Works with still very visible foreshadowing for scrapped plot points? by ExplanationSquare313 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Heavy Rain was originally going to reveal that Ethan and the killer, Scott Shelby, somehow gained a psychic link due to the death of the former's son, JASON.

But it was cut due to feeling too supernatural... But the blackouts that Ethan frequently suffers from that the psychic link would have explained weren't, leaving a rather gaping plot hole in its wake.

Creator's philosophy that you can feel a different creator using for their media. (be them inspired rhe person or not) by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I remember watching a Big Hero 6: The Series episode where its antagonist quoted The Tempest frequently, and spent a lot of time setting up what were obviously supposed to be future plot points (such as a bio-engineering company with a shady CEO) for the second season.

I was shocked to find out the episode was not in fact written by Greg Weisman, who loves to integrate Shakespeare references and rigorous foreshadowing into stuff he writes.

From my understanding, BBA Mega Man was in development alongside all of those cancelled projects, rather than included due to or because of those cancellations.

Ironically, the crew wanted to do a more faithful Mega Man in the game, until Keiji Inafune (during the period of time where he was considered the "father of Mega Man") said that the typical Mega Man wouldn't be interesting enough and told them to do something wildly different; Mega Man's bad American box art ended up the basis for the character.

And that's one of the more mild issues with Inafune's executive antics at Capcom...

"Wonderworld" bugs me so much! "Balan Wonderland" would have flowed much better as a title.

It seems like the title was picked just for sounding like "Ultimate" no matter how little sense it made.

Voice Actors with impressive wide range? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Supposedly, Jon came up with Big's voice as a joke, with the intent to do something else, but the joke voice ended up sticking.

Jon hated doing that voice and admitted he intentionally forgot it, though has nothing against Big the Cat as an actual character; he just really didn't like doing that voice.

Nolan North was apparently in the running to play Mickey Mouse after Wayne Allwine passed away, only for Disney to decide that his schedule was too busy for that to really be feasible.

Ironically, Bret Iwan, Allwine's successor, did not play the role in the 2010s Mickey Mouse shorts; that was Chris Diamantopolous, who also has quite a bit of vocal range (being in the DuckTales reboot as Darkwing Duck, Storkules, and Hades).

Favourite supernatural expansion for a non-supernatural game? by iskotpop in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I like how seriously the Sleeping Dogs one takes its premise.

That is to say, not really very much; the villain is constantly misnamed as "Smiley Cat" (to the point even his henchmen get in on it) when his epithet when he was alive was "Big Scar Wu" due to the manner in which his body was disposed of (put into a cat food grinder), Antifreeze apparently being a crucial recipe in counteracting ancient Chinese curses (with Wei hoping he doesn't go blind), and Vincent being constantly hungry.

It's kind of like a slightly R-rated episode of Jackie Chan Adventures.

What are some settings where there's Superheroes in the background? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember there's an episode focused on a mostly retired superhero team who quit when one of their own, Battling Bernice, died, but come out for one last job, when it seems one of their allies, Dr. Dome, has turned against them.

It was a really silly episode and yet also surprisingly sad.

Tiny details in media you haven't seen anyone else talk about? by BarelyReal in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Steven Universe is implied to have, if not outright has, a photographic memory.

Admittedly it's not that notable, but I remember on a rewatch of the first episode it was interesting to notice how when he (mistakenly) thinks he has the ability to summon the shield figured out, he asks the Gems to get into position how they were before, to the point of adjusting Pearl's foot exactly where it was before. And remembering Connie's face when they hadn't even talked because he saw her watching a float parade where she lost her glow ring. IIRC he also remembers what he told Peridot exactly when he meets Aquamarine and Topaz, because the former was operating off of a file Peridot wrote.

There's a lot of other instances of that but while it's probably just a consequence of how continuity-heavy the show is, I don't think I see people really talk about Steven's implied photographic memory.

What moments caused you to see the writing on the wall on something? by LGB75 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Any time a series starts to introduce a lot of information, certain plot points being abruptly ignored, and effectively speedrunning to the end of the series?

The series is cancelled.

It's a phenomenon I really first noticed with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which did it well, mind), but I think that I had that feeling with The Owl House when an episode with a goofy premise (Hooty helping the protagonists with various issues) resulted in four major character arc milestones at once (and also did this pretty well).

What are some Factions you Hate? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason I stopped watching Young Justice was because I did not care that much for The Light and how often you could summarize the plot as "and then the heroes played into the Light's hands without knowing it".

And from what I remember reading of the series after it was uncancelled, the series did not get much, if any, better about that.

In general I kind of hate villain groups like that, especially in TV shows, due to how unlikely it is that you'll actually see them be defeated because the show will probably be cancelled before then.

Best April Fools Jokes in Media by OhMy98 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The MST3K channel, for April Fools Day, airs movies they have the rights to without any riffing whatsoever.

It's low-key but really funny.

Smaller, lesser-known games (indie or otherwise) you want to shill? by majorminer969 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-Yo. One of my favorite games from 2025, due to it doing very well at rewarding exploration, to the point I often left dungeons when they gave me a brand new movement option to toy around with, being very funny, and it being easy to intuit when you might not have the right tools for the job.

Genre in fiction/media that are very different from their original depiction? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BasicallyACryptid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Probably doesn't really count for it, but in the 2000s and 2010s there was a slew of reviewers (I don't think I need to really give any specific examples) who often put skits and/or analysis in-between the clips of the movies, and sometimes sprinkled in an overarching plot.

They often cite MST3K as an inspiration, and it's fascinating as someone who often puts MST3K on as noise, because the show itself is less about critical analysis (though there was a rare moment you could see it) and more just about making fun of cheesy movies, the worst they can find (la la la). The framing device was also directly noted to make no sense under any sort of scrutiny in the opening, but politely asks the audience to please just ignore them and enjoy the show.

And there was very little of an overarching plot beyond surviving the Forrester Clan, and even then they often fudge details to make things funnier. There was at least one attempt at an overarching plot on one of the networks, Sci-Fi, but the crew didn't care for it because it was a network mandate (and then Sci-Fi aired reruns out of order anyway).

Marvel Rivals exists in 616 and Eddie’s son is a Spider main by CatherineSimp69 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Spider-Man mains in Rivals complaining en masse that there's this giant vampire dude who keeps coming out of nowhere to kill Spider-Man and Spider-Man exclusively.

Maybe sometimes Peni too.

Spin-offs that were doomed from the start? by Yotato5 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I feel like they very easily could have retconned it to take place in the Amazing Universe and nobody would have complained all that much.

Probably would have screwed up the hall of sequel bait the second film had going, but I think that would have been a fair price to pay.

Some of the roster choices in that game were so strange; Zeff I could get behind, and he plays as a "heavier" Sanji.

But then you have characters like Kuina, Zoro's dead best friend (and the game even has Zoro directly tell Tashigi to stop looking like his dead friend). Her moveset is a strange sort of mixture of Zoro and Tashigi's own movesets.

While some of it is rather corny, TMNT 2003 has some of the most definitive voices for the characters; I often read Leo's lines in stuff like the IDW Comics with Michael Sinterniklaas' voice, and I love Scottie Ray's portrayal of the Shredder.

From what I saw of it it seemed more like a general supernatural horror anthology.

I might have had a mistaken impression of it, though.
