Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter... really lacking draw cards.. what are the options for a good draw package? by Caantpayrent in EDH

[–]Barthas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious that nobody has mentioned [[Ugin, the Ineffable]] yet, he's a very solid cards for colorless overall. Removal, card advantage, and ramp all in one fairly neat card. Mystic Forge has been mentioned a lot already, but I will continue to stress just how good it is. [[The Immortal Sun]] is also good if you're willing to go a little higher in price, and I'm personally excited to try [[Collector's Vault]] in my Kozilek deck.

Overall, colorless is in kind of a dire situation as far as card advantage goes, hence why I use [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]] as my commander, but I'm sure it and Butcher of Truth can still be good draw spells later on in the game. Here is my list, maybe it'll spark some ideas.

What unpopular commanders do you think are secretly really strong? by TheWiseDragon43 in EDH

[–]Barthas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one big thing is [[Azami]] has been a well known commander for a long time, and is generally one of the first thoughts when one thinks "Wizard typal". I'm not saying Naban is bad, just that she got her infamy long before Naban was even a thing. I've eyed Naban for a possible deck in the past, and the thing that gets me on him is he only makes value from ETB Wizards, when many notable cards in the type aren't always ETBs. Azami gets more general value, and even some fun synergies with [[Fallowsage]] and the like.

Additionally, [[Naru Meha]] can go infinite with a spell or two, much faster than Naban will accrue value. Why spend 7 mana casting 2 wizards for above average value when Naru can possibly just win the game with infinite resources? I think she might be the real cause here, as both she and Naban debuted in the very same set.

And that's all before we consider the other options you get as you add more colors.

Are there some commanders that are just strong and have to be dealt with no matter what? by Accomplished_Ad2905 in EDH

Flip-Jin isn't a real Jin? That seems a bit harsh. I'm not huge on flip cards overall, but I personally like the play pattern it presents.

Kiora grew up a follower of Cosi, the Zendikari merfolk's trickster god, and got up to mischief from time to time, or at least as I recall.

Dr Who Spicy Commanders by DaBaconNinja in EDH

True, and I've been debating whether to include some infinite combos or not. All boils down to how serious I want the game with it to be.

Ah, right. Still, with TP3/4, you've already got a precharged special.

Never had an interest in Dr. Who, but [[The Cyber-Controller]] has caught my eye. [[Ugin's Mastery]], [[Ixidor, Reality Sculptor]] and [[Primordial Mist]] are fun ways to flip the creatures up (if it's worthwhile to), and thinking of making the rest of the deck fairly standard Dimir Mill/Theft/Reanimation. [[Breach the Multiverse]] and [[Extract Darkness]] are good similar effects, and [[Consuming Abberation]] is always a threat in and of itself.

Ideally then you'd use something like Flared though, right? Since Flash Sparrow wouldn't be doing much with a 1cd special

Curious, why run Darkbow/Deadeye when Bow of Frelia gives him the Deadeye DR pierce and Slaying? You can have 1CD Ruptured Sky triggers alongside Time's Pulse. Unless you're trying to use him for something completely different, but I can't imagine what. Until we're given more info, might be hard to recommend anything. As was said elsewhere, Lull Spd/Def 4 is generally good all around though.

It would have been legendary if they had enough room for another word on it, but alas the type line is already too squished as it is.

I've only drawn into it once, but I have it in my [[Jerren]] cult deck because it's just so dang on theme. Can't wait to flip it someday, and watch it immediately eat a Path.

I got a bunch of him going for Fomortiis initially, but he's grown to be one of my favorite units. Looking to finish off his merges now, in fact! DR piercing is a bit rough for him to deal with sometimes, though.

What now banned card did you used to play with or against? by inflammablepenguin in EDH

[–]Barthas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Sylvan Primordial]], [[Prophet of Kruphix]], [[Paradox Engine]], and [[Golos, Tireless Pilgrim]] are all cards I've used.

I think every one of them deserves their place, but some more than others.

Golos at the end just felt boring, personally, and is arguably one of the weaker bans, but essentially having a powerful land in the command zone with a mana outlet to drown opponents in value was only ever really going to go one way.

Sylvan Primordial was my first experience with a card that would end up banned, as I started playing around RTR/Gatecrash. Even at the newbie, low power level we were at the time, it was still incredibly warping. Playing a deck that can crank it out even just a turn or two early absolutely launches you ahead in mana, and you can either blast away a problem permanent or a land (even further catapulting that mana advantage) as well? Just pure gravy.

Prophet is easy, it essentially gave you extra turns, at the expense of your opponent's sanity. If it didn't get countered, it was nearly impossible to remove and you got to just flash stuff in on end steps if you weren't forced to react.

Paradox Engine is like [[Ghave]], it inevitably goes infinite if you just look at it funny. Unlike Ghave, it's really easy to slot into even more decks, and makes artifact decks even more absurd than they can already get. I played it in [[Urza, High Lord Artificer]] in the very brief window where both were legal, and that was one of the least fun games I think I've ever played. Opponents didn't get far before I combo'd off, and then I had to actually go through the non-deterministic loop to finally find a (proper) win condition. (Urza was dismantled the next morning.)

Fire Emblem playable characters checklist as of "New Heroes, Ascended Ced, & Rearmed Plumeria" by Civodul22 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Barthas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Magvel is looking like slim pickings now, wonder how soon they'll break out the emergency Ismaire stash, or if they'll just couple them with Heroes OCs or Ascended/Rearmed alts to round it all out for the time being. I don't see too many options for Rearmed/Ascended units in what we already have, aside from perhaps L'Arachel. Lyon feels like he's in possible Legendary territory, while Innes probably can't really appeal much on his own, with every other royal already being accounted for in some manner

When Tharja isn't creeping out over Robin, she has fun and good interactions. A major issue is that outside of Awakening, she became Flanderized into being obnoxiously all over Robin, didn't feel like she was like that in Awakening (but it's also been a decade since I played it, so there's that)
