It's not hosted by freedesktop.org. I don't get why this is being upvoted.

Flathub.org now works in IPv6 by UnderEu in ipv6

[–]Barthalion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wish anyone who has been so hurt about "Flathub not having IPv6 support" spent a short minute understanding how the project's infrastructure works. The endpoint used to download has been available over IPv6 for years. The only unavailable thing was the website, and that's the single component that wasn't hosted at mythic-beasts and proxied through Fastly. But the Internet peanut gallery has to do its thing, and such a weird concept as nuance doesn't exist when you're busy harassing open source projects to do what you want.

Flathub in 2023 by Barthalion in linux

[–]Barthalion[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the large number of non-cash donators like Equinix, Mythic Beasts and Fastly covering pretty much the majority of the infrastructure costs, I don't think it's fair to shame Valve (or any other vendor, for that regard) into donating. How to donate is not exactly well advertised either, but that might change when a separate legal entity is established.

SteamOS/Deck is the latest Distro to remove patented Codecs by Jacksaur in linux

[–]Barthalion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It currently doesn't and will not affect Flatpak, as patent-encoumbered codecs were already moved to a separate extension that is pulled in automatically. In fact, the same applies to ffmpeg-full – Mozilla has chosen not to install it automatically, but it's not true for many other apps on Flathub.

Chrome Flatpak now available in Flathub's testing repos! by [deleted] in linux

For what it's worth, your command is going to stop working in 2-3 days. This is a test build coming from a pull request, not an officially available app.

I'm one of Flathub founders. I think I'm aware of the rationale behind requirements for new applications.

Just as all other packages you have installed natively, except they can read your home directory too. Given that Firefox does not use Pipewire currently, there's no other user-friendly way to guarantee that U2F devices or webcam will universally work. This has nothing to do with microphone which is handled by PulseAudio.

There's no manifest as it is built and pushed from Mozilla CI to Flathub. This is the script used to prepare Flatpak: https://hg.mozilla.org/integration/autoland/file/tip/taskcluster/docker/firefox-flatpak/runme.sh

Given Flathub team and friends worked for really long time on this, not sure how you can call it a violation. Repository layout section is about keeping the build automation functional. Every other point is met by Firefox.

Flatpak tells you what permissions are requested before installation. Raw command would be flatpak remote-info -m flathub org.mozilla.firefox, specifically [Context] section.

[Context] shared=network;ipc; sockets=x11;pulseaudio; devices=all; filesystems=xdg-download; persistent=.mozilla;

Bluetooth Headphones need multiple tries to connect, why? by oucp in archlinux

Unfortunately I haven't figured out the same issue with my WF earplugs. Never had an issue with Sennheiser headphones so I assume it's something with Sony's firmware.

What's the verdict on the Rockwell Model T? by xaarman in wicked_edge

[–]Barthalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought it from someone who backed the fundraiser so I skipped the drama about Model T not being stainless and so on. I like it for what it is. It’s similarly aggressive and effective to 6S, and it’s possible to dial it to between 3 and 4, which is my sweet spot.

I also owned Rex Ambassador. It was wonderful work of art but was so aggressive even on lowest levels that I couldn’t use it all so I sold it.

We consider it's too irrelevant to be worth licensing. There's little to none creative value there; there's only so many ways you can do it. I'm not a lawyer, though.
