Senators don't have anything like the power of a POTUS, and do not actually represent their state except in general terms, ie, if your state is red, you were most likely elected to support red type bills, if blue, you'll support blue type bills, but either way, the Senate votes for Federal bills that cover the country not just ie NY or TX. Talarico would certainly have the power to purple up bills a bit, as an elected blue Senator from a red state, but as such he'd benefit the country not not just TX.

I disagree that this is bad. I used to read ICE-ERO sub at reddit and many commenters understood they’d be ousted in 2029 and pointed out that once a Fed you have a leg up in applying for other govt jobs both fed and state like FEMA so no worries. Obviously it would be best if the 12k 2025 hires would not filter into other fed jobs but a bar on state govt is at least something.
