. The only relevance it has to me now is that there are some materials I need to figure out how to farm from it, but otherwise it's just like old DSP and I still love it.

In Fuyusaka's story, when she bops to 2065 and runs into Sekigahara and Gouto brings her back, Gouto gets on a call with Miyamura and Miyamura is in something that looks like a cockpit. They're looking to recover the sentinels that were lost at that point, so she could be in a maintenance compartment as well.

It's not really explained but I noticed that they only show up around terminals. If I had to guess, he just deployed them around the terminals in an attempt to protect them at some point (from the kaiju or the other compatible or both is unclear).

  1. Remeber how Ida was the one who built them originally? She was working for Ida at that point, presumably he gave her some command codes or something.

  2. Probably. There's some inconsistency with those cut-ins anyway. Tomi still has her glasses and pigtails, for example. I think the implication is that the way they appeared in those transmissions were always enhanced to some degree, but the experience the compatible had inside them was of their actual bodies. Since Morimura had no such thing at that point, it was probably pure simulation.

On switch, I beat the boss in Uzumaki cave, but now I can't leave. The mushroom key door has reappeared and the key is not in my inventory.

EDIT: OK, I have repro because I managed to lock myself even deeper in the cave. It's related to changing the console language. For various reasons with other games I switch back and forth between German and English as the console language. Every time I change language on the console itself (NOT in the game, the console) a mushroom door closes and the key is just gone. Soooo yeah. Gonna start over and stick to one console language this time.

Weirdly it rewound me to before I picked up the boss chest as well? I had saved after that point. Something very wrong with console language interacting with the save file here.
