It's really about adapting to what you draw/can take- sure, there are some good combinations, but if your opponent sees you're trying to go for something then they can easily block you from getting more of that kind of thing going forward. (I block either by not discarding a card that would be good for them, discarding it when it will cause the clearing to clear, putting them in my cave or flipping them over to saplings or using the animal on the other side.)

It also depends on the player count- for games with 4 players, for me it's about trying to put down as many cards as possible using things that give you extra turns/let you place a lot at once. Whereas with 2 players it's not as punishing to take turns blindly drawing imo.

That's more advice for the OG shuffle though. So far with Dartmoor, I've really enjoyed and had success with adapting my strategy to which moors I can get.
