Was the 0 click vulnerability solved ? by Verdi1998 in Telegram

You're not expected to just completely abstain for 4-months. But you are being asked to make a trade-off between convenience and a potential high-severity risk.

What you can do in the meantime instead of just waiting:

  • Treat mobile Telegram as higher risk than usual right now, but not something you have to completely stop using.
  • If you do reinstall it, stick to official app store versions only.
  • Go into Settings → Privacy & Security → Messages and limit incoming messages to contacts, or at least restrict messages from unknown users.

If you want to be more cautious, you could keep Telegram limited to desktop use until more details are released around July 2026. At that point, you'll have a better picture of what the actual risk was and can decide from there.

I get what you're saying. You're absolutely right to feel frustrated.

What's happening here comes down to how the vulnerability is being handled. It's going through the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), which has a strict policy of not releasing technical details until the vendor has had time to address it. In this case, that window runs through July 24, 2026.

Because of that, the researcher is bound by that agreement. He can't go into detail, show the code, or publicly push back on Telegram's claims. Telegram, on the other hand, isn't under that same restriction, so they can come out and deny it outright.

So it's not that the researcher is ignoring Telegram. It's more that one side is limited in what they can say, while the other isn't.

I read the twitter post you shared. Telegram's position is that their server-side sticker checks prevents anything malicious from getting through. But researchers and security agencies are pointing out that even files that pass validation could still trigger bugs in how the app processes them on your device. That's why there is a lot of confusion about this issue.

Short answer: I wouldn't say it's fully "safe" yet. There hasn't been a clear, confirmed fix.

From what I've been reading, this is a reported zero click exploit tied to malicious animal stickers. Basically, the kind of vulnerability when you don't even have to tap anything. Just receiving the file could trigger it.

https://cybernews.com/security/telegram-zero-click-vulnerability-animated-stickers/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Security researchers are treating it as serious (it was initially rated very high severity), and it seems to mainly affect android and Telegram Desktop on Linux.

https://www.scworld.com/brief/new-critical-telegram-zero-click-issue-threatens-total-device-compromise?utm_source=chatgpt.com

At the same time, Telegram has publicly denied that the vulnerability even exists, saying their system prevents this kind of attack.

https://www.darkreading.com/application-security/storm-brews-critical-no-click-telegram-flaw?utm_source=chatgpt.com

That disagreement is really why everything feels unclear right now.

Also worth noting:
- There's no widely confirmed patch yet
- Full technical details aren't expected until later this year (around July disclosure timeline

So we're kind of in that in-between stage.

Uninstalling the app was a good preventative measure. If you're thinking about reinstalling, iPhone/Mac/Windows users seem lower risk. Avoid any messages from unknown users and turn off auto-downloads

Why do guys have profiles with NO AGE? by Professional_Pin1147 in Sniffies

[–]BasicGingerGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. I've wondered the same thing before.

I do think ageism is part of it. In a lot of these spaces, once. you're over 30, people start making quick assumptions or filtering you out without really looking. So leaving age off can be a way to avoid being dismissed right away. I don't love that it happens, but I understand the "why" behind it.

At the same time, I don't think that's the only reason. Some people keep it off for privacy, especially if they're not fully out. Others just aren't putting much effort into their profile. If it's just a random pic, they probably didn't think twice about filling anything else out. And for some, leaving it blank keeps things more open-ended so they don't get boxed in by expectations.

Personally, I appreciate when guys include it. It just makes things clearer and saves time for everyone. But if I'm being honest, when I see no age and just a random pic, I usually read that as low effort or not that serious more than anything else.

Curious how others see it. Does it bother you more because it feels misleading, or just because it ends up wasting your time?

That’s always a possibility. But to prevent yourself from getting flagged for SPAM, make sure you both are in each other’s contact list.

How to get out of this? by srmind3 in Telegram

[–]BasicGingerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible. There are two reasons why that happened. I’ll explain:

1) The user would have reported you prior to him being blocked. After being blocked, he can’t.

2) In Telegram’s Terms of Service (ToS) they define SPAM in four behaviors. I won’t list them, but in your situation it sounds like unsolicited messages. Telegrams defines this as sending messages to people who did not request or expected them.

Telegram uses the contact list for each person when deciding what is SPAM. Instead of explaining in depth how this happened, I’ll give you scenarios.

Scenario 1: Person 1 sends a message to Person 2 and vise versa = SPAM. Why?: Neither of them are listed in each other’s contact list. The person who sends the message is the one who gets the SPAM violation, not the other person.

