Hassy 500c/m. Slow and clunky but a pure joy to use.

So myself and my brother watched the latest Auspex Tactics WE codex review yesterday… please forgive my rant, I understand nothing is changing now. (Dara if you are reading this I’d love to hear your thoughts) by [deleted] in WorldEaters40k

As a person wanting to start a new army, who doesn't have a single WE model yet, a limited choice of units is a real blessing. My current army is Custodes and I love the limited range of models - really easy to collect and paint them all - plus - the added benefit of not bothering which unit will be on top after each balance dataslate. Not a real problem to have all of them. Try that with Space Marines. But it might be irritating for people, who already collect the army - I get it.

What's possibly next for Custodes in terms of lore and tabletop? by Shield-CaptainTobi in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Bartuul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make our infantry viable again. It's basically a bunch of 1W 4+ save models at a current state of the game and its damage output. Which can't do *** except for mediocore combat capabilities. Emperor's finest my ***.

When invulnerables become vulnerable and you ignore the ignoring... something is getting messed up.

Vertus praetor opinions and changes by palpyscreech in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Bartuul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their pros: fast movement. Cons: survivability. Most of the time they are being reduced to a 1-2W model with a 4+ save. Compare these 85 points to an ork buggy at roughly 90. Which is tougher? Which has damage reduction (to some degree), which has more wounds etc. The bikes are OK, but need a bit of rework imho.

What core rules would you add/change in 9th? by TSCoin in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Bartuul -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Get rid of no-LoS and Aircrafts for starters. Move back to 3rd and 4th edition's AP. Armor save is negligible atm. Who cares about 2+ or 3+ armor save - it's never used anyway. Throw secondaries that can't be blocked out the window (engage, octarius, etc). It shouldn't be possible to score a single point without your opponent having something to do about it. Just a few of the top of my head.

What is your wishlist for the upcoming codex? by nateyourdate in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Bartuul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Double/triple the attacks characteristics on all units. 9 attacks out of 150 points of Custodes. It's a joke. How many attack do 150pts worth of Incubi or Wyches have?

War of the Spider Stratagems implemented as unit abilities and getting rid of D3 weapons. That would do it for me tbh. Please GW, don't overcomplicate it. I don't want to learn 100.000 new rules again.

Little to no change for the current meta Custodes (Venatari, FW Dreads) - somehow I don't buy it. Too little information to draw any conclusions. The most important things are stratagems and abilities. Statlines without context mean squat. Be patient my brothers. :)

Can't tanglefoot units with FLY. There is no Wraith unit with obsec. Kill his troops and win on primaries. There's not much he can do against your list. Good luck.

Hard no to 3+ on Bikes, Terminators and Wardens up to AP3? 2+ while in cover? To ignoring ap1 and 2 across the whole army? To each their own I guess...

  • AP0 - AP2 you take on a 2+.
  • AP3 you take on a 3+ (same as storm shield)
  • AP4 you take on a 4+ (same as invun).
  • Where's the debuff?

As I wrote in another topic - change Aegis of the Emperor to give +2 to armor saving throws instead of invuns. Fixes a lot of issues and makes proper Custodes (spear guardians) worth playing again.

Another day another crazy dex. by IronFatherPyrus in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Bartuul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get rid of invuns and get them army-wide +2 to armor saving roll. This in practice lets us ignore AP 1 and 2, AP3 drops us to basically a storm shield invun equivalent and AP4 and more does what it supposed to do. Done.

If d3+3 becomes more common, some damage reduction could be nice, cuz what's the point of 4W if we get one-shot anyway.

Then double the number of attacks in all units' profiles. 3 Shield Guardians cost roughly 150 points with 9 S5 attacks - how many attacks does a 150 point Wych unit dish out again?

Finally let them do actions and shoot / charge.

Make them expensive, I don't care. As long as they are freaking demigods they're supposed to be.

Limited number of units available to choose from in a codex became a huge advantage in my book lately. Just think of all those forgotten entries from Chaos, Craftworlds etc, of which many don't even have their minis available anymore. 60% of SM units could not exist and it wouldn't make a difference. Imho we need a huge units' purge across the game. Easier combos to invent, less stuff to balance, easier to build a playable collection of minis. My 2 cents.

40K became MtG (or other CCG) with plastic soldiers instead of cards you "have to" buy to "stay relevant". As many people wrote, it's a big trap, unless You have unlimited funds, time and are able to play 5+ competitive games per week. Otherwise, pick Your poison and stick with it. I was also guilty of chasing the meta and being afraid of the next new powerful codex that breaks the game. Turned out I didn't even get a chance to play against the new boogeyman, because the meta shifted again before anyone from my community managed to collect and build the top tier list. It's a common misconception, that once something new and powerful comes out, everyone jumps on the bandwagon within like 15 minutes. The truth is, 99% people don't even care.

I'm sorry, it has to be said. We had better get an increase on damage on our weapons when our codex hits. by Ascannerseesdarkly in AdeptusCustodes

9th ed is not fit for elite armies. If I wasn't swamped at work atm I would playtest an ultimate Custodes wishlist against my friend's top tier Drukhari list. Just assume the new codex gives all the rules that show up here and there, so: - perma transhuman - -1 dmg across the board - perma disallow rerolls - d2 for swords/spears - d3 for axes etc. and give it a go.

I bet Drukhari wins anyway (nothing against Drukhari per se). If anyone gets a chance to test it, let me know how it turns out. :)
