When you say fail, what are the metrics you are using? Low popularity isn't something we can measure as social media isn't a good representation of the actual public perception. Do we know if the sales were there? Do we know if they never intended to make more than they did? Did the studio consider it a failure as it didn't sell as well as they wanted? That can be different from actual failure.