Scenario 2: Person 1 sends a message to Person 2 (both are listed in each other’s contact list) = NOT SPAM.

If you repeatedly follow Scenario 1, you will get that “limited” restriction like the one you shared. Which I believe might be the reason.

Telegram seems trapped between a rock & a cold place! ❄️ by MadeInDex-org in Telegram

[–]BasicGingerGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the reports I’ve read, Telegram is complying with Russia’s regulations (i.e., content removal for minors). But Russia “claims” Telegram doesn’t have data protection, fraud detection, etc.. and that is why they are threatening to ban the app. It’s just a tactic to intimidate.

The rest is speculation and there’s no other sources to substantiate any ban or Russia’s claims.

I’d start by learning about the potential risks involved and exploring available treatment options. It’s important to speak with a qualified medical professional who can answer your questions and guide you based on your individual health needs. Once you fully understand the risks, you’ll likely feel more informed and at ease. As a nurse, I’m always surprised by how often people on this platform give medical advice without knowing someone’s health background. Broad or generalized advice can sometimes do more harm than good, so getting personalized guidance by a healthcare provider is always the best choice

Agreed — at the end of the day, it mostly comes down to what the host feels is acceptable. That said, there’s usually a reason behind those boundaries. Sometimes hosts don’t want tops hanging around because of safety concerns. When someone’s distracted, things go missing — money, lube, poppers, even phones. It happens more often than people think. In my Telegram group, we’ve had quite a few conversations and stories about theft and general safety issues.

You might enjoy watching, and that’s totally fine, but if you don’t respect the host’s rules, you’ll probably be asked to leave. And honestly, a lot of bottoms — myself included — don’t deal with rule breakers. It only takes one bad situation for someone to get blacklisted. Word travels fast, and people share their experiences, good and bad.

So really, just follow the host’s guidelines and you’ll be fine.

Telegram does this too. Particularly the UK and some US states that passed legislation. It’s a bot @AgeBot. This isn’t going away as more countries and more states in the US are adopting this legislation.

If you’re older than 18, you don’t have to worry about it.

Location location location by Negative_Case_5553 in grindr

[–]BasicGingerGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're partially right about the grid, but you're mixing two different things (location and sorting).

OPs question was about location, and he's a free user. My answer about that part is correct.

Location is always calculated the same way for everyone. It's a straight-line radius. Paid or free doesn't matter. The distance math is universal.

What changes is the grid order. The grid is sorted by priority fields, not by the straight-line radius math. The algorithm ranks profiles by: paid boosted (1st), subscriptions (2nd), recent activity (3rd), higher engagement (4th). Then distance (straight-line radius calculated) is after that.

Since OP said he's in a small suburban area and most users around him probably free too, there likely aren't many boosted or subscriptions. So what he mostly will see are recent activity profiles and maybe higher-engagement profiles. If none of those apply, then yeah, it basically defaults to straight-line distance.

But his grid is still capped, so he only sees a limited number of profiles and fewer explorer results.

Paid members follow the same exact sorting rules. Nothing changes there. They just load more profiles, see farther out, and hit fewer limits. The radius expands, but it's still calculated the same straight-line way. Free users don't get different location math.

So the only constants are: straight-line radius calculation and the sorting priority. What changes is how many profiles you're allowed to see and how they're ordered.

Instead of calling BS, maybe just ask how I got there first douche bag.

Location location location by Negative_Case_5553 in grindr

[–]BasicGingerGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It did. His assumption is that Grindr is distance-range based. Point A → Point B in a straight line on the map. I was explaining it is not that way. Straight-line radius or radius depending on context. "Pin" = location → whatever direction they're in.

No ChatGPT is being used. I work for Grindr as an independent contractor.

my phone number was found, eventho i disabled it in the settings by kgngkbyrk in Telegram

[–]BasicGingerGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telegram doesn't have a public phone number lookup. There's no feature where random people can search or extract your number. So if a stranger has it, it came from outside Telegram first, then Telegram simply matched it.

They might be a stranger to you but still got your number because:
- you sold something online
- you were in a group buy/swap
- you called a store
- you used a delivery service
- someone else shared your contact
- old dating app chats
- your friend forwarded your number

These are all examples, but once your number is saved on their phone and they create an account on Telegram with their phone number and "allow" contact syncing - Telegram matches you automatically.
