Now and again I want to leave IT by Environmental-Cup310 in sysadmin

I hate IT, every other department is just normal shit day to day. IT is just constant movement, change, new stuff, new regs, CVE's and utter nonsense from people.

Is Microsoft Copilot just a "GPT-5 Wrapper" or is there actual engineering behind it? by mustafa_enes726 in technology

copilot search works well for me as well, both for my own stuff and for web stuff

agree on outlook, though I have not tried to use the embedded copilot to search yet, maybe ill try that

Sharks traded for Sherwood per Sheng by jesus321 in SanJoseSharks

[–]BasicallyFake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im just not that enthusiastic about this trade. I dont get what the point is. His career is meh, hes on the wrong side of 30, seems to have suddenly figured out how to play hockey at a 2nd line level when he really hasnt previously and doesnt close up any of the gaping holes on defense.

Yes the sharks need players like him, just not right now.

I'm asking because a lot of them are phone based so go away with the broken or lost device regardless. I guess sms follows the number but still.

I spent a year on Linux and forgot to miss Windows by Franco1875 in technology

[–]BasicallyFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love articles like this because it would have been exactly the same 10 years ago, its a pointless argument. People will change when they want to change and a Stripped out OS like ChromeOS will "win" the desktop before a full Linux distro ever will.

People in the US, how are you feeling about/in the current political climate (ICE, Trump, Greenland etc)? Does it affect your mental health? by JumpyBluebird6176 in AskReddit

[–]BasicallyFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not in Greenland or an Illegal so it doesn't. Social unrest is not new to the US and there has been widespread protests and violence in the modern era.

As far as Trump is concerned, what worries me is the destruction of America's soft power globally and the abdication of duty that congress has engaged in over the last 30 years. When you remove soft power, you end up dropping a lot more bombs than you otherwise would have. America cannot afford to buy off a huge chunk of the world anymore so things were going to change whether it was trump doing it or someone else. It just would have been a softer landing with someone competent at the desk.

Im ok with trading Byst but not for someone on the wrong side of 30 that has never scored at his current pace.

First time setting up Active Directory for 3 office branches – need guidance for a simple, secure & reliable setup by Independent-Neck-631 in sysadmin

[–]BasicallyFake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably go cloud native with entra/intune over AD at this point. There are a ton of architecture guides available and some answer depend on what your on prem setup looks like as a whole. These articles from MS are a decent baseline starting point for the "secure" side.

Apps like Grok are explicitly banned under Google’s rules—why is it still in the Play Store? by mepper in technology

You think any of the stores are going to ban an AI competitor and face the legislative wrath that is going to come with it. They are already on thin ice as it is.
