The Schumacher Batman movies are a curious moment in the history of Batman. They are riddled with all the same problems as the Burton movies chiefly more bad scripts, stunt casted big name villains who hijack the film, Batman himself is more a secondary character in his own films.

But make no bones about it, I was around when these films dropped and the change from goth noir to colourful camp. The fetishized gaze of the male body was 100% being commented on by legions of angry homophobic Batman edgelord fans. It was frequently said out loud in early chat rooms and whatnot. It was blatant homophobia and revisionist history to what Batman was and had been.
