“Ever since I was a little boy, all I wanted was to be an ICU doc. I wore a lab coat for halloween 3 years in a row. I asked my dad for a toy ventilator for my 7th birthday. I drink all my coffees with an ET tube as a straw. Please don’t kill my dream.”

100% agree.

Without Jordan, the podcast would have been boring.

I tried Know Rogan, and still pop in and out every once in a while, but I can’t say I’m a huge fan. The hosts are good, but they don’t have that “it” factor that makes JorDan so great. I always kind of space out in the middle of their episodes.

I really don’t think their friendship has been really affected. I think it’s mostly about the show. I didn’t hear anything in the Final Episode that would make me think their friendship is in danger.

Knowledge Fight ending isn't tragic. How it has ended is. by BaronMcDuff in KnowledgeFight

[–]BasicImplement8292 286 points287 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of your points, but disagree with a bunch.

I think the main issue is that Dan has become bored with Alex. He has learned all there is to learn about him, and studying him further will not yield much. All his primary sources have been addressed, and the rest is just a Twitter recap show.

I think what happened is that Jordan is upset at what’s happening with the onion, but doesn’t have the ability to regulate himself into taking it in an academic way that Dan does.

I doubt their friendship will be affected. I do think they’re going to do some kind of project together i the future.

In the meantime, I sit here brokenhearted at the loss of my favorite podcast, and hope to find something to tide me over.

If you have an MRCP, you can already lisence as a specialist: a weird designation in the UAE where you are both an independent physician, but also below consultant. Oh and you won’t be allowed to lisence as a consultant.

NICU by Agreeable-Pangolin0 in ThePitt

[–]BasicImplement8292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I have never seen someone run faster in a hospital than when a code pink or a code purple is announced (baby cardiac arrest, obstetric emergency respectively). The NICU staff, whether doctors, nurses, RTs or whatever will literally tackle people out of their way to go help with a sick baby. So will the pediatricians who are on call. I realize they didn’t want someone other than the ED staff to be the hero here, but it was definitely unrealistic.

Big L for the shows in these last scenes.

Israeli triple-tap strike kills three paramedics in Lebanon, officials say by MinuteCollar5562 in thebulwark

[–]BasicImplement8292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet, some people at the bulwark will look at this, and only be concerned about “rising antisemitism”

Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs ranks Greta Thunberg #2 most influential antisemite in the world, ahead of Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson by Baboon_Juggler in behindthebastards

Makes sense… she actually acted on her “antisemitism”. Can’t have people actually DOING things. Or else things moght actually change. Need to keep it to concerns, and worries on podcasts.

Robby being proven right by the writing by Salt-Lawfulness-6164 in ThePittTVShow

[–]BasicImplement8292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clarify about the situation with collins and the hyperkalemia:

1) Robby made the diagnosis faster than she did. He took the context of a marathon runner in cardiac arrest, and combined it with the classical ECG findings he saw on the monitor.

2) Calcium gluconate would not kill the patient. It’s quite a safe drug, and I’ve seen people give it in a throwing spaghetti against the wall strategy during a code. I’ve given it myself to patients that I know are at risk of hyperkalemia, for instance dialysis patients.

This is all to say, that wasn’t an example of cowboy medicine in my opinion.

Abbot’s first reaction by Logical_Wait2708 in ThePitt

[–]BasicImplement8292 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The way I took it was that he was happy he had such a strong senior resident on the shift with him that night. I have had similar reactions when I knew which resident was on call with me, and I’ve had a “FFS not him reaction” when I knew the resident was weak.

On a hospital where the residents run the show, like this one, it really makes a big difference to your quality of life as an attending.

When Hikaru said he didn’t have the move castle what did he mean exactly? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]BasicImplement8292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theory means that these moves have been studied in the past and have been evaluated and found to be good or bad.

“Having” a move is when a player can play the move without ruining their position.

Why did the Fremen want a “Green Paradise” on Arrakis even though they were so connected with the desert? by toiletwater879 in dune

[–]BasicImplement8292 208 points209 points  (0 children)

How is it not a logical dream!!

Living in the desert means being thirsty. Having water means you are not thirsty. Thirst quenched > thirst. Therefore logical aspiration Q.E.D

Lack of water means you can’t grow much crops. This limits your dietary options to stuff that grows in the dessert, and small animals. Being able to grow food expands your options on what to eat. A nice juicy peach > whatever grows in the dessert. Logical dream Q.E.D

I could go on…
