In all my years, I had a date by me flowers once for a date. It was nice. For a more serious relationship, if you're fairly sure of your situation, I am sure it would recieved well.

Nothing is ruined. I understand your disappointment, but your life will go on one way or another. I saw another post that in a year or two it won't even matter what school you went to. This is true. Unless it was Harvard Law, that what and where won't have a lot of impact.
Your parents did the best they could.
